Univariate and panel regression analyses were used. This was made by highlighting the factors affecting Liquidity Risk Exposure (LRE) in relation to a crosscountry sample that utilises both accounting and economic data. 204 banks were investigated in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, as well as SouthEastern Asian (SEA) countries during 2005-2012. Results revealed that IB recorded the highest average Liquidity Risk (LR) exposure compared to CB. There are significant differences between IB and CB banks in terms of LR factors. It is found that 92% of LR exposures are instigated by financial crises, banks' gearing, gross domestic product (GDP), off-balance sheet items, ...

This paper uses well-determined macroeconomic and microeconomic indicators that have been applied by different researches, several bank regulators, and deposit insurers, to estimate its relation with the level of nonperforming loans. The results found that there significant relationships between the selected indicators and the l...

We express special and sincere appreciation to Dr. Beth E. Hazen (USA) for her great efforts in correcting the English in the manuscripts. In addition to the associate editors and the editorial managers, the reviewers listed below provided constructive critical reviews of at least one manuscript during the year 2013. Their names are published here in grateful appreciation for their significant contribution to the journal as well as to the development of plant pathology.

Little details bridge the gap between expected and real future scenarios. They are crucial for the management of natural and man-made disasters and can be considered enablers of success. The existing literature focuses extensively on major aspects of disaster management, including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery, while paying less attention to other details that can contribute positively to the overall success of the disaster and emergency management process. This study aims at: (1) identifying little details that make a positive difference in the event of a disaster; (2) investigating the value of these details to overall disaster and emergency management; and (3) introducing a value-based approach to disaster and emergency management.

Organizations seek to develop and maintain positive images in the minds of publics. The image of an organization can be threatened by crises, and this impacts the trust it has with its employees and customers. Trust declines when employees feel they are not informed properly, especially in times of crises when it is imperative to respond to the threat and where promptness is necessary. Communications help build or restore some level of trust. The case is also applicable on a social level where governments and the public should communicate effectively especially during crises. Two main issues will be discussed in this paper: First, the influence of culture on the practice of Crisis Communications (CC); and second, the factors that underpin the role of culture in CC. These issues are significant since they represent the characteristics and influence of the Arab culture in particular. This article contribute...

A survey strategy was adopted and data were collected using semi-structured interviews with refugee families. One hundred and twenty families were interviewed.FindingsThe study identified a number of vulnerabilities; including mainly unavailability of educational facilities; quality of the available education; social challenges and psychological needs. The findings revealed that there was a lack of comprehensive and strategic frameworks for mitigating refugee educational crises.Practical implicationsThe lack of adequate and quality education for refugees in host countries is likely to increase illiter...

Design/methodology/approach A parametric LP model was used in this research. Primary and secondary data were collected. Findings Results revealed that the demand elasticity is high in Spring and Summer than in Fall and Winter, meaning that during Spring and Summer farmers are willing to forgo larger amounts of water than in other months. This is because of areas planted during Spring seasons are much less than those of Autumn and Winter. Practical implications The Jordan Valley suffers from water scarcity risk, and consequently the area to be planted is not fully utilized, leading to lower cropping intensities. Responsible au...

The aim was to link Food Security to other health issues, so as to draw the attention of Association of Aid to the status of these vulnerable people. To achieve this goal, a survey was conducted to measure food security status based on USDA scale by asking the individual refugees 10 questions from which the answers showed the level of their food security. After exploring food security status of Syrian refugees in Jordan, the second objective was to examine differences in food security based on refugees' demographical details such as areas of location, age and education.
