Elementary schools in eastern Kansas (n=17) were cluster randomized to A+PAAC (N=9, target ≥ 100 min/wk.) or control (N=8). Academic achievement (math, reading, spelling) was assessed using the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-Third Edition (WIAT-III) in a sample of children (A+PAAC = 316, Control = 268) in grades 2 and 3 at baseline (Fall 2011

The purpose of this study was to examine kinematic differences between profi cient and non-profi cient free throw shooters and to determine which variables have the greatest impact on successful free throw shooting performance. Thirteen healthy recreationally active males volunteered to participate in this study. Each participant shot three sets of ten consecutive free throws from the regulation distance from the basket. Each set was performed under 3 minutes with 1-2-minute rest between each set. A high-defi nition camera recording at 30 fps captured the free throw shooting motion from a sagittal point of view. Video analysis software was used to analyze the following kinematic variables: knee angle, elbow angle, hip fl exion, ankle fl exion, release angle, shoulder angle, hand release height, and elbow height. The fi ndings of this study suggest that lower elbow positioning infl uenced by greater knee, ankle, and hip fl exion during the preparatory phase of the shooting motion may lead to improvements in free throw shooting accuracy. Moreover, greater ball release height and release angle, as previously suggested, could decrease the margin of error and enhance free throw shooting performance. By using these kinematic variables to create the discriminant function projection model, it is plausible that profi cient free throw shooters can be accurately classifi ed in 94% of cases.

However, diagnosticians, practitioners, and researchers have been beset by problems related to the definition and measurement of this condition. This article presents an excellent review and appraisal of available instruments for assessing hyperactivity in children. Poggio and Salkind conclude that most instruments have serious flaws that limit their effectiveness in assessment of hyperactivity in children.

Five groups of male Long-Evans rats were weaned and assigned randomly to one of the five treatmen... more Five groups of male Long-Evans rats were weaned and assigned randomly to one of the five treatment groups listed below: (1) Total isolates (raised in individual cages), (2) Contact isolates (M) (males separated from each other by screen), (3) Contact isolates (F) (male separated from female by screen), (4) Cohabitants (M) (two males per cage) and (5) Cohabitants (F) (male and female together). When tested as adults in pair encounters with stimulus males and females, groups 1–3 spent significantly less time grooming the perianal region of the stimulus animal when compared to groups 4 and 5. In addition to this finding, was the fact that in male sexual behavior, groups 1–3 showed significantly lower frequencies of intromission when compared to groups 4 and 5 when all were paired with a receptive female. It was concluded that postweaning isolation has effects on adult social and sexual behavior. A possible explanation of the findings is presented.

The two primary models of concern were the regression discrepancy model and the straight discrepancy model. In addition, the true score discrepancy model was included in the comparisons. Data with predetermiried parameters were generated to simulate conditions mirroring those found in actual practice. Four base data sets for samples of 10,000 cases each were simulated. Findings demonstrate the consequences that result when one of the models is chosen as the preferred model for inclusion in procedures for identifying and qualifying students for services for learning disabled students. Results of the simulation studies indicate that the inflation of qualification rates can range from 12% to 31% when using the straight discrepancy model versus the regression discrepancy model, depending on the score reliabilities for the two measures and the extent of their correlation. (Contains 10 figures, 14 tables, and 6 references.) (Author/SLD) Reproductions supplied by EDRS are the best that can be made from the original document.

A number of significant findings resulted, with the consultant's perceived facilitativeness being the main predictor of the desirable consultation outcomes. These results are consistent with some earlier findings. Some results that are inconsistent with other studies also are discussed.

New objective-referenced tests are prepared each year. Both judgmental (Angoff, Ebel, and Nedelsky) methods and empirical (contrasting groups and borde;line) methods have been used to set test standards. While no one method appears to identify true cut scores 'old cut score comparison over methods is consistent with other research, only the Angoff and Ebel methods are currently being used. While problems were found with all methods, empirical and Nedelsky methods-were more confusing to participantt and yielded lower standards. A survey approach has replaced, panel judgment for data collection. It is more efficient, permits a broader input base, and produces more psychometrically favorable standards. A 26-member State Advising Committee inperpolates for the data gathered to set standards rather than using the mathematics prescribed by the methods. The process, while objective to a point, remains largely value-laden. Standard data for each 1982 test are given. Sample survey forms and rating sheets for the Angoff and Ebel ,methods are appended. The focus of the study was to examine empirically the degree of relationship that existed between a series of noncognitive grouping criteria, defined as personality characteristics, and the cognitive outcomes of classroom instruction in mathematics. It was found, in general, that personality grouping was feasible on the basis of certain specific personality characteristics, but more research is needed to study different groups, other content areas, and other personality grouping criteria.
