In this paper, square-wave drive, which is employed for permanent magnet brushless (BLDC) motors, is employed for the SynRM, in order to economically reduce the cost of rotor position sensor. It is revealed that the torque density and efficiency are slightly sacrificed, whereas torque ripple is deteriorated, proving the SynRM with square-wave drive still promising for the cost-sensitive application if torque ripple is not considered as a critical issue. To further investigate the additional pulsating torque under square-wave drive, mathematical model based on a-b-c phase inductance and d-q axis inductance are established, together with the time-stepping FE calculated currents. It is concluded that the harmonics in the currents tend to cause non-sinusoidal variation of the magnetic reluctance, which can be represented as additional inductance harmonics. The harmonics of the current and inductance interact with each other, thus undesirable torque ripple components are produced.

Kordeckiego 20, 85-225 Bydgoszcz 2 Staff Scientist, Engine Systems, 1 Hamilton Road, M/S B3-1-6C, Associate Fellow AIAA, Corresponding Author The paper deals with a new architecture of wind turbine generators. The proposed wind turbine consists of a number of integrated smaller individual generators. The individual generators can be arranged in a rectangular matrix or in a circle. The paper discusses sizing procedure for this type of generators, electromagnetic calculations including the finite element method (FEM) simulation, performance characteristics and advantages of this type of wind generator. As an example, a permanent magnet brushless generator has been considered.

On the basis of the distribution of the 2-D electromagnetic field, the equivalent impedance of the rotor has been derived. The edge effect and nonlinear magnetic permeability of solid steel have been included. The presented analytical method has been verified with laboratory test results. A 300 kW, 60 000-rpm, three-phase solid-rotor induction motor for the next generation air compressor has been investigated. The accuracy of analytical approach is acceptable and can be recommended for rapid design of solid-rotor induction motors.

W artykule przedstawiono jednofazowy filtr aktywny z zasobnikiem energii dwukierunkowym przekształtnikiem DC/DC, dedykowanym do kompensacji udarów mocy czynnej generowanych przez nieliniowe obciążenia o pracy przerywanej.

The paper focuses on replacement of ball lead screw mechanisms with linear electric motors, linear motor driven positioning stages, linear motor driven gantries, machining centers, machining of large objects and industrial lasers. The best linear electric motors for application to machining processes are permanent magnet (PM) linear synchronous motors (LSMs), especially those without PMs in the reaction tail, e.g., high thrust density linear (HDL) LSMs and PM flux switching (FS) LSMs.
