The association for the Advancement of Pedagogical use of Technologies of Information and Communi... more The association for the Advancement of Pedagogical use of Technologies of Information and Communication in Atlantic (APTICA) is a leader in development and implementation of ICTenhanced pedagogical practices in the French Atlantic Canada since 2000. Its annual conference gathers more than 150 educators and stakeholders from all levels and institutions (school, college, university and government) to discuss and share best practices and innovations through more than 30 workshops, lectures, and demonstrations Over the past 15 years multiple partnerships developed between APTICA and provincial ministries of Education, school districts and schools, Industry Canada, as well as international institutions and organizations (ProjeTICE Association from France and Francophone International Organization-OIF (Organisation Internationale de Francophonie) to help bring together and develop a number of free multimedia online teaching resources, such as a very recent project Problematice to support learning and teaching problem solving skills in mathematics and French. The combination of those accomplishments has led to the partnership development CompéTICA in order to establish a digital competences framework along with elaboration of criteria for identification and study of best practices within the lifelong continuum. Introduction: context and rationale Professional development of teachers is a key factor of successful integration of the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in schools (BuabengAndoh 2012). In 2000, the APTICA (Association for the educational advancement of information technology and communication in the Atlantic), a nonprofit organization, was established to organize annually a conference to encourage and facilitate the educational integration of information technology and communication. For the past 15 years, the APTICA congress has united the Francophone Learning Community of the Atlantic Provinces to share and to develop educational resources using ICT. Along with helping francophone teachers from New Brunswick, Canada, as well as other Atlantic provinces to increase educational potential of technology, the APTICA contributes to their leading role in promoting technopedagogical innovation across the French Canada. In fact, Paquin (year not available) found that New Brunswick teachers, along with their colleagues from Saskatchewan and British Columbia, use more frequently ICT than their colleagues from the other Canadian provinces. The APTICA, whose head office is located in Moncton, New Brunswick, works jointly with the government, the community, and other educational institutions such the Université de Moncton to create and share teaching and learning resources in French language thus responding to the need to strengthen the identity of French minority communities across the Atlantic region and beyond. Several innovative technopedagogical initiatives at the school level, such as the use of individual laptops, interdisciplinary projects, roboticsbased learning, interactive learning with clickers and whiteboards, and recently teaching programming (Blanchard et al. 2010; Freiman et al. 2011; Freiman and McGrawLeBlanc, 2012) were led or actively supported by the APTICA members. In the next sections, we will reflect of the APTICA's practice, from the point of view of its historical background, featuring professional development through the annual congresses, as well as the other examples of collaborations with schools, colleges, universities and other institutions and organizations. New initiatives led by the APTICA members will also be analyzed.

This study investigated whether the knowledge of the Enneagram personality system affects psychological well-being and unconditional self-acceptance of university students who have been attending university for at least a year. A two-group design was employed, wherein a control and an experimental group completed a pre-test and two post-tests on psychological well-being and unconditional self-acceptance. The randomly selected experimental group received three weekly educational sessions on the Enneagram system. Results show that the knowledge of the Enneagram personality system does not have a significant effect on psychological well-being. Due to a small sample size and violation of the assumptions required to conduct an ANCOVA, it was not possible to determine if the knowledge of the Enneagram affects unconditional self-acceptance. Recommendations include using a larger sample, changing the number of educational session...

We conducted individual (N = 8) semi-structured interviews to solicit information about the participants’ lived world through their articulated voices and experiences. Qualitative data were analyzed using Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological approach. Four themes emerged: parenting and financial difficulties; mother’s level of education and their involvement in their children’s education; relationship with their children’s school; and parental role in enhancing language acquisition and building cultural identity. Findings revealed that single-parent, low-income francophone mothers need help with parenting skills as they pertain to improving their children’s education achievements. We concluded that the New Brunswick government needs t...

This original perspective is gleaned from a research project that is currently being conducted in official French-language minority schools across Canada. The article presents a brief explanation of the Canadian context with regard to the constitutional rights of official-language minorities to education in their language, describes the method used to conduct the first phase of the research project, and presents some of the main findings.

This article outlines the results of one of these activities with the objective of identifying risks for cardiovascular health of the university’s employees. In total, 46 staff members came to the risk assessment clinic. Six screening stations were available to participants: measurement of blood pressure, total cholesterol, blood sugar, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, and a skin fold test (sum of five measures). Participants were provided a passport to health where their results were recorded; 84.5% of the participants visited at least five of the six stations. The results indicated that very few were at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases caused by hypertension or diabetes. However, it was discovered that hypercholesterolemia placed 38% of the men and 27% of the women at risk for cardiovascular health related issues. Some participants...

It also measured the correlation between the total scores on the psychological well-being instrument and unconditional self-acceptance questionnaire. A two-group design was employed, wherein a control and an experimental group completed a pre-and two post-tests on psychological well-being and unconditional self-acceptance. The randomly selected experimental group received three weekly educational sessions on the Enneagram system. Results show that the knowledge of the Enneagram personality system does not have a significant effect on psychological well-being. Due to a small sample size and violation of the assumptions required to conduct an ANCOVA it was not possible to determine if the knowledge of the Enneagram affects unconditional self-acceptance. Findings indicate also a low to moderate positive correlation between the Unconditional self-acceptance questionnaire Chamberlain and Haaga (2001a) and Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale (1989). Recommendations include using a larger sample, changing the number of educational sessions or their format, and using an additional test to measure irrational thoughts. Therefore, in a future study it may be favorable that the intervention be an integral part of a family and consumer sciences university course. Finally, despite the results of this study there are some indicators that suggest the Enneagram system be taught in schools and ix university to help prepare students to be more conscious of how marketing agencies may manipulate such knowledge to their advantage.

Discourse analysis techniques were used to examine the resulting transcript of interviews with experts in technopedagogy for evidence of digital skill development from school and postsecondary contexts. Using the DELPHI method, six experts were consulted about key digital competence. Qualities such as resilience, adaptability and open-mindedness were identified as key. Findings also indicate that digital skill can be defined by one’s ability to use technologies and adapt positively to challenges during use. From an educational perspective, our results show that the digital skills needed to succeed in a technological world are not necessarily the ones developed in schools and colleges. For instance, experts agree that educational institutions looking to foster digital skills should move beyond teaching mainly technical ability, focusing instead on developing more analytical or critical ability.
