Growing evidence suggests that intrinsic functional connectivity (i.e. highly structured patterns... more Growing evidence suggests that intrinsic functional connectivity (i.e. highly structured patterns of communication between brain regions during wakeful rest) may encode cognitive ability. However, the generalizability of these findings is limited by between-study differences in statistical methodology and cognitive domains evaluated. To address this barrier, we evaluated resting-state neural representations of multiple cognitive domains within a relatively large normative adult sample. Forty-four participants (mean(sd) age=31(10) years; 18 male and 26 female) completed a resting-state functional MRI scan and neuropsychological assessments spanning motor, visuospatial, language, learning, memory, attention, working memory, and executive function performance. Robust linear regression related cognitive performance to resting-state connectivity among 200 a priori determined functional regions of interest (ROIs). Dysnomia is associated with temporal lobe epilepsy and may include a deficit in recalling the nam... more Dysnomia is associated with temporal lobe epilepsy and may include a deficit in recalling the names of familiar people. The deficit can worsen following surgery to relieve refractory seizures. The following is a case report comparing implicit (errorless learning) and explicit (rote rehearsal) approaches to retraining face-name associations in a 52-year-old woman who was status post-amygdalo-hippocampectomy for refractory complex partial seizures. Although both approaches initially improved performance above baseline, only errorless learning resulted in stable gains during a 10-min delay and at 1-week follow-up. Initial improvements in naming with rote rehearsal were not maintained even during the 10-min delay. In patients with severe memory impairment and dysnomia, errorless learning may offer a viable rehabilitation strategy for improving naming performance.

The lack of consistency has limited students' and trainees' ability to accurately assess and compare the intensity of neuropsychology-specific training provided by programs. To address these issues and produce greater 'truth in advertising' across programs, CNS, with SCN's Education Advisory Committee (EAC), ADECN, AITCN, and APPCN constructed a specialty-specific taxonomy, namely, the Taxonomy for Education and Training in Clinical Neuropsychology. The taxonomy provides consensus in the description of training offered by doctoral, internship, and postdoctoral programs, as well as at the post-licensure stage. Although the CNS approved the taxonomy in February 2015, many programs have not adopted its language. To describe empirically the risky sexual behavior of an at-risk sample of adolescent girls, to as... more To describe empirically the risky sexual behavior of an at-risk sample of adolescent girls, to assess psychosocial correlates of risky behavior, and to examine the utility of applying a risk and protective model to predicting teens' risky sexual behavior. Participants included 158 African American girls, ages 12 to 19, who were receiving medical care in an adolescent primary care clinic. Teens completed measures of depression, conduct problems, substance use, peer norms, social support, HIV knowledge, sexual self-efficacy, and sexual behavior. Teens in this sample reported high rates of risky sexual behaviors, including early sexual debuts and frequent unprotected sexual encounters with multiple partners. African American girls who reported high rates of substance use and who reported that their peers engaged in risky behaviors also reported engaging in high rates of risky sexual behaviors.
