This paper aimed to investigate the effectiveness of safety and wellbeing management system at th... more This paper aimed to investigate the effectiveness of safety and wellbeing management system at the Dar es Salaam Port. The study used a sample size of 60 people all being the employees and management of Dar es Salaam Port. Several observed towards adequacy of effectiveness of safety and healthiness management system at a workplace. The study found that a great part of employees including the management aware of the existence of SHMS at the port. However, it noted that injuries occurred at the port frequently, at the order of 10 or above accidents per month due to hazardous cargo handled, machines use, air pollutions and heavy cargo. In additional to low awareness, low number of environmental assessments and inadequate administration of SHMS laws. The recommends that awareness on safety, well-being management at workplaces needs to be enhanced and that OSHA as sole workplace environmental regular needs improved to make it more effective. Additional, the study recommends that employee safety and wellbeing are essential aspects of human rights that need to demand by the workers and human rights activists.

The assessment of the challenges of hydrography and accuracy of the chart information is particularly important to strengthen data accuracy and meet the requirement of nautical charts in Tanzania. Primary data were collected through face-to-face interviews with the respondents and questionnaires as a tool. Secondary data obtained through, journals, articles, and report both published and unpublished. Quantitative data were analyzed by using SPSS whereas qualitative data analyzed by using content analysis. Data provided in this article will improve nautical navigational charts practices in Tanzania and reduce variation greatly in accuracy to help mariners make informed decisions based on the data...

The Tanzanian shipping industry is fighting to achieve the efficient application of modern naviga... more The Tanzanian shipping industry is fighting to achieve the efficient application of modern navigation equipment. The failures associated with electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) users on modern ship in Tanzania, and their solutions, are main concern of this article. Based on the literature review and opinions of professional navigators investigated, the present faults faced by ECDIS users in Tanzania are identified. The frequent failures of ECDIS include the fluctuation of the information data due to the lack of constant electrical power, stop working, broken of ECDIS, failures of display information on the screen, ink problem on the screen and the lack of committed training etc. In addition, the findings show that, most departments do not operate by professional personnel, lack of service at light time of recommended, lack of validation of knowledge to crews, lack of modern merchant vessels equipped with ECDIS undertaking coastal shipping and lakes in Tanzania w...
