Las rocas areniscas son uno de los materiales de construccion mas importantes en la Sabana de Bog... more Las rocas areniscas son uno de los materiales de construccion mas importantes en la Sabana de Bogota. Su uso como agregado petreo, como fuente de silice para la fabricacion de vidrio y como roca natural utilizada para el revestimiento de fachadas interiores y exteriores en construcciones de la ciudad de Bogota ha sido constante desde comienzos del Siglo XX. La utilizacion de las areniscas del Grupo Guadalupe en extraccion en diversas canteras de la Sabana de Bogota como fuente de materiales de construccion, cobra actualmente una gran importancia considerando el avance de proyectos de construccion de areas empresariales, vias y nuevos proyectos de vivienda en ciudades como Zipaquira, Chia, Cajica y Tocancipa. Dimension stone present deterioration process caused by air pollution and some industrial subtanc... more Dimension stone present deterioration process caused by air pollution and some industrial subtances used for application and maintenance. Loss of brilliance, alterations of original color, changes in the porosity and absortion of original color, changes in the ornamental rocks. The alterability tests amd technological characterization, carried out on base of a systematic sampling in the exploration and mining activities, permit the anticipate knowledge of the rock behaviors against environmental conditions, predicting problems that may affect the potential use and trade possibilities of some types of rocks such dimension stones. This article shows the results of the physical, mechanical and mineralogical characterization of ... more This article shows the results of the physical, mechanical and mineralogical characterization of the travertine, extracted in the San Antonio quarry, Villa de Leyva, used for more than fifty years, for architectural purposes, use in foundations, columns and other structural elements, among others. The material is evaluated through the application of NBR and UNE-EN standards for the characterization of ornamental rocks. The characteristics of mineralogical composition were evaluated by means of petrographic microscope observations and the properties of apparent density, apparent open porosity, apparent water absorption, permeability, capillary water absorption and compression resistance. The previous tests were made in order to determine, in a preliminary way, the characteristics that define its use as an ornamental rock and its correct implementation on site. El concreto es una mezcla compuesta de materiales naturales y artificiales, que depende de las pr... more El concreto es una mezcla compuesta de materiales naturales y artificiales, que depende de las propiedades fisicas y quimicas de los elementos tales como el cemento, agua y agregados petreos. La trabajabilidad y resistencia del concreto viene dada directamente por las proporciones obtenidas en los disenos de mezclas, las cuales varian de acuerdo a las propiedades fisicas de sus agregados. Un diseno adecuado de mezcla de concreto bajo cualquiera de las metodologias tecnicas, garantiza que los elementos estructurales a base de este material, alcancen las resistencias esperadas bajo la demanda de cargas de la estructura. De ahi su importancia en el diseno estructural. Introduction: This article is a product of the research “The influence of stone aggregates of the... more Introduction: This article is a product of the research “The influence of stone aggregates of the Rodeb distribution center on the mechanical properties of the concrete used for the construction of the free trade zone of Tocancipa”, developed at the University Santo Tomas and carried out during 2017. Methodology: The use of crushed stone aggregates without quality standards, those that guarantee the resistance of commercial concrete, is a problem in the country; with the understanding that the physical properties of stone aggregates affect the physical properties of fresh concrete and hardening strength. In this study, crushed stone aggregates of a “Rodeb” collection center in Tocancipa, used for the construction of its Free Trade Zone and of technically supported aggregate types in the capital city, will be physically characterized to measure the mechanical variation in concrete of 21 and 28 MPa. Natural stone has been an important element in Colombian construction since the hispanic period, ... more Natural stone has been an important element in Colombian construction since the hispanic period, especially in Bogotá city capital from Colombia. Sandstone and limestone rocks are ornamental and structural elements on heritage buildings and new constructions, and their use is important to revitalization of urban spaces for the enjoyment of the population. This paper shows the results of some technological characterization tests of two rock types widely used in construction, commonly known as Piedra Muñeca or Piedra Bogotana and Marmol Royal Bronce, used in historical buildings as well as modern ones. Petrophysical and mechanical properties of these rocks identified in a preliminary way were: Petrographic analysis, physical properties (bulk density, bulk porosity and water absorption), compressive strength, flexural strength, weathering resistance and impact resistance, as shown in the Brazilian technical standard ABNT NBR15845. The obtained results allows to determine, in an early way, that the two varieties (yellow and pink) of the Piedra bogotana stone can be used as a structural element (walls, columns, beams and foundations) and also as a dimension stone for buildings, floors and squares. It´s recommended the use of yellow variety specially on interior spaces. Marmol Royal Bronce can be used in finishes and also in any type of facing, floor and as a structural element in highly traffic streets.
