En esta investigación, se analizan las características y prácticas del proceso de expansión conglomerados urbanos, derivados de algunas consideraciones en el ámbito internacional desde un enfoque prospectivo para la gestión del territorio.

Production activities are controlled by a derivation of the Hedging Point Policy, and given that the system is subject to deterioration, it reduces progressively its capacity to satisfy product demand. Multiple deterioration effects are considered, reflected mainly in the quality of the parts produced and the reliability of the machine. Subcontracting is available as support to satisfy product demand; also, overhaul maintenance can be conducted to reduce the effects of deterioration. The main objective of the research is to determine simultaneously the production, maintenance and subcontracting rate, which minimize the total, incurred cost. A stochastic dynamic programming model is developed and solved through a simulation-based approach composed of statistical analysis and optimization with the response surface methodology. This work presents a new metaheuristic algorithm called the global-local neighborhood search algorithm (GLNSA), in which the neighborhood concepts of a cellular automaton are used, so that a set of leading solutions called smart-cells generates and shares information that helps to optimize instances of the FJSP. The GLNSA algorithm is accompanied by a tabu search that implements a simplified version of the Nopt1 neighborhood defined in Mastrolilli & Gambardella (2000) to complement the optimization task. The experiments carried out show a satisfactory performance of the proposed algorithm, compared with other results published in recent algorithms, using four benchmark sets an...

However, the circumstances in each country are different, for example, the definition of small and medium enterprises tends to be different and it depends on the point of view of the organization in question. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, 2004) indicates that the definition of SMEs reflects economic, cultural and social issues, so each country has its own consideration of what is a small or medium sized company. The point at which it converges is that, in most cases, the characterization of firms may depend on their incomes, the number of employees, profit margins or a combination of them. The World Bank (2006) points out that in the European Union micro, small and medium companies represent 99% of the production units, while for Latin America only micro signify between 80 to 90%, in OECD countries SMEs are over 95% of all enterprises. Even in the database developed by Kozac (2007) published by the World Bank it is mentioned that the discrepancy between the different definitions of SMEs adopted by the www.intechopen.com

Hence, this is what lays the foundations for a comprehensive growth of human settlements. Also, it provides a setting that allows the social reproduction of its inhabitants beyond their basic needs. The way to predict its expression in the territory results to elements conceived through planning. In our proposal the problem was modeled using a Markov decision process and then, the instance was optimized using dynamic programming. We proposed a new functional that includes a reward functional, that can be more helpful in processing industries because it considerate instances like incomes, maintenance costs, fixed costs to replace equipment, purchase price and salvage values; and this functional can be solved with dynamic programming and used to make effective decisions. Two theorems are proved related with this new functional. A numerical example is presented in order to demonstrate the utility of this proposal.

As well as a repository of data, active database can detect the occurrence of events in a database system and react automatically to that event occurrence and execute certain actions either inside or outside the database. This behavior is specified by means of ECA (event-condition-action) rules, i.e., when an event has occurred, if the condition is evaluated to true, then an action is executed. The development of a set of ECA rules involves the knowledge of the database structure and the relationships that can exist among the ECA rules, which may produce an inconsistent state in the database. Therefore, it is so important to verify a rule set before its implementation in the active database, and one method to determine if a rule set will produce consistent states of the database is through the simulation of ECA rule firing. In this paper a simulator for active databases, named ECAPNSim, is described. ECAPNSim uses the definition of ECA rules like a structure of an extended Petri net model, the Conditional Colored Petri Net (CCPN). Conditional Colored Petri Net definition involves the knowledge and execution model, which describe the features that an active database system must have. Furthermore, in order to simulate the occurrence of database events, ECAPNSim has been enhanced with the addition of distribution functions for each place that denote events of the ECA rule set. Keywords ◆ Petri net ◆ Active Database ◆ ECA rules ◆ Simulation ECAPNSim is an interface that generates a CCPN from an ECA rule definition typed in the on-if-then form. It carries out the simulation of the CCPN behavior according to the event occurrence in a random way, which depends on the distribution function assigned. ECAPNSim has been improved with the addition of distribution functions in each place that denote an event occurrence.

They are in a highly competitive world, where there are concurrent forces in the sector (Porter, 2002), in which, every day they should review the market and strategies. Most SMEs disappear in their early years, because they do not have the ability to understand and respond to the challenges of global competitiveness, but as soon as they disappear, other enterprises are also created and that gives a compensation effect, where the learning curve is cyclic.
