Para tanto serão feitos paralelos com outras obras de David Foster Wallace, como alguns de seus contos e ensaios; e será considerado o papel que algumas figuras femininas presentes no romance cumprem em relação ao personagem aqui destacado. ABSTRACT: This paper intends to analyse one of the presentations of two main themes, addiction and liberty, in the novel Infinite Jest, i.e., the behavior of the eldest son of the Incandenzas, Orin. The unconscious is productively used every day although people are not aware of its importance. S... more The unconscious is productively used every day although people are not aware of its importance. Some personal habits and automatic processes of the human body work unconsciously. Due to intensive emotional experiences, sometimes even the unconscious needs a therapeutic care. Some misinterpreted information may trigger traumatic mental disorders. The search for Music Therapy has increased. In this specialty’s sessions the patient is involved in unusual way, as the unconscious is considered a projection of the patient on his artistic product, revealing details normally prevented by his ego. The therapist, due to their developed sensitivity, often receives stimuli called intuition from his own unconscious, and there are studies that show intuition is almost always right.

A partir deste ponto o alumínio teve o seu uso mais intensificado graças a suas propriedades físicas, mecânicas, elétricas e térmicas que são de grande aplicabilidade (principalmente a sua baixa densidade aliada a uma boa resistência a tração). A adição de elementos de liga em uma matriz de alumínio proporciona mudanças em suas características, que podem ser modificadas a fim de atender as mais diversas necessidades industriais. Este trabalho tem por finalidade a caracterização de uma liga de alumínio que possui elementos de ligadesconhecidos.

A ANVISA disponibiliza um conjunto de 6.076 bulas em formato PDF, mas as informações nelas contidas não estão estruturadas. Um dos desafios deste trabalho consistiu em extrair automaticamente as informações presentes nesse conjunto de bulas. Este artigo apresenta uma metodologia semiautomática de mineração de textos para mapear as bulas da ANVISA nas redes de interações entre fármacos da base de dados DrugBank, juntamente com as doenças encontradas na base SNOMED-CT. Os medicamentos, as doenças, os fármacos e suas relações foram estruturadas e armazenadas em um banco de dados em grafos utilizando a tecnologia Neo4j.

In this contribution, a new and simple elastoplastic model is proposed and applied to a wide rang... more In this contribution, a new and simple elastoplastic model is proposed and applied to a wide range of stress triaxiality. Regarding the constitutive formulation, a new equivalent stress is suggested depending now on the second and third invariant of the deviatoric stress tensor. The effect of the last one is introduced by the so-called normalized third invariant that is a ratio between the third invariant and the von Mises equivalent stress. The new proposition is then implemented in an academic finite element framework and through an operator split methodology the numerical model is determined. After that, numerical simulations are carried out regarding different load conditions. The numerical results obtained by the new proposition are compared with experimental data and classical elastoplastic models, such as: von Mises and Tresca. Ischemia and reperfusion is a very frequently phenomenon that is presented in many clinical situa... more Ischemia and reperfusion is a very frequently phenomenon that is presented in many clinical situations like in liver transplantation as well as in traumatic situation of these organs.One way of minimizing this injury is the remote ischemic perconditioning, described in myocardial ischemia, in which brief nonlethal cycles of ischemia and reperfusion of the arm or leg are applied remotely during index ischemia. Therefore, this current study aims to compare the effects of perconditioning and postconditioning on injury of ischemia and reperfusion in the liver.

This paper aims at composing a reflexive approach of contemporary discussions, arising from the t... more This paper aims at composing a reflexive approach of contemporary discussions, arising from the theory of cartographic visualization, with emphasis on the issues of construction of signs used in paper maps. To make it, we tried to combine the MacEachren (1994a & 1995) and Slocum (1999) discussions about map design steps; specially those linked with the Peirce semiotic extraction parameters. Through the application of semiotic reading of topographic and synoptic maps, the particular issues related to the strategies of each cartographic product studied will be shown in order to present an alternative way to map makers in the tasks of construction of more effective signs to different kind of map users. There will be comparison between the perspectives related to the theories of knowledge pointing at new issues in the way of the process of construction of spatial information through maps.

We propose a mechanism to actively tune the operation of plasmonic cloaks with an external magnet... more We propose a mechanism to actively tune the operation of plasmonic cloaks with an external magnetic field by investigating electromagnetic scattering by a dielectric cylinder coated with a magneto-optical shell. In the long wavelength limit we show that the presence of a magnetic field may drastically reduce the scattering cross-section at all observation angles. We demonstrate that the application of magnetic fields can modify the operation wavelength without the need of changing material and/or geometrical parameters. We also show that applied magnetic fields can reversibly switch on and off the cloak operation. These results, which could be achieved for existing magneto-optical materials, are shown to be robust to material losses, so that they may pave the way for developing actively tunable, versatile plasmonic cloaks.
