But this feudal reality does not prevent us from recognising at the same time the continuation and development of another reality: the concept of royal power which the Visigothic legislation had inherited from Rome. This concept survived in a latent state through the 10 th century and began to be revived at the beginning of the 11 th century with the decreta of 1017 issued by Alfonso V.

We conducted a retrospective study of 23 ovarian tumors histopathologically confirmed as ovarian cystadenofibromas that were preoperatively evaluated by transvaginal color Doppler sonography. Results. In all cases the mass was predominantly cystic. Septations appeared in 30.4% of the tumors. Papillary projections or solid nodules appeared in 56.5% of the cases. The most frequent appearance was a unilocular complex cystic mass. In 47.8% of the tumors, vascularization was detected, having a typical pattern of peripheral vascularization with scattered vessels of high blood flow impedance. Conclusions. We have described the sonographic spectrum of findings of ovarian cystadenofibromas. The most frequent appearance was a unilocular cystic mass with gross papillary projections or solid nodules. In almost half of the tumors, vascularization could be detected.

Fortunately, most adnexal masses in premenopause are benign, and the prevalence of ovarian cancer in this group of women is very low. 1

To compare the diagnostic performance of transvaginal color Doppler sonography (TVCD) and sonohysterography (SHG) in the diagnosis of endometrial polyps. Methods. Fifty-one women (mean age, 51 years; range, 27-75 years) with clinical or B-mode sonographic suspicion of endometrial polyps were included in this prospective study. Transvaginal color Doppler sonography first and then SHG were performed in all patients. On TVCD, a polyp was suspected when a vascular pedicle penetrating the endometrium from the myometrium was identified. On SHG, a polyp was suspected when a focal polypoid lesion was seen within the endometrial cavity. All patients underwent hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy, the findings of which were used as the criterion standard. Sensitivity and specificity for TVCD and SHG were calculated and compared by the McNemar test. Results. Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy findings were as follows: endometrial polyps, 41; endometrial hyperplasia, 3; cystic atrophy, 4; proliferative endometrium, 2; and endometritis, 1. Sensitivity and specificity for TVCD and SHG were 95% and 80% and 100% and 80%, respectively (McNemar test, P = .5) Conclusions. Transvaginal color Doppler sonography and SHG had similar performance for diagnosing endometrial polyps.

To the extent that official interest rates are able to affect the market value and the income flows of certain categories of financial instruments and that these changes in financial wealth and interest income have an effect on aggregate expenditure , output and prices, supplementary transmission mechanisms arise in addition to those related to the substitution between current and future (or between domestic and foreign) demand. However, the pass-through from official interest rates to market rates and asset prices and the sensitivity of demand to wealth and interest income are not dealt with in the current exercise. By focusing mainly on analysing the financial position of private agents in two countries (Germany and Spain), the scope is substantially more limited. Evidence provided points towards relatively small differences in the potential extent of the balance-sheet channel in both countries , although its potency seems to be larger in the case of Germany, particularly as far as non-financial enterprises are concerned.

The work has involved developing some general equations for calculating the contributions which the axially loaded spokes and the bending flexure of the rim make to hub displacement and hence hub-to-rim wheel stiffness. The work considers the effect which the spoke tightening preload has on the distribution of load throughout the wheel and also the influence it has on wheel stiffness. The developed theory has been applied to some modern racing cycle wheels which have just a few spokes and use a relatively rigid, part tubular cross-section rim. Such designs are evaluated, using actual mechanical properties, and their behaviour is discussed against more traditional multi-spoke wheel designs which have relatively much more flexible rims. The theory has been compared with the results obtained from exp...

This will be useful for a better understanding of the theoretical concept of fracture toughness and help to determine its magnitude both by finite element procedures and experimentally.

Recent studies suggest that it or its analogues may have advantages over other classes of microtubule-stabilizing agents. (؉)-Discodermolide's complex molecular architecture has made structureactivity relationship analysis in this class of compounds a formidable task. The goal of this study was to prepare simplified analogues of (؉)discodermolide and to analyze their biological activities to expand structure-activity relationships. A small library of analogues was prepared wherein the (؉)discodermolide methyl groups at C-14 and C-16 and the C-7 hydroxyl were removed, and the lactone was replaced by simple esters. The library components were analyzed for microtubule-stabilizing actions in vitro, antiproliferative activity against a small panel of human carcinoma cells, and cell signaling, microtubule architecture and mitotic spindle alterations by a multiparameter fluorescence cell-based screening technique. The results show that even drastic structural simplification can lead to analogues with actions related to microtubule targeting and signal transduction, but that these subtle effects were illuminated only through the high information content cell-based screen. Materials and Methods Chemistry General. Unless otherwise noted, all reactions were performed under an argon atmosphere. All reagents used in chemical syntheses were purchased from Aldrich Chemical

Thus, revisions to output forecasts lead to changes in CAB estimates, even if no additional discretionary measures have been taken. This paper presents an analysis of the impact of revisions to economic growth projections on the levels of and changes in structural balances when the Hodrick-Prescott filter is used to estimate the output gap. Two main conclusions are obtained. Firstly, economic growth revisions affect both the output trend and output gap, and thus CABs, to a degree that depends on whether the revisions have a temporary or permanent effect on the GDP level. Transitory changes in the level of output are mainly allocated to the cyclical component and CAB levels are little affected. If, however, the revision implies a permanent change in GDP level, CABs will be affected to a large...
