However, recent results have shown that the virial theorem can not preclude the existence of certain nontrivial equilibrium configurations. Although some of these new results are based on an effective microscopic field theory, they are important for a theory of ball lightning that has been developed by the authors of the present work. Other theoretical results relative to magnetic force-free fields with field aligned currents and self-organized filamentary structures are also found to be relevant for this model.

The memory, as a fiction and the literature as a construction, is a mosaic that lies before the writer in the ongoing task of reviewing the past and appeal to the memory of the writer and the reader to write the future. This memory, of course, is far from the history and takes place in the modern society inside an organized rivalry memories, characteristic of pluralistic societies. In this sense, the literature serves as a memory (not History) of totalitarian societies, where memory and history, both officers must fully agree under penalty of being modified.

Thirty-one apricot cultivars were evaluated, including one Japanese plum and one apricot x plum hybrid as outgroup. Eleven primer pairs developed in peach were assayed. Seven primer pairs (64% of the assayed markers) were amplified successfully and resulted in 44 polymorphic bands, ranging from 2 (UDP96008) to 8 (UDP98406 and UDP98411) alleles. The observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.09 (UDP96008) to 0.88 (UDP96003). There is a high degree of homology for the SSR loci between peach and apricot and transportability of these markers among Prunus. According to genetic distances obtained within the apricot group, four clusters were identified: Western European;, North American; one cluster including 'Bebeco', 'Tirynthos' and 'Ninfa' and finally another cluster including other North American cultivars. Results show that the cultivars of the American g...

Almond, a highly polymorphic species, is a potential source of new genes for peach that has a strongly eroded gene pool. Here we describe the genetics of a male sterile phenotype that segregated in two almond ('Texas') 3 peach ('Earlygold') progenies: an F2 (T3E) and a backcross one (T1E) to the 'Earlygold' parent. High-density maps were developed using a 9k peach SNP chip and 135 simple-sequence repeats. Three highly syntenic and collinear maps were obtained: one for the F2 (T3E) and two for the backcross, T1E (for the hybrid) and E (for 'Earlygold'). A major reduction of recombination was observed in the interspecific maps (T3E and T1E) compared to the intraspecific parent (E). The E map also had extensive monomorphic genomic regions suggesting the presence of large DNA fragments identical by descent. Our data for the male sterility character were consistent with the existence of cytoplasmic male sterility, where individuals having the almond cytoplasm required the almond allele in at least one of two independent restorer genes, Rf1 and Rf2, to be fertile. The restorer genes were located in a 3.4 Mbp fragment of linkage group 2 (Rf1) and 1.4 Mbp of linkage group 6 (Rf2). Both fragments contained several genes coding for pentatricopeptide proteins, demonstrated to be responsible for restoring fertility in other species. The implications of these results for using almond as a source of novel variability in peach are discussed.

Although many theoretical ideas have been proposed and much experimental work has been performed, there is not yet an accepted explanation of their amazing properties. They are surprisingly stable, lasting up to 10 s, even minutes in some rare cases. By night, their appearance can be spectacular, but their brilliance is just similar to that of a home electric bulb. Most of the time, their motion is smooth and horizontal, but it can also be erratic and chaotic; they can penetrate indoors through window panes. We review here some of the most discussed approaches, including both theoretical models to find an explanation as well as experimental efforts to reproduce them in the laboratory. We distinguish between chemical and physical models, depending on whether their stability is mainly based on their chemical com...

Accounting bodies and employers have expressed opinions, which have been supported by research results, advocating that greater emphasis is placed on the development of communication skills throughout the education and training of accountants. Consequently, an increasing number of accounting programs now include communication skills as educational objectives or learning outcomes, and have integrated activities into the curriculum specifically to develop these skills. It is important to recognise that certain factors can severely restrict the development of communication skills; a major factor is communication apprehension. Research suggests that the existence of high levels of communication apprehension will make efforts to improve communication skills ineffective. Previous research findings indicate that accounting students have high levels of communication apprehension. This paper compares and contrasts the levels and profiles of communication apprehension exhibited by accounting students at the (UK University) and those at the (ESP University). The levels of communication apprehension are also compared with those of students from other disciplines at the same institutions. The results confirm the high levels of communication apprehension in European accounting students. There are notable differences between the two countries however in certain underlying factors.

Knowledge of the S-genotypes in apricot cultivars is essential to establishing productive orchards, defining combinations of compatible cultivars. The identification and cloning of RNases in related species has enabled the use of molecular techniques to characterize S-genotypes in apricot cultivars. To identify the S-alleles associated with self-incompatibility, three pairs of specific primers were tested using PCR, evaluating 31 apricot genotypes. Only the EM-PC2 + EM-PC3 combination produced satisfactory amplifications for the cultivars studied. The results enabled the characterization of 10 apricot cultivars. This PCR-based molecular tool allows S-genotypes to be characterized quickly and efficiently.

The method emerges as a natural extension of a recent procedure we established to derive the RPD for type-II intermittency. A new twoparameter class of reinjection probability densities is presented to describe a broad class of type-III intermittency maps. Our RPD expression also provides information about the lower bound of the reinjection (LBR). The new characteristic relation ε β depends on the LBR and it has a critical exponent β such that −1 < β < −0.5. The corresponding analytical duration probability densities are also derived in agreement with the numerical computation. The main classical results can be extracted from our RPD as particular cases.

The power generation at Jupiter is critical, and a conductive tether could be an alternative source of power. A current-carrying tether orbiting in a magnetized ionosphere/plasmasphere will radiate waves. A magnitude of interest for both power generation and signal emission is the wave impedance. Jupiter has the strongest magnetic field in the Solar Planetary System and its plasma density is low everywhere. This leads to an electron plasma frequency smaller than the electron cyclotron frequency, and a high Alfven velocity. Unlike the low Earth orbit (LEO) case, the electron skin depth and the characteristic size of plasma contactors affect the Alfven impedance.
