ABSTRACT The L-shell x-ray intensity ratios I(Lβ)/I(Lα) and I(Lγ)/I(Lα) for elements with 73 ⩾ Z ... more ABSTRACT The L-shell x-ray intensity ratios I(Lβ)/I(Lα) and I(Lγ)/I(Lα) for elements with 73 ⩾ Z ⩽ 83 have been measured at photon incident energies of 17.8, 25.8 and 46.9 keV. The emitted x-rays were measured with a Si(Li) detector system. The results for Re, Pt and Tl are being reported for the first time. A comparison is made of the experimental results with the calculated values obtained by using the theoretical x-ray emission rates, subshell ionisation cross sections, subshell fluorescence yields and Coster-Kronig transition probabilities. The experimental results are in reasonable agreement with the theoretical values.

ABSTRACT The effective capacitance between the origin and any other lattice site, in an infinite ... more ABSTRACT The effective capacitance between the origin and any other lattice site, in an infinite 3D simple cubic network consisting of identical capacitors, is evaluated in terms of the Lattice Green’s Function (LGF) of the network. The perfect case is reviewed shortly, while the perturbed case (a capacitor is removed) is studied in two cases. Numerical values of the effective capacitance are presented and the asymptotic behavior is studied for the both cases.

The density of states (DOS), phase shift and scattering cross section are expressed in terms of complete elliptic integrals of the first kink.

ABSTRACT The ion-beam mixing of Cu thin films evaporated on silicon is investigated by measuring ... more ABSTRACT The ion-beam mixing of Cu thin films evaporated on silicon is investigated by measuring continuously the electrical resistivity of the samples during Kr ion irradiation. Rutherford backscattering spectra with 2.0 MeV He ions are measured after beam irradiation. The resistivity results exhibit a tendency toward a saturation process and allow the determination of the critical dose corresponding to the total mixing condition. The dependence of the normalized variation of the conductivity of intermixed atoms on the ion dose is deduced and compared with a semiempirical formula to explain the observed mixing kinetics. The above results are confirmed with the RBS measurements.

ABSTRACT The effect of isoelectric transition metals (TM) Nb and Ta on the magnetism of the V(001... more ABSTRACT The effect of isoelectric transition metals (TM) Nb and Ta on the magnetism of the V(001) surface is investigated from first principles using Density functional theory (DFT), with the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). Ferromagnetic (FM) moments of 2.5 μB and 2.2 μB are obtained for the relaxed surface V monolayer (ML) in the V/Nb(001) and the V/Ta(001) systems respectively, at T = 0 K. The values are almost twice of those obtained with Mo and W of group VIB and can be attributed to the comparatively smaller bandwidths of the substrates Nb and Ta. Small induced magnetic moments are present on the Nb and Ta interfacial layers, which are coupled anti-ferromagnetically with the V ML.
