The main objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of the UP applied in a group format compared with individual Treatment as Usual (TAU), in improving specific ED symptoms. METHODS The study sample (n=243) was a subset of participants of a randomized controlled trial conducted in the Spanish public health system. Specific symptoms assessed from pre-treatment to the six-month follow-up were: depressive, agoraphobic, generalized anxiety, panic, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Personality dimensions and quality of life were also measured. RESULTS There were statistically significant changes after the UP in all the study variables (0.44 = d = 1.35). Changes in depressive symptoms, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and perceived quali...

The Unified Protocol (UP) is a transdiagnostic intervention that has demonstrated efficacy in preventing EDs under different health conditions. The aim of this pilot study is to: 1) improve emotional dysregulation for the prevention of anxiety and depressive symptoms in women undergoing intrauterine inseminations (IUI); 2) assess their acceptability (e.g., satisfaction and adherence rates). Method: Five women undergoing IUI, with no clinical diagnoses, responded to measures of mood (anxiety and depression), affect, quality of life and emotional dysregulation in the pre- and post-assessments, and at the 1-, 3- and 6-month follow-ups. The UP was adapted to be applied during six face-to-face group sessions lasting 2 h. The COVID-19 pandemic situation implied changing to an online format to end the program. Results: The results showed that women did not develop EDs, and no statistically significant pre-post ...

Worldwide, one in three women experiences violence throughout their lives. According to the triple vulnerability theory, being a survivor of violence could constitute a psychological vulnerability that would favor the appearance of emotional disorders, affecting their health, their style of parenting, and family well-being. The objective of this study is to verify the feasibility and usefulness of Unified Protocol (UP) in a group format for improving emotion regulation in women survivors of violence attended in the Specific Child and Adolescent Intervention Team (SCAIT), a social community service. The sample consists of 11 women who have experienced different types of violence who received the UP through 11 weekly, two-hour long and in group format sessions. Assessments were conducted at pre and post intervention and at 3, 6, and 12 months follow-up. The results of the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) show an incr...

Considering the scarcity of screenings with adequate psychometric properties, this study aims to explore the validity evidence of the Overall Anxiety/Depression Severity and Impairment Scales (OASIS and ODSIS). A total of 382 university students from the general population were assessed on anxiety and depressive symptoms, as well as quality of life. The one-dimensional structure of both the OASIS and ODSIS explained 87.53% and 90.60% of variance, with excellent internal consistency (α = 0.94 and 0.95, respectively) and optimal cut-offs of 4 and 5, respectively. Both scales show a significant moderate association with other measures of anxiety, depression and quality of life. The OASIS and ODSIS have shown good reliability and sound validity evidence that recommend their use for the assessment and early detection of anxiety and depressive symptoms...

However, not all patients respond to the treatment as expected (not-on-track patients). Routine outcome monitoring (ROM) and measurement-based care (MBC), which consist of monitoring patients between appointments and using this data to guide the intervention, have been shown to be particularly useful for these not-on-track patients. Traditionally, though, ROM and MBC have been challenging, due to the difficulties associated with repeated monitoring of patients and providing real-time feedback to therapists. The use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) might help reduce these challenges. Therefore, we systematically reviewed evidence regarding the use of ICTs for ROM and MBC in face-to-face psychological interventions for mental health problems. The search included published and unpublished studies indexed in the electronic databases PubMed, PsycINFO, and SCOPUS. Main search terms wer...

Time devoted to the supervision of the academic tasks by the teachers in the School of Psychology in the Universidad de Zaragoza is very high. The main reasons are the important deficiencies of the students in some general competencies: a) information seeking in scientific sources, b) analysis and synthesis of information, and c) writing scientific papers according to academic standards. Goals. The goals of the present innovation project are: 1) To use an e-learning methodology for the improvement of the teaching-learning process of the academic standards for written tasks, 2) to generate innovative teaching materials that facilitate the learning-teaching process of those standards, 3) to reduce the required time for the teachers in the review of the academic deliveries due to format errors, redaction (plagiarism and APA style) or their structure. Method. Professors participating in this project will develop a set of short tutorials (Power points with audio) including ...

This condition is associated with different physical and mental health problems. The presence of emotional disorders (anxiety, depression and related disorders) among candidates for bariatric surgery is very high and predicts worse physical and psychological results. The present study aims to explore the feasibility and clinical usefulness of the Unified Protocol, a transdiagnostic emotion regulation-based intervention, delivered in an online group format to patients with emotional disorder diagnosis or symptoms, who are waiting for bariatric surgery. We will conduct a pilot study with a repeated single-case experimental design (multiple baseline design) in a public mental health service. The sample will consist of 60 participants, who will be randomized to three baseline conditions: 8, 12 or 15 evaluation days before the intervention. Diagnostic criteria, symptom...

The therapeutic focus of UP is to identify maladaptive behaviors of emotion regulation and to train new regulation strategies such as cognitive re‐appraisal or emotional exposure exercises. Method: This is a single‐case research study. The intervention was carried out in twenty 1‐hour sessions for 6 months. After treatment completion, follow‐ups were conducted at three, six, and twelve months. Results: The results of the 12‐month follow‐up revealed a clinically significant change in depressive symptomatology (RCIBDI‐II = ‐5.51), negative affect (RCINEGATIVE PANAS = ‐3.61), quality of life (RCIICV‐Sp = 4.61) and schizoid (RCIMCMIIII‐Schizoid = ‐4.36) and depressive (RCIMCMI‐III‐Depressive = ‐5.24) personality traits. Schizoid and depressive personality traits did not interfere with the application, course, and...

Anxiety control is a generalized psychological vulnerability for its development. The aim of this study is to explore the psychometric properties of the Anxiety Control Questionnaire Revised (ACQ-R) in Spanish pregnant women. 275 women responded to measures of anxiety, depression, affect, and quality of life. The original three-factor solution of the ACQ-R (emotional, threat, and stress control) was replicated by confirmatory analysis. The model fit improved when item 15 was changed from the emotional to the stress scale. Significant associations between ACQ-R scores and depression, anxiety, affect, and quality of life were found. During pregnancy, the measurement of risk factors for the development of anxiety disorders is needed. The ACQ-R is a short and valid instrument that assesses anxiety control perception during pregnancy, which can be a mechanism underlying anxiety progression, and hence a potential target for treatment.

This study aims at exploring the longitudinal contribution of a set of biopsychosocial factors for PPD in perinatal women. A longitudinal study was conducted, assessment was made with a website and included biopsychosocial factors that were measured during pregnancy (n = 266, weeks 16–36), including age, affective ambivalence, personality characteristics, social support and depression. Depression was measured again at postpartum (n = 101, weeks 2–4). The analyses included bivariate associations and structural equation modeling (SEM). Age, affective ambivalence, neuroticism, positive, and negative affect at pregnancy were associated with concurrent depression during pregnancy (all p < 0.01). Age, affective ambivalence, positive affect, and depression at pregnancy correlated with PPD (all p < 0.05). Affective ambivalence (β = 1.97; p = 0.003) and positive (β = −0.29; p <...
