To evaluate the pattern of regression of severe sciatica and pain in the low back over 3 months in HIV infected patients in whom monosegmental lumbar macrodiscectomy was performed for lumbar disc herniation. There are very few reported studies, which have been carried out to evaluate the outcome of lumbar discectomy in HIV positive patients. This was a prospective study conducted from January 2004 to December 2006. Patients included were those who knew their HIV serological status before the first consultation. Patients with previous spinal surgery, multilevel lumbar disc herniation, or any neurologic deficit were excluded. The intensity of pain was assessed by the visual analog scale during regular postoperative follow up. Seventy-seven patients suffering from severe sciatica were included; 9 were HIV positive and 68 were HIV negative. In the HIV positive group, the sex ratio was 2:1, and 8 had severe pain in the low back whereas in the HIV negative group, 44 had severe pain in the low back. At 3 months, sciatica relief (VAS <4) was recorded in 66.6% of HIV positive patients and in 70.6% of HIV negative patients. Relief of pain in the low back (VAS <4) was respectively 50.0% and 55.1% in both groups. The pattern of pain regression during the follow-up period was similar in both groups.

They constitute a risk for pollution of the environment and a vector of germ propagation. This study aimed at analyzing the circuit of waste products and their management in the regional hospital of Ngaoundere. This was a descriptive cross-sectional study going from September 1st to November 30th, 2016. 65 personnel participated to the study. 40 % of them were nursing auxiliary. 49% of the participants knew the selection approach of waste products. Waste products were eliminated by incineration in a hole in an archaic manner or by burying or given to family at their request, for elimination. Liquid wastes were discharged in bidets (75.4%) or in sewers (4.6%) or they were led directly to the evacuation system of used waters. ABSTRACT Scalp swellings are rather frequent in perinatal medicine, and are usually indicative of birth trauma. This case report describes a newborn with massive bilateral scalp swellings following spontaneous vaginal delivery. This situation led to severe life-threatening anemia and secondary coagulopathy. The baby was managed with phototherapy, vitamin K, antibiotics and multiple blood trans...

The reduction of maternofetal mortality constitute one of the major challenges of developing countries. To reduce this mortality rate, measures have been taken since June 2011 in the northern regions of Cameroon to initiate the strategy of obstetric kits so as to render the cost of childbirth and caesarean sections reasonable. Objectives. The objective of this design study was to evaluate the impact of the utilization of obstetric kits on mother and child health. Methodology. We carried out a descriptive retrospective study in the regional hospitals of Ngaoundere and Garoua going from June 1st 2008 to May 31st 2014. The study interest was mainly concerned by women who gave birth in the given hospitals of Ngaoundere and Garoua. Results. The utilization of obstetric kits increased the rate of childbirth. Birth rate passed from 27.6% to 72.4% .Therefore, there was a link between delivery kits and the number of childbirth. The number of births was greater during the period...
