The current economic situation and technological developments in terms of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and Industry 5.0 (I5.0) force enterprises to integrate new technologies for more efficient and higher-quality products. Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are the technologies that make machines capable of making human-like decisions. In the long run, AI and ML can add a layer (functionality) to make IoT devices more interactive and user-friendly. These technologies are driven by data and ML uses different types of data for making decisions. Our research focuses on testing a cobot-based quality control (CBQC) system that uses smart fixture and machine vision (MV) to determine the cables inside products with similar designs, but different functionality. The products are IoT modules for small electric vehicles used for interface, connectivity, and GPS monitoring. Previous research describes the methodology of reconfiguration of existing cobot cells for quality control purposes. In this paper, we discuss the testing of the CBQC system, together with creating a pattern database, training the ML model, and adding a predictive model to avoid defects in product cable sequence. Preliminary testing is carried out in the laboratory environment which leads to production testing in SME manufacturing. Results, developments, and future work will be presented at the end of the paper.

However, the end users may not have the necessary sophistication to apply these technologies effectively on their own. Combining these technologies to provide intelligent interfaces may be beneficial to the non‐expert user. Discusses a conceptual knowledge‐based simulation system and illustrates its applicability using a hypothetical manufacturing example. The example focuses on interfacing knowledge from an expert with a simulation model to make scheduling decisions in a manufacturing environement. The knowledge system is constructed using the M.1 expert system package and the simulation is performed using SLAM II.

This system can be represented from the system point of view (internal architecture) and from the user's point of view (external architecture). The internal architecture includes the kernel, production and engineering data bases and production planning expert as well as the generalized supporting means and methods for solving a wide range of tasks. Due to the existence of the external architecture, the system can be adapted to different applications. To analyze different problem domains CAD, CAM, CAPP, MRP, etc. which need to be integrated in order to realize CIM, a unified framework of the whole system is considered.

The problem is how to match together technological capabilities of machine tools (machining centres) with the need to manufacture a product; and how to increase the efficiency of process planning procedures. Injection molds are the products with many different features, with high quality requirements, and variable geometrical parameters. The problem is sophisticated because most of the products are unique and do not repeat. In order to be able to respond quickly changeable situations where sometimes more than 4 different programs are needed on a daily basis, manufacturing systems will have to become more autonomous. For this purpose, it is necessary to take advantages of the possibilities of modern production programs by linking them with know-how of engineers. Manufacturing operations management (MOM) and machine learning are the tools used for developing knowledge-based manufacturing solutions in the company. Framework has been developed to gather data in the company and develop the rules based on data models and information analysis. The designed solutions for feature-based machining (FBM) give high quality technological solutions and increase the efficiency of machining process by computer numerical control (CNC) programming. Product manufacturing information (PMI) model is in development together with integration of the machine learning system.

One robot can be used to perform several different tasks, but it also raises the question of whether the production needs to be reorganized so that these multiple tasks are directed to the robot, or it can be solved differently where the robot moves between different tasks. In this paper different concepts will be discussed and each of its disadvantages and advantages will be highlighted. Paper also includes survey among Estonian manufacturing companies to find out which tasks are robotized and which tasks are desired to give over to robots in future. Paper also include short description about recently opened Industry 4.0 test hub where mobile robot applications are being tested and paper results will be also tested in this test hub. In general, this paper focus on solution how to use robot arm most efficient way if there is not enough job for stationary robot solution.

The elaborated system concept supports the strategic planning of technology transfer, it also could be used as a basis for the industrial enterprises in elaborating cooperation networks and developing towards extended enterprises. Description and evaluation of innovation capacity through human resources development is a novel solution taken into consideration in the building of the model. Results at this phase are used to develop the technological and human resources database test version. The workshop productivity increasingly depends on skills and knowledge of whole workshop team. Different equipment and competencies are needed depending on complexity of production. The humans' impact on productivity and the methods for enhancing the productivity and efficiency of work in the machinery workshop environment are described in this paper. The data covering 75 Estonian metalworking and machinery companies has been analyzed. A novel expert tool is introduced, where during the evaluation guess values are assigned onto machinery, products, and staff members of the workshop, reflecting existing and needed levels of competence and machinery, thus helping further process planning.

In order to being able to satisfy the demand for high-quality products in an efficient manner, it is essential to use modern technologies based on AI. These areas, which have great developments are expert systems and machine learning. These have the new challenges to manage the manufacturing in different application areas. There are different possibilities and different approaches for solving multi criteria based engineering tasks, influencing directly to the performance in a workplace. How to combine and use them to improve and manage the performance of the production process in the workplace is a main objective of the current article. The integration of the AI models with FBM templates and libraries can also give a great advantage to standardize the way of decision making in a certain product family (like injection moulds). In the article, the models from both categories considered with tooling questions have been examined. This can help improve manufacturing consistency and reduce the tool inventory by setting shop tool standards for similar operations.

This study aims to build a connectivity and system intelligent layer on top of a co-bot integrated Computer Numerical Control (CNC) based manufacturing cell. The connectivity layer is used to bypass all the data collected from machines to the upper intelligent layer and vice versa. When raw data arrives in the intelligent layer, it will be converted to information and again to knowledge for reflection to be sent back to the cell. Machine-to-Machine Communication and Digital Twin process for optimization are used for data conversions. This study is a downscale example of the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) for further development of the existing robot cells.
