Many academic advisors lack the training and tools they need to meet their students' constantly evolving needs. This paper is designed to illustrate the benefit of incorporating coaching techniques into academic advising sessions. The field of coaching can help improve the advisor / advisee relationship enabling a collaboration that is both successful and rewarding. Through research in coaching and academic advising as well as interviews with higher education academic advisors across the United States, this study demonstrates a simple to use model advisors can use to enhance their interactions with advisees.

The current study analyses data on patterns of service delivery, recovery of practices, and protective measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic by bariatric teams. Materials and Methods The current study is a subset analysis of the GENEVA study which was an international cohort study between 01/05/2020 and 31/10/2020. Data were specifically analysed regarding the timing of BMS suspension, patterns of service recovery, and precautionary measures deployed. Results A total of 527 surgeons from 439 hospitals in 64 countries submitted data regarding their practices and handling of the pandemic. Smaller hospitals (with less than 200 beds) were able to restart BMS programmes more rapidly (time to BMS restart 60.8 ± 38.9 days) than larger institutions (over 2000 beds) (81.3 ± 30.5 days) (p = 0.032). There was a significant difference in the time int...

It also addresses how TNGOs can promote policies that uphold migrants' human rights in this new age of migration. The first section presents an analysis of the scope of international migration and recent changes in global migration patterns.

The selectin family of adhesion molecules and chemokines mediate the leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction, resulting in neutrophil sequestration and activation. This work studies whether a small molecule inhibitor of selectins can ameliorate the effect of hemorrhage on chemokine expression and neutrophil infiltration in the lung. We also aimed to assess the regulatory effect of this small molecule inhibitor of selectins in the lung functional and structural response of animals subjected to hemorrhagic shock. Study Design: We subjected 36 Sprague-Dawley rats to uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock for a period of 150 minutes. Three groups of animals were included (n21؍ per group)-the sham, control, and treated groups, with the latter receiving a small molecule selectin inhibitor (TBC-1269) at 25mg/kg, which was given after tail artery transection. The following measurements were evaluated: fluid requirements during resuscitation for 150 minutes; PO 2 /FIO 2 ratio, lung water, and lung histology, lung myeloperoxidase and lung macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) mRNA and cytokine induced neutrophil chemoattractant mRNA at 6 hours. Statistical analysis included Student's t-test and ANOVA. Results: There was significant improvement in lung function as expressed by PO 2 /FIO 2 ratio and wet to dry lung water ratio in the treated group. There were no significant changes in fluid requirements between the three groups. Neutrophil infiltration, measured by tissue myeloperoxidase, was significantly (p<0.05) decreased in the lungs of the treated animals. Lung histology was considerably improved in the treated group. The small molecule selectin inhibitor had a profound downregulating effect on macrophage inflammatory protein-2 and cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant as expressed in lung tissue. Conclusions: Our study confirms the key role that selectins play in the pathogenesis of hemorrhagic shock. The multiple selectin blockade allowed for better function and structure of the lung. The mechanism of protection may be secondary to the downregulation of chemokine expression and neutrophil infiltration. (

The effects of anti-adhesion molecule antibodies on the blockade of leukocyte-endothelial interac... more The effects of anti-adhesion molecule antibodies on the blockade of leukocyte-endothelial interactions have the potential of decreasing survival through possibly increased infection vulnerability. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a small-molecule selectin inhibitor (TBC-1269) on both liver response and survival to a nonlethal lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge after hemorrhagic shock. Ninety-six Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to a model of uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock. Six groups of animals were included in this study (n = 16 per group): sham/saline, sham/LPS, shock/saline, shock/LPS, shock/TBC1269, and shock/TBC-1269/LPS. Experimental design consisted of the development of hemorrhagick shock (3 mL/100 g) in a 15-min period, tail amputation and drug administration at 30 min, and subsequent resuscitation to maintain mean arterial pressure at 70mm Hg. A septic challenge was produced with 0.1 mg/kg of LPS (Escherichia coli type 78H4086; Sigma Chemical, St. Louis, MO) given intravenously via penile vein at 20 h. Liver injury tests (alanine aminotransferase, ALT), liver myeloperoxidase, liver histology, and 21-day survival were evaluated. Statistical analysis included the Bartlett test for equality of variance, a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and overall followed by pairwise log-rank test for survival. Significant improvements in liver function and histology were observed in animals treated with TBC-1269 with or without a nonlethal septic challenge. Neutrophil infiltration, as evidenced by liver myeloperoxidase (MPO) was significantly decreased in animals treated with TBC-1269 alone and those having LPS administration after TBC-1269 treatment. We conclude that TBC-1269, multisectin blocker, was effective in reducing liver damage even with the addition of a second inflammatory insult as the nonlethal LPS challenge used in this study.

Methods: In this randomized, prospective, single-blind study, intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured after a 1-month washout period and pachymetry was performed before randomizing patients to latanoprost 50 µg/timolol 5 mg/1 mL (L/T), bimatoprost 300 µg/timolol 5 mg/1 mL (B/T), or travoprost 40 µg/timolol 5 mg/1 mL (T/T). IOP was measured monthly for 6 months and then at 12 months by an investigator blinded to the study drug. Adverse reactions were recorded. Results: 128 cases were included in the study. The 3 treatment groups had similar baseline characteristics and comparable IOP. All 3 combinations decreased IOP by at least 6 mmHg and IOP remained below 21 mmHg throughout the study.
