A new class of ferrocenyl surfactants based on covalent linkage between amino acids or peptides a... more A new class of ferrocenyl surfactants based on covalent linkage between amino acids or peptides and ferrocene was designed. Accordingly, five ferrocenyl amphiphiles, FcS1-5, were synthesized, and their aggregation behaviors in aqueous solutions were studied. Compared to the other surfactants containing ferrocenyl units, FcS have a relatively smaller size and low molecular weight and are easy to synthesize. The influences of the number of carboxylic acid head groups and the number of Fc group in the hydrophobic tail, on the stability and aggregation behavior of these amphiphiles in aqueous medium, were explored to deduce the structure property relationships. A combination of fluorescence and dynamic light scattering techniques was used to elucidate the behavior of these molecules. A good agreement between the results obtained using different techniques was observed.

The objective of this study is to redesign a ventilated brake disc as a hyperventilated disc to c... more The objective of this study is to redesign a ventilated brake disc as a hyperventilated disc to compare the differences in temperature and brake distances; for this purpose, a monitoring system was installed in the vehicle which consisted of the implementation of two temperature sensors located near each disk and a data acquisition card. With the implementation of hyperventilated discs, the temperature generated by the braking friction could be reduced. The temperature values that occur between the discs when braking was monitored. To obtain the temperature values of the brake discs, road tests were conducted with different types of discs: ventilated discs on the two front wheels, hyperventilated discs on the two front wheels and mixed discs. In the mixed discs there is a ventilated disc on the right front wheel and a hyperventilated disc on the left front wheel. Con la implementación de los discos hiperventilados se pudo disminuir la temperatura generada por la fricción del frenado. Se realizó el monitoreo de valores de temperaturas que se producen entre los discos al momento de frenar. Para obtener los valores de temperaturas de los discos de frenos, se realizaron pruebas de ruta con diferentes tipos de discos: discos ventilados en las dos ruedas frontales, discos hiperventilados en las dos ruedas frontales y discos mixtos. Holley Plant Environmental Research Center located on the campus of Colorado State University, Ft Collins, CO. Individual experimental units consisted of 5 plants placed in short rows. Plot design was a CRD with 6 replications. Plots were treated oi separate dates for each treatment: 3 Jun for Marathon, 11 Jun for Disyston and 6 Jul for Admire. Soil drench plots were treated with approximately 0.34 L of total solution per plot. All treatments were watered immediately after application. Plots received irrigation in the form of overhead watering for ap proximately two months after initial treatments were applied. After this time, plots were watered throughout the remainder of the experiment by hand wa tering the plants from underneath. Plots were sampled on three different dates in September for the presence of spider mite damage. Trees used in the experiment were approximately 20 ft tall (2 inch dbh). At the time of applicaion, the trees had damage caused by lst-3rd generation pod gall midge and oviposition by 3rd generation adults was in progress. Treatments were applied on 13 Jun with a hand-held compressed air sprayer to the point of run-off. The experiment was arranged as a CRD with 7 replicates in untreated check and i replicates in all other treatments. Evaluation was done on 25 Jun by visual assessment of completely as well as partially galled new (< 2 week old) growths on the trees. Four different points per tree were sampled and the results averaged to obtain percent galled leaflets per leaf.

A commercial nursery located in Weld County CO, was used as the site of the experiment. Plots wer... more A commercial nursery located in Weld County CO, was used as the site of the experiment. Plots were established on 5 Jul utilizing infested trees which were approximately 3 inch dbh and 6-8 ft tall. Experimental units were individual trees growing in furrow-irrigated rows. All treatments were applied using a hand-held compressed air sprayer to the point of run-off. A CR design with 5 replications was used. Plots were sampled on three subsequent dates by beat sampling. A white piece of 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper was held under the branch while each branch was struck 5 times with a short wooden stake. The number of mites dislodged and collected from the branches during sampling were subsequently counted. Four branches per tree (1 sample from each cardinal point) were taken on each date. Numbers presented represent the total number of mites per tree.

Fruta del Norte is a completely concealed and extremely well-preserved, Late Jurassic epithermal ... more Fruta del Norte is a completely concealed and extremely well-preserved, Late Jurassic epithermal gold-silver deposit of both low- and intermediate-sulfidation type, which is located in the remote Subandean mountain ranges of southeastern Ecuador. Currently defined indicated resources are 23.8 million metric tons (Mt) averaging 9.61 g/t Au and the total endowment is 9.48 Moz Au. The deposit, notable for the widespread occurrence of visible gold and bonanza grades, will be bulk mined underground. Fruta del Norte was discovered in 2006 during greenfield exploration and systematic drill testing of a conceptual geologic model, which predicted that auriferous veins would occur in andesitic volcanic rocks inferred to underlie a zone of arsenic- and antimony-anomalous silicification in fluvial conglomerate. The host andesitic volcanic rocks, crosscutting feldspar porphyry, and associated phreatic breccia are part of a roof pendant in the Zamora batholith. Together, they are products of a co...

