For minority serving institutions (MSI) knowledge of business students\u27 awareness of and sensitivity to diversity issues is crucial in order that a wide variety of perspectives may be included in all business courses and activities. The purpose of this study was to assess the existing levels of awareness among MSI business students toward issues of diversity. Study results are presented, implications for AACSB “continuous improvement” through microcurriculum revisions are discussed, and suggestions for including diversity in MSI business courses are also provided

The authors administered the adapted questionnaire to undergraduate education and legal online students in a Southern predominately Hispanic serving institution. This study allowed the students to identify their preferred method of learning and will allow the online instructors to modify and improve the design of their courses. Results of the learning styles questionnaire will be presented with suggestions and recommendations for teachers of field dependent and independent online learners.

This study suggests that all online juror information Web sites be analyzed for "usability" if they are to be an effective education tool. Specifically, this study focused on online materials that will reach primarily Hispanic jurors. The state of Texas has 254 counties, of which 187 have Web sites or addresses. For this study, we selected all the counties with a Hispanic population of 50.1% or higher (34 counties). Of those 34 counties, 24 had actual Web sites. Of the 24 counties with Web sites, only five had juror education materials online and so were selected for this study. Prospective jurors were selected from each of the identified counties and were asked to evaluate the Web sites for usability. Pa...

Goals and objectives were negotiated and a formal written agreement describing trust, communication, time expectations and constraints, confidentiality of information, plan developing, success criteria and measurement, delineation of mutual responsibilities and target dates for learning goals was executed. Although the students all indicated a successful experience, the process of how each achieved that experience varied.

A growing body of evidence suggests that providing information to students about accurate drinking norms is associated with decreased drinking on campus (U.S. Department of Education, Higher Education Center, 2006). Accredited hospitality administration programs in the United States were surveyed to determine the extent to which alcohol awareness activities are included in courses that cover the role of legal and ethical managerial behavior concerning beverage management.

With excessive amounts of information generated within the workplace, continual change exists for what is taught in some of our business courses. This is especially true for specific content areas such as Retail Management. This paper proposes a process for verifying and updating course content in order to stay current with workplace trends which these authors have called “Quickulum: A Process for Quick Response Curriculum Verification.”

The following paper will review successful structured activities used by the authors in a mid-size southern university.

This mindset of gaining an immediate response to questions asked translates into the classroom environment as well. Although online learning and virtual classes offer students freedom from traditional classroom constraints, the need for constructive and immediate feedback on assignments continues to be a main focus for online students. Over a period of one year, this study focused on learning the perceptions of students to detailed instructor feedback on online assignments, how they wanted to receive that feedback and how satisfied they were with the feedback provided by the instructor. Learning the kind of feedback students perceive as beneficial will assist the online instructor to provide comprehensive and constructive feedback that promotes the realization of participative goals, engages students and enhances learning....

The Occupational Outlook Handbook reveals that employment in” computer and information technology” occupations is projected to grow 12 percent between the years 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all other occupations. This is directly related to an emphasis on cloud computing, the collection, storage and connectivity of data to the Internet and the continued demand for mobile computing (Online Learning Consortium, 2015). This survey will describe online student perceptions and their preferences with regard to taking online courses and their concerns with these online courses.

This two-year follow up study seeks to better understand the relationship between academic performance and the actual time of submission of assignments relative to the deadline imposed on those submissions. The authors investigated the effect of academic assignment submission time and the academic grades earned before, on, and after the assignment submission deadline. These results continue to suggest that the earlier assignments are submitted, the higher the grades tend to be. Therefore, online faculty need to encourage undergraduate online students to develop a better understanding of the potential benefits of adopting the habit of earlier submission of assignments.

Although there is concern whether prospective juror pools emulate shifting racial and ethnic populations, (Fukari, 1996), it is unconstitutional to use “race conscious means” to create a racially balanced jury pool. The U.S. Hispanic population grew from 9.1 million in 1970 to 35.3 million in 2000, an increase of nearly four times, and 53 million in 2012, an increase of nearly six times (Pew Research Center, 2014). Hispanics are the largest minority group in the U.S., making up 17% of the population. By the year 2060, it is projected that Hispanics will constitute 31% of the national U.S. population (Krogstad, 2014). The importance of partnerships with stakeholders, memorandum of agreements to share data, observations of first year teachers by university faculty, employer surveys, and the first year teacher’s perspectives about how well our university prepared them, as well as how they compare with other first year teachers nationally is addressed. Multiple sources of data were used to provide information about completers, individuals that graduated from the educator preparation program. These include state reports, national trends, and review of survey results next to universities across the United States involved in teacher preparation. Graduates of our teacher preparation program have a 93% retention rate after five years of teaching. The national average is 50% a...

In addition, demographic data will be evaluated as a means of examining the basis for decision making. The conclusions of this research indicate that with the added emphasis of business ethics as a course and a topic in other courses over the last decade, there has been a positive change in the ethical attitudes of business students.INTRODUCTIONThe Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) supports ethics education as a part of the business curriculum for business students and underscores the position of ethics among curricular requirements. For undergraduate business students, the need for ethics is reflected in the general knowledge and skills portion of the standards (Ethics/Sustainability Resource Center, n.d.). In an effort to advance ethical behaviors and attitudes of college students studying business, this study was adapted from two earlier studies that attempted to establish changes with regard to college student reactions to an ethical dilemma and the role of demographic information in decision-making.In 1988 Grant and Broom published a study that investigated the differences in undergraduate business students responses to an ethical dilemma profiling demographic characteristics as a means of examining the impact of these variables as a common bases for decision making. This study was replicated ten years later by Farling and Winston (2001) with a view toward determining if student responses had changed in a decade and if the impact of demographic variables had altered student responses.RESEARCH PROBLEMThe research problem in the original study by Grant and Broom (1988) was to examine if "family income and father's occupation had a significant impact on the business ethics views" held by the business students. In Fading and Winston's replicated study, the research problem was to explore "if the impact of these variables have changed over the last decade, or if the findings of Grant and Broom are relevant to, and reflected in the ethical responses of current [2001] college business students" (Fading and Winston, 2001). The purpose of this current study is to investigate whether the last two decades have impacted demographic variables and views of college business students on an ethical dilemma.BACKGROUNDIn order to establish a definition for the word ethics, we look at its origin. The word "ethics" is derived from the Greek word ethos, which means "customs", "conduct", or "character" (Northouse, 2007). De George (2009) describes business ethics as "a vibrant, complex enterprise developing on many levels" and which became used regularly in the United States during the early 1970s as a "field of academic teaching, research and publication." He also more broadly interprets the term "business ethics" as either a movement or as part of the discipline of ethics and describes ethics as the ''glue" that makes a successful business possible (De George, 2009). Cavico and Mujtaba (2009) define business ethics as "a specialized study of moral right and wrong." Williams (2009), in her small business resource website, posits a simplified definition for business ethics as "knowing the difference between right and wrong" while Purcell (1985) sums up business ethics as basically "a concern for fairness" and Sankaran and Tung (2003) define business ethics as simply "what a person would do even when no one is looking." No matter which definition is used, business ethics exist and is reflected in choices made by individuals in business.Business is the most popular undergraduate major (National Center for Education Statistics, 2011) and the AACSB has long supported ethics education for all business students. …
