As I write this a shooting has accused on a college campus which reiterates the purpose of the ne... more As I write this a shooting has accused on a college campus which reiterates the purpose of the need of the research of this topic of carrying a concealed handgun on college campuses. In an Oregon community college a 26 year old male has killed 9 people and wounded 9 others (Joshi 2015). This brings about the subject of whether a student or teacher who had been armed with a concealed handgun could have stopped this mad man and saved lives or could they have been able to pull the trigger to stop him in his acts of violence Could this happen at your college or university the question is no longer a question of " if " it could happen, but " when " will it happen at your university A study is focused on the number of states that are reviewing expanding handguns on college campuses. A study was done of 287 faculties for support of gun legislation on campuses and the results showed a substantial majority opposed such legislation, however support was significantly determined by political parties and gun ownership which made the study very basis (Bennett, Kraft 2012). This study shows how important it is for faculty to support the legislation on concealed handgun studies. They however, need to be more open minded and the survey needs to be broader based. They looked at the idea of gun violence on American colleges and universities. With the rise in gun violence the question has rekindled the debate surrounding concealed weapons on campuses. Data was collected during the 2008,2009 semesters at two university's and over 2100 students, staff, and administrators participated in the research and the result were that over 70% opposed the option of carrying concealed handguns on campus.
