The sample comprised 125 elementary school students from Novi Sad, Serbia (aged 13-14). Difficulties to understand small and large numbers related to concepts of mole and atoms were identified. In the control group of students, the traditional teaching approach was applied; experimental group multimedia was used in teaching. The obtained results indicate that students had difficulties in learning the above-mentioned concept of the mole. When multimedia material was used, it contributed to the higher academic achievement of students in overcoming issues related to atomic sizes and masses, constant, definition of a mole, and visualization of the given amount of samples of different sub...

The aim of the research was to examine the effect of the blended learning approach on students' motivation for learning physics. The sample included 128 upper-secondary school students from Novi Sad (Serbia) with an average age of 16. Of these, 64 students made up the experimental group and 64 students made up the control group. In the control group, the students did not actively participate in simulated experiments, and in the experimental group learning was realized through the application of the blended learning approach (BLA), since the students had an active role in conducting simulations themselves. The obtained results showed that BLA contributes to the overall motivation for learning physics, as well as self-efficacy and physics learning value. Also, an increase in motivation was observed in two dimensions of motivation among female students in the e...

This can be regarded as the symbolic dawn of Chemistry Education as a scientific discipline in this region. After the official breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, research that had started in the 1980s, and which was focused on the development of tools for assessing the quality and flexibility of student knowledge, was continued through the 1990s. This research included the application of computers to chemistry teaching, as well as the development of appropriate chemistry learning programmes. In the following period, research focused on the analysis of chemical teaching programmes in the Republic of Serbia, with a special emphasis on the possibility of including eco-chemical content in curricula. Accordingly, potentially efficient models were suggested. The most recent research has been focused on the investigation of the effectivene...

Specific population declines are linked to habitat modification, or environmental pollutants may directly affect animal species. Monitoring of PCB concentration in water, sediment and aquatic and terrestrial organisms, especially amphibians, is of a primary interest for determination of the level of pollution of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem because of high bioconcentration factors of PCBs and their bioaccumulation in flora and fauna. Determination of PCBs in amphibians can also provide data on exposure of humans to these toxic contaminants, being the top of the food web. Frogs may not be beautiful, but they can serve as very fine and very subtle pollution indicators, as it was shown in our previous investigations on pollution of Bor area (industrial town in Serbia,...

The main environmental effects of the bombardments in Kragujevac, ZASTAVA car factory (Paint Shop, Power Plant, Waste Storage) were damaged transformers which contained Pyralene oil. As a consequence of explosions, fires and PCB combustions, very high levels of PCDD/F were also found in soil samples from that area (100, 000 ng I-TEQ/kg). Very high levels of PCBs and PCDD/Fs were also found in samples taken around the transformers of the power plant (70-74 g/kg of PCBs and 10, 200 ng I-TEQ/kg of PCDD/Fs). In 2000, UNEP/UNOPS Clean-up Project YUG 00-R71 was performed for clean-up action of serious environmental damage of hotspots in Former Yugoslavia. The aim of this work was to identify the potentially polluted zone in the vicinity of the destroyed transformers in Kragujevac non-urban area. In December 2002, the sampling...

Тhe paper explores the connection between the preferred learning styles of students with academic achievement аnd gender differences. The findings indicate that assimilating learning style most preferred by students. Furthermore, the study shows that there are significant differences in learning styles of students in terms of gender differences of students. The results suggest that within the school context in Serbia such teaching strategies are applied that encourage the development of the assimilating stylelectures through which a number of information systematized in a logical structure are transferred to students. Also, most of the students who have excellent school achievements actually prefer the assimilating learning style. This finding can be explained by the assumption that students develop their own learning styles in accordance with teachers' expectations.

Scientific research of the environmental state of the marine system should take special care of the ecological cycle life of the sea organisms (fish, mussels etc.). As a consequence of the increasing urbanization, which occurred in Boka Kotorska bay and led to a flush of a big amount of wastes, the ecological balance of the bay is disturbed. Since mussels proved to be very sensitive bio-indicators of environment, the levels of contamination were determined in mussels’ tissues from Boka Kotorska bay. Samples of Mytilus galloprovincialis species were collected in May 2003 from three different locations. The paper presented the levels of DDT, DDE and PCBs, which show the presence of the residues of PCB and OCC in body of mussels as a result of contamination sea environmental body and the processes of bioaccumulation and biomagnification.

The authors introduce the terms "ideal knowledge structure", "desired knowledge structure" and "real knowledge structure" as milestones in indicating levels of acquired knowledge. The role of concept mapping in the diagnostics of knowledge was tested in the secondary-school teaching of biochemistry. The pedagogical experiment was performed with secondary-school students form Novi Sad (Serbia). Students were tested in two biochemical topics (nucleic acids and protein synthesis) and concept maps were created for the results of each student after fi nal and retention tests. A comparison of the desired knowledge structure and the real knowledge structure revealed the possible application of concept maps: in establishing the level of acquired knowledge; in illustrating students' efforts and ability to learn biochemical content; and as indicators of the level of the retention of knowledge and of the effi ciency of the applied teaching method. Through concept maps, teachers can evaluate their own performance and gain important feedback on their own work.

Thus, the aim of this study is to review the impact of different dimensions of motivation on achievement in chemistry. The sample consisted of 236 grammar school pupils attending the third grade. The results showed that there is a significant positive correlation between grades in chemistry and pupil's motivation. The identified fact that individuals with high perceived self-efficiency in learning have higher achievements is part of a range of evidence that pupil's motivation makes a reliable predictor of academic success. The data obtained are instructive for practitioners in education because they clearly suggest that there is a need for promoting academic motivation among pupils. Some of the ways to realize this goal are strengthening the sense of self-efficiency, facilitating the implementation of active learning strategies, con...
