A method for developing maneuver paths that accounts for maneuver boundary conditions is presented along with a method for determining the orthogonal distance (position error) from the vehicle to the path. The control law is constructed as a unit-norm quaternion with position and rate components with a Lyapunov proof to demonstrate stability. The performance of the quaternion path following strategy in tracking various maneuvers appropriate for obstacle avoidance is demonstrated using the Aviones flight simulation environment.

The visualizer makes possible the identification of both intra and inter-protocol behaviour. This tool has become a critical resource in the development of our multi-protocol monitoring system; allowing the verification of the monitoring system, identification of new modes of behaviour and the easy visualization of potentially overwhelming quantities of information 1 .

Selenium has antioxidant properties as part of the glutathione peroxidase system and may have protective effects on memory abilities. Objectives: To investigate the relationship of groundwater selenium exposure to neuropsychological status. Method: Analysis of data from 484 participants (148 men and 336 women) of Project FRONTIER, a community-based participatory research study of the epidemiology of health issues of rural-dwelling adults and elders. Results: Estimated selenium exposure (current and long-term) was specifically related to memory functioning without relation to other neurocognitive domains. The significant, positive link between selenium and memory (Immediate and Delayed) scores held regardless of APOE4 status as well as when the sample was restricted to only those without cognitive dysfunction. Current selenium was also associated with significantly reduced risk of cognitive decline prospectively. Conclusions: Higher selenium levels were associated with better memory functioning as well as reduced risk of cognitive decline among this community-based sample. Given the antioxidant properties of selenium, and the well-documented link between oxidative stress and the development of cognitive dysfunction and Alzheimer's disease, additional research is necessary to determine the utility of groundwater selenium monitoring as a potential population-wide prevention effort against Alzheimer's disease.

In this paper we report on results from an experimental programme which aims to quantify the performance that can be achieved with a real distributed application running over a range of different network technologies, including Ethernet, ATM, FDDI, and a 100 Mb/s packet-switched LAN. In particular we analyse the contribution of each of the various application and network components to the overall performance experienced by applications. This information will facilitate planning and management of new networks, and permit the identification of "hidden costs" which prevent currently deployed applications from fully exploiting high bandwidth networks.

Although the high-speed memory and digital control electronics have long been integrated underneath the micromirror array, high-voltage reset waveforms had been provided separately and synchronized with the DMD chip to actuate the micromirrors. In this work, using drain-extended transistors, the high-voltage driver electronics are successfully integrated on DMDs to generate local reset waveforms having voltage variations up to 30 V at a fast slew rate. At fast charging/discharging rates, the transistor reliability requirements are still satisfied and the driver electronics maintain low average current consumption.

Data for the study were taken from the Iowa Case Management Project (ICMP). The ICMP evaluated case management using a randomized research design. Residential clients who agreed to participate were randomly assigned to one of four case management conditions. The first three conditions were variations of the Iowa Case Management (ICM) model: (a) Inside Case Management, (b) Outside Case Management, and (c) Telecommunications. Case management clients in these three conditions were eligible for 12 months of case management. The fourth condition, the control condition, received no additional case management through ICMP. The study results show that the use of case management decreased the use of mental health services while increasing clients' use of inpatient care, access to physician, and the emergency room. It was expected that case manageme...

We sought to determine whether another construct might link academic buoyancy and student's achievement. Based on prior theoretical and empirical work, we examined a sense of control as one possible linking mechanism. The study analysed data from 2,971 students attending 21 Australian high schools. We conducted a cross-lagged panel design as a first means of disentangling the relative salience of academic buoyancy, control, and achievement (Phase 1). Based upon these results, we proceeded with follow-up analyses of an ordered process model linking the constructs over time (Phase 2). Findings showed that buoyancy and achievement were associated with control over time, but not with one another (Phase 1). In addition, control appeared to play a role in how buoyancy influenced achievement and that a cyclical process may operate among th...

This spatial data warehouse infrastructure makes extensive use of geographic information system (GIS) technologies to integrate information from a variety of database structures and formats. GIS products and tools have been developed to portray and analyze these data in useful combinations focused on practitioner needs. In June 1999 the Governmental Accounting Standards Board issued Statement 34 requiring governments to have a systematic approach to managing their assets. As a result, transportation agencies have placed an increased emphasis on developing mechanisms to integrate information from disparate management information systems and legacy databases. IDOT has used GIS to develop a spatial data warehouse to enable integration. A valuable characteristic of the department's information systems infrastructure is the embedding of the underlying link-node structure into roadway inventory databases to enable the direct linkage of data through various system identifiers, including differing milepost referencing and project numbering schemes. This direct linkage enables the complex integration of asset management-related data files across the enterprise and provides access to historical asset information. Changes to route referencing systems are readily accommodated, without loss of integrative capabilities. Outputs include a variety of userdeveloped analyses and output products with accessibility through networks, intranets, and the Internet.

The investigation addresses a critical need to determine the organizational impact and cost-effectiveness of this enter-prisewide information technology to achieve the greatest benefit. IDOT conducted an enterprise wide effort to portray GIS capabilities and to identify candidate GIS projects. Fourteen major GIS projects were selected on the basis of management priority, ease of implementation, and user commitment. A comprehensive cost-benefit analysis was developed over fiscal years 1995 through 2004. Costs were reasonably estimated from historical costs of the GIS investigation effort and future costs of GIS technical support and user area resources. The greatest portions of costs, over the 10-year time frame, were for personnel (67 percent) and consultant services (19 percent). For the more difficult benefits d...

Moreover, and at the evidential level, the fact that international as well as domestic factors affected West German planning meant that extensive archival research would need to be done in several countries and in multiple languages. Furthermore, the interpretation of the fruits of that research had to account for a number of issues, including, among others, the FRG’s domestic political scene, its place in the Cold War balance of power, and the evolving sense of historical identity among its citizenry. On this last subject, the 1972 Games represented, in the thinking of many FRG planners, a potential mechanism for moving the country beyond the dark shadow of its recent past. Sadly, the Black September murder of eleven Israeli Olympians destroyed any hope of reaching this objective. In the humble opinion of this reviewer, The 1972 Munich Olympics and the Making of Modern Germany is one of the more impressive scholarly studies on sport published in recent years. It is well researched and well argued on a topic of significant historical import. And it should help to further establish sport as a subject of legitimate scholarly inquiry.

A pronounced projectile charge state dependence of this ratio is observed for heavy near-symmetric collision systems. Present Address: Oak Ridge National Laboratory, P.O. One of the specific design guidelines developed as part of the biophysical operational principles recommended that 50% of all high priority dugong habitats should be incorporated in the network of no-take areas. The high priority dugong habitat incorporated in no-take protection increased from 1396 to 3476 km 2 (or 16.9e42.0% of all identified sites). Although this increase in protection fell short of the recommended 50%, overall the level of protection afforded by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Zoning Plan 2003 increased for all the locations identified.

Academic buoyancy and psychological risk (academic anxiety, failure avoidance, uncertain control, emotional instability, neuroticism) measures were administered to 2971 students (11–19 years) from 21 Australian high schools at two time waves across a one-year interval. Analyses confirmed a reciprocal effects model in which psychological risk impacts academic buoyancy and academic buoyancy impacts psychological risk. The findings hold applied and conceptual implications for practitioners and researchers seeking to help students deal more effectively with adversity in school life.