En los motores Wärtsilä Vasa 32 pertenecientes a una empresa de servicios petroleros, se ha evidenciado un aumento de la presión del cárter del motor debido al descenso de la compresión desde la cámara de combustión, producido por un desgaste abrasivo en las camisas de los cilindros, lo que ha provocado una disminución anual de la potencia. OBJETIVO. Determinar el desgaste producido en una camisa, los valores de los elementos abrasivos que se encuentran dispersos en el combustible y aceite, y la dependencia de la potencia en función de la presión del cárter. MÉTODO. Realización de mediciones con instrumentos de metrología y análisis de elementos dispersos en el combustible y aceite en laboratorios internacionales. RESULTADOS. Los análisis de aceite y combustible indicaron una excesiva cantidad de vanadio, aumentando el desgaste abrasivo en las camisas. Çavdar (S.Cerale Tetraploid) bitkisi 17 gün süreyle yetiştirilmiştir. 100 g toprakta 100 adet çavdar bitkisi yetiştirilerek oluşan çok dallı kök sistemiyle toprakta bulunan fosfor (P) ve potasyumun (K) kısa süre içerisinde sömürülmesi sağlanmış,. 17 günlük gelişme sonucunda bitkiler hasat edilmiştir. Bitkide P ve K konsantrasyonu kantitatif olarak kimyasal analiz yöntemleriyle belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak 2,6 ve 15 numaralı topraklar hariç diğer tüm toprak örnekleri için P2O5 ve 6 ve 10 nolu toprak örnekleri hariç K2O un yeterli düzeyde olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır

The ultra-thin films of 2-ferrocenyl-1,3-dithiolane (FcS 2 C 3) and 2-ferrocenyl-1,3dithiane (FcS... more The ultra-thin films of 2-ferrocenyl-1,3-dithiolane (FcS 2 C 3) and 2-ferrocenyl-1,3dithiane (FcS 2 C 4) drop-casted from toluene on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surface are investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Two types of growth polymorphs have been observed, which are distinctly different based on their nature of growth and the molecular level packing. We have developed a new type of temperature dependent desorption experiment named as "Microscopic Thermal Desorption Analysis" (MTDA) for understanding the adsorption energetics related to the observed growth polymorphs on the surface. Using MTDA, we have calculated the adsorption energies of growth polymorphs of both molecules and further revealed that their formation requires an activation energy. Plots were established at the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Field Researc... more Plots were established at the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Field Research Center of Colorado State University, located northeast of Ft. Collins, CO. The site used was three furrow-irrigated rows of plants, each separated into 10 ft plots (8 plants at 1 ft o.c, 2 ft gap separating each plot). The experimental design used was a CRD with four replications. Treatments were applied on 2 Sep with a compressed-air sprayer to the point of run-off. Plots were sampled at one day and four days (3 and 6 Sep) after foliar applications. Sampling was done by removing 3 blossoms from each plot and returning them to the laboratory where they were refrigerated until further processing. Refrigeration prevented subsequent predation by Orius sp. (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) present in the plots. Continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions is effective in preventing ventilator-associated p... more Continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions is effective in preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia, but it involves a risk of mucosal damage. The main objective of our study was to determine the incidence of airway complications related to continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions. In consecutive adult patients with continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions, we prospectively recorded clinical airway complications during the period after extubation. A multidetector computed tomography of the neck was performed during the period of 5 days following extubation to classify subglottic and tracheal lesions as mucosal thickening, cartilage thickening or deep ulceration. In the 86 patients included in the study, 6 (6.9%) had transient dyspnea, 7 (8.1%) had upper airway obstruction and 18 (20.9%) had dysphonia at extubation. Univariate analysis identified more attempts required for intubation (2.3 ± 1.1 vs. 1.2 ± 0.5; p = 0.001), difficult intubation (71.4 vs. 10.1%, p = 0.0...

The study of giant resonances in nuclei via inelastic electron and hadron scattering is currently... more The study of giant resonances in nuclei via inelastic electron and hadron scattering is currently of great interest.1,2 These resonances are outstanding manifestations of nuclear vibrational motion in which an appreciable number of nucleons participate. Charge exchange reactions such as (p,n) and (n,p) offer powerful options for studying isovector excitations without interference from isoscalars. In general, if the target has isospin T then an isovector transition leaves the residual nucleus with isospin T-1, T, or T+1. (Refer to fig. 1.) The T-1 excitation requires charge exchange, as in (p,n), so that the 3-component T3=T (the charge-component) of isospin is also changed to T-1. Only for N=Z (T=0) nuclei are all isovector transitions to states of isospin T+l. In such reactions as (p,p’) and (e,e’) the isoscalar mode can also be excited and, indeed, these tend to be the strongest transitions at medium energies (≲ 100 MeV).

Plots were sampled at one day and four days (3 and 6 Sep) after foliar applications. Sampling was done by removing 3 blossoms from each plot and returning them to the laboratory where they were refrigerated until further processing. Refrigeration prevented subsequent predation by Orius sp. (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) present in the plots. Continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions is effective in preventing ventilator-associated p... more Continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions is effective in preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia, but it involves a risk of mucosal damage. The main objective of our study was to determine the incidence of airway complications related to continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions. In consecutive adult patients with continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions, we prospectively recorded clinical airway complications during the period after extubation. A multidetector computed tomography of the neck was performed during the period of 5 days following extubation to classify subglottic and tracheal lesions as mucosal thickening, cartilage thickening or deep ulceration. In the 86 patients included in the study, 6 (6.9%) had transient dyspnea, 7 (8.1%) had upper airway obstruction and 18 (20.9%) had dysphonia at extubation. The study of giant resonances in nuclei via inelastic electron and hadron scattering is currently... more The study of giant resonances in nuclei via inelastic electron and hadron scattering is currently of great interest.1,2 These resonances are outstanding manifestations of nuclear vibrational motion in which an appreciable number of nucleons participate. Charge exchange reactions such as (p,n) and (n,p) offer powerful options for studying isovector excitations without interference from isoscalars. In general, if the target has isospin T then an isovector transition leaves the residual nucleus with isospin T-1, T, or T+1. (Refer to fig. 1.) The T-1 excitation requires charge exchange, as in (p,n), so that the 3-component T3=T (the charge-component) of isospin is also changed to T-1. Only for N=Z (T=0) nuclei are all isovector transitions to states of isospin T+l. In such reactions as (p,p’) and (e,e’) the isoscalar mode can also be excited and, indeed, these tend to be the strongest transitions at medium energies (≲ 100 MeV).
