The result of inspection showed that these fishes were infected with 25 species of parasites belonging to the class Myxosporea. These included one species each of Chloromyxum and Unicauda, two species each of Myxidium and Thelohanellus and 19 species of Myxobolus. Among these parasites, Myxobolus pfeifferi infected the highest number of hosts (ten host species), followed by M. drjagini and M. oviformis (nine host species each), while five parasite species infected one host species each. Among these fishes, C. luteus was infected with the highest number of parasite species (18 species), followed by C. carpio (13 species). Myxobolus. hemibarbi was recorded in the present study for the first time in Iraq. The description and measurements of this parasite is presented. In addition, a total of 35 new host records in Iraq were reported for 18 species of these parasites.

These fishes belonged to eight species: Alburnus caeruleus, Carasobarbus luteus, Carassius carassius, Chondrostoma regium, Cyprinus carpio, Leuciscus vorax, Liza abu and Silurus triostegus. Result of inspection showed that five fish species were infected with 16 species of myxosporeans. These myxosporeans included one species of Chloromyxum, two species of Myxidium and 13 species of Myxobolus. Among all these parasites, Myxobolus cyprinicola, M. parvus and M. sphaericus infected the highest number of hosts (four host species each), while six parasite species infected only one host each. Among these fishes, C. luteus was infected with the highest number of parasite species (13 species), followed by C. regium and L. abu (eight species each) and S. triostegus (one species) while no infection was detected from three fish species (A. caeruleus, L. vorax and C. carpio). In addition, a total of 12 new host records in Iraq were reported for nine species of these parasites.

The first species, Dactylogyrus sphyrna is characterized by having the seventh pair of marginal hooklets almost twice as large as other marginal hooklets, powerful inner and outer processes of median hooks especially the inner one which is expanded terminally, one connecting bar and long spirally twisted copulatory organ. The second species, Daclytogyrus phoxini differs from the first one by having marginal hooklets of the same size, inner and outer processes of median hooks are not powerful, two connecting bars present, the second one of them is T shaped and tube of copulatory organ is curved and C shaped. With the present record, the total number of Dactylogyrus species in freshwater fishes of Iraq reached 51 species.

(Common carp) as monoculture or as predominat species togather with grass carp and silver carp. In the present study monoculture of grass carp was performed. Three - hundreds fingerlings of grass carp of 1.5 g weight were cultured in about 600 m2 eartheen pond from 20th of June till 9th of November, 1997. For the first two months of the experiment, no additional feed was added to what had been available in the pond. For the rest of the culture period, 1773 kg of five species of plants were utilized. They were included 91 kg of Phargmites australis, 972 kg of Paspalim sp., 423 kg of Medicago sativa, 171 kg of Ceratophyllum demersum and 116 kg of Paspalum Paspaloides. In addition to that a total of 150 kg of manure was used as a fertilizer in three occasions. At the end of the experiment the average weight of the fishes was 498 gm ranged from 370 gm to 980 gm.
