The convenient synthetic approach was adapted to the assembly of the symmetrical trimeric, tetrameric, and pentameric congeners. The synthesis clarified the discrepancy in the NMR data reported for the natural products. X-ray diffraction analysis of Clemahexapetoside A revealed that it adopted an armchair conformation with two carbohydrate rings as the arms and two aromatic rings as the back and seat, respectively.

The third passage hbASC and the HBL-100 cell line were co-cultured in a Transwell culture system for 15 days. The hbASCs were observed and identified by inverted phase contrast microscope and transmission electron microscopy, and immunocytochemistry staining in the induced and control groups. Both the third passage hbASCs and the HBL-100 cell line cells could adhere and grow rapidly after co-culture in the Transwell system. After co-culture for 15 days, the morphology of some induced hbASCs changed into epithelial-like cells. Some induced hbASCs showed positive expression of CK18, CK19 by immunocytochemistry staining, and typical epithelium cells with microvilli, desmosomes and tonofilaments observed under TEM. The positive rate of CK18 and CK19 was (24.4 +/- 12.0)% and (21.6 +/- 16.4)% in experimental group, and (1.8 +/- 1.7)% and (1.1 +/- 0.6)% in control group. The data suggests that hbASCs may have the potential to transdifferentiate into human mammary epithelial-like cells after co-culturing in Transwell in vitro.

In this study, we have developed an efficient synthetic route for this compound based on Koenigs–Knorr glycosylation and mild-basic deprotection. Through this route, baicalin was obtained from cheap starting materials in a linear longest 10-step sequence with an overall yield of 27%. Four analogs of baicalin were also synthesized in high yields with the key protocols developed in the synthesis of baicalin, demonstrating the general applicability of our synthetic route. Efficient synthesis of baicalin and its analogs will hopefully facilitate further structure–activity relationship studies of this class of compounds.

We define first a quasi-closest point that can be locally found through the uniform subdivision cells, and then we provide the criteria for determining whether a point lies inside a polygon according to the quasi-closest point. For a large number of points to be tested against the same polygon, the criteria are employed to determine the inclusion property of an empty cell as well as a test point. The experimental tests show that the new method resolves the singularity of a test point on an edge without loss of efficiency. The GIS case study also demonstrates the capability of the method to identify which region contains a test point in a map.

Between December 1992 and December 2001, 111 patients with stage IB-IIA cervical cancer surgically treated were analyzed. Median age 40 years. According to 1994 FIGO Staging System: IB 80 (IB1 40, IB2 40) and IIA 31. There were 93 cases of squamous cell carcinoma (83.5%), 17 cases of adenocarcinoma (15.3%) and one case of small cell carcinoma. All patients were treated by radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy, 74 patients had preoperative adjuvant radiotherapy, 24 patients had postoperative adjuvant treatment. Kaplan-Meier method was used to evaluate the survival, the related prognostic factors were assessed by Cox regression and chi(2) test. The overall 5-year survival rate was 85.9%, being 89.1%, 90.7% and 78.4% for stage IB1, IB2 and IIA, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that tumor size (hazards ratio [HR] = 1.479, P = 0.152), tumor type (HR = 1.440, P = 0.264), clinical stage (HR = 1.380, P = 0.354), adjuvant treatment (HR = 1.210, P = 0.450), lymph node metastasis (HR = 1.432, P = 0.540), endocervical involvement (HR = 2.244, P = 0.036), depth of myometrial invasion (HR = 3.295, P = 0.06) and multiple sexual partners during pregnancy (HR = 10.172, P = 0.000) were of prognostic significance. The latter two were the most important factors indicative of poor prognosis. The depth of myometrial invasion and multi-partners combined with pregnancy are closely related to the prognosis while the pre- and/or postoperative adjuvant therapy should be considered for stage IB-IIA cervical cancer with deep myometrial invasion and in pregnant patients with multiple sexual partners.
