Scholars across educational and psychological literature debate the validity of racial identity t... more Scholars across educational and psychological literature debate the validity of racial identity theories for Whites. Myriad critiques exist regarding the most widely used White Racial Identity Development (WRID) model as designed by Janet , particularly in regards to its ability to accurately describe the diversity of Whites at various identity statuses. This paper proposes to expand existing theory through an investigation of Whites who are engaged in antiracism activism (e.g., Whites who, according to the WRID model, exhibit 'sophisticated' or 'advanced' racial identity traits). The authors present thematic findings according to in-depth interviews with these participants. Participant racial identity traits are compared and contrasted with Helms' model and suggestions for subsequent educational and investigative practices are given.

This article examines the structure of parent consultation in play therapy. The components of effective parent consultation are outlined, from the initial phone interview through termination, to provide guidance to play therapists for communicating with caregivers throughout the therapy process.

Te... more ABSTRACT This article presents outcomes of a qualitative exploration of White racial identity. Ten participants whose characteristics were reflective of Helms's (1990) autonomy status defined their racial identities and related lifestyle choices. Findings are conceptualized within the framework of Helms's (1990, 1995) theory of White racial identity development. Suggestions are intended to enhance White racial identity theory and provide empirical support for characteristics of Whites who are engaged in antiracist activities.
