The survey shows that the usage of MS-techniques in Greek companies is relatively high compared to other European countries. However, the usage of more advanced techniques is very low in Greek firms and the application of MStechniques is concentrated on a few traditional techniques. The reason for the low degree of applicability of more advanced techniques seems to be the general lack of understanding for the importance of these techniques.

Sixty-three patients with burst fractures at the T11 to L2 vertebral level and associated neurological deficit were evaluated by plain roentgenograms, CT scan and a quantitative neurological examination. The parameters used were percent canal compromise, location of the retropulsed middle column fragment, kyphosis, type of treatment, and neurological recovery. The follow-up varied from 24 to 84 months (mean 44 months). Treatment was conservative in 15 patients and surgical in 48 patients. Posterolateral decompression was carried out in 26 patients. The severity of the initial paralysis did not correlate with the initial fracture pattern except perhaps for Frankel A cases. Neurological recovery did correlate with the initial kyphosis but not with the amount of canal compromise or the location of the middle column fragment. Neurological recovery did not correlate wi...

Some recent empirical studies of the foreign trade of various countries are first presented and the approaches that have been pursued are described as a preliminary to the development of our own theoretical framework. Foreign trade elasticities are then estimated to test various hypotheses in the theory of international trade and, subsequently, to be used in the formulation of economic policy. Some applications of the empirical findings to the trade balance of Greece are attempted. In general the trade balance of Greece is found to be sensitive to both relative price changes and the growth rates of Greece and its trading partners. In the course of the empirical work a number of methodological pOints of importance in applied econometrics arise. In particular we are concerned with the empirical specification of dynamic models and the result...

Today, the participation percentage of manufacturing in GDP has been reduced to 5.4% with 168,000 jobs or 4.5% of total employment.

Even when the international economy experienced a recession in the 1970s on account of the oil crisis, the Greek economy continued to grow. In the 1980s an imprudent fiscal policy mix (involving higher pensions, higher salaries to civil servants, early retirements, overcrowding the civil service and loss-making state-owned enterprises trough new hires, etc.) produced large deficits which, in turn, lead to increased borrowing as the economy's growth rate slowed down. The rest of the story is pretty much known. As the country's creditworthiness declined it became harder to obtain the funds needed and Greece turned to its lenders of last resort (IMF, EU and ECD), referred to as the troika. Harsh steps were taken, which involved wage and pension cuts, which, in turn, adversely affected consumption, making the recession inevitable. It is a problem with a straightforward solution: Increase exports and investments. In this paper we demonstrate the beneficial impact of these two variables, exports and investments, on the economy, and present alternative scenarios regarding the evolution of these factors and their impact on the GDP.

It also compares these developments to the overall European scene. Results show more improvement in training and performance management and less in employee communications. From examination of survey results, it is obvious that Greece follows the EU trends towards an improved, more strategic role of HRM. However, statistical analysis of data from the comparative survey across European countries indicates a slower pace in improvements and some differences, which Greek companies will have to overcome. In this effort, training and development appears to be the most critical factor.

To evaluate the impact of nails disorders on quality of life (QoL). 1063 patients with nail disorders completed an anonymous nail-specific QoL questionnaire consisting of 24 and 16 questions, respectively, for fingernails and toenails with five possible responses to each question. A score of 1-5 was given to each response and the final score was adjusted on a percentile scale. The subjects were classified in groups according to nail disorders. Statistical analysis was carried out using T-test to compare the means between two groups and ANOVA analysis of variance to compare the impact of quality of life on the different types of nail disorders. Comparison between groups showed a statistically significant higher impact for trauma, onychomycosis, other infections, structure abnormalities, psoriasis, other inflammatory diseases and paronychia and a lower impact for chromonychias and tumours. QoL was statistically significantly more affected in patients having multiple nails involved, women, and in people aged 60-79 years. There was no statistically significant difference on the QoL impact between patients having only fingernails or only toenails involved. Even though published literature tends to focus on the impact of nail psoriasis and onychomycosis on QoL, other nail disorders cause similar frustration to patients. A possible explanation for this is that appearance of the nail has a more significant impact on QoL than the severity of the disorder.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of acne vulgaris and its severity on Quality of Life of young adolescents in Greece. METHODS: We conducted a questionnaire based survey among 1560 adolescent between the ages of 11 and 19 years old and 1531 of these were completed. Adolescents with acne filled all the questions including the Children Dermatology Life Quality Index. Adolescents without acne filled the questions about age, family history of acne, stress and smoking. Data were analyzed with Pearson Chi Square test. RESULTS: Acne prevalence was 51.2% affecting both sexes equally. Self reported mild acne was present in 71.2% and moderate-severe acne in 28.8% of the study population. The mean age of the study population was 15.77y. The median score of Children Dermatology Life Quality Index was 4.02. The impact of acne on quality of life is associated with the severity of the a...
