Citrate stabilized zinc oxide QDs are useful in drug and gene surface loading. Response surface quadratic models are well reported to study the influence of independent parameters on dependent parameters. The objective of the present study was thus to carry out evaluation of citrate stabilized zinc oxide QDs by employing a statistical experimental design. From the results it was concluded that the particle size, polydispersity index and zeta potential data does not fit into the response surface quadratic design model. A comparison of the prepared citrate stabilized zinc oxide quantum dots was done with respect to particle size, polydispersity index and zeta potential. Though a response surface statistical modeling was not possible with the selected range of independent factors in the study, the results could be of use in choosing constraints for independent ...

Methods: The effect of non-volatile solvent and excipient ratio on flow and consolidation properties of powder blend for liquisolid compacts was studied. Tween 20, microcrystalline cellulose and colloidal silicon dioxide were selected as non-volatile solvent, carrier and coating material respectively. A central composite statistical design with 2 factors, 5 levels, and 13 runs was selected for the study. Quantity of Tween 20 and excipient ratio were selected as independent factors and an angle of repose, Carr’s index and Hausner ratio were selected as responses indicative of flow and consolidation properties. Results: From the statistical analysis of the data obtained for an angle of repose it was found that the quadratic model was not significant. The response surface quadratic models obtained for Carr’s index and Hausner ratio wer...

Rotational and oscillation experiments are most important methods for rheological profiling of polymers. The objective of the present study was to unveil the rheological profile of Carbopol 940 hydrogel, at a concentration of 1%w/w, by subjecting to flow, frequency sweep, creep recovery and thixotropy measurements. From the flow curve measurements it was observed that shear rate has influence on viscosity and shear stress. Carbopol hydrogel behaved as a viscoplastic or yield stress fluid. Higher values for loss modulus than storage modulus from frequency sweep experiments indicated that elastic component is less is prevailing in the hydrogel than the elastic component. Complex viscosity was found to decrease on increasing frequency and thus a pseudoplastic behaviour of hydrogel was confirmed. From the creep recovery plot it was inferred that the hydrogel sample behaves as viscous material at the applied stress. The h...

M... more During the emergence of a new drug it is very important to ensure its systemic bioavailability. Majority of the drugs in the developmental pipelines confronts with the problem of poor solubility; which will result in reduced dissolution rate there by hampering its bioavailability. Here comes the need of liquisolid technique which is a novel and promising approach to overcome these consequences. This technique utilizes the powder solution technology which is based upon the dissolution of the insoluble drug in the nonvolatile solvent and admixture of drug loaded solutions with appropriate carrier and coating materials to convert into acceptably flowing and compressible powders. The liquisolid technology can also be used both for the enhancement and the retardation of drug release by suitably altering the adjuvants. This aricle highlights the relevancy, formulation and designing of the liquisolid systems.

This study is intended to prepare Glipizide microcrystals using different polymers and to study the effect of these polymer microcrystals on particle size, solubility and dissolution. The results of the present study showed that mean particle size and dissolution is highest for microcrystals prepared with Tween 80 whereas solubility was highest for microcrystals prepared with PVA. Further research work is necessary to clarify the conflicting results obtained with our study.
