The virus has not been known to pass through the placenta and has not been reported in the breastmilk of affected mothers. As the cases are still on a rise, it is expected that the number of pregnant females would also rise in the coming times. Among many queries during pregnancy, to breastfeed or not is an important question that needs to be answered. We conducted this survey to assess the knowledge regarding breastfeeding practices among Indian paediatricians and obstetricians during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online survey was conducted among paediatricians and obstetricians from all over India. Only 294 (54.1%) participants have adequate knowledge regarding breastfeeding recommendations. The gap in knowledge between paediatricians and obstetricians was found statistically significant with a p value of <0.01. Only 30% healthcare providers associated with perinatal care received this information through a seminar. On the other hand, 15% of participants were not aware of any guidelines on breastfeeding during the COVID-19 pandemic. More rigorous dissemination of information on breastfeeding practices in COVID-19 case management needs to be adopted.

Clinical presentation of neonatal pertusis is varied and thus knowing the spectrum of clinical presentation is vital for early diagnosis. Unlike older children, most of the times neonatal pertusis has an atypical presentation and classical presentation is very rare. Here we present such a rare case of neonatal pertusis who presented with classical symptoms of pertusis.

Diagnosis in neonatal period is very difficult and is usually diagnosed when acute pancreatitis sets in. Early diagnosis is important as it can prevent the complications associated with the condition that is acute pancreatitis and pancreatic necrosis. Here we present a case of neonatal hypertriglyceridemia who presented to us with respiratory distress but was diagnosed early due to the presence of highly viscous and milky blood. This holds importance as early treatment can reduce the complications and morbidity associated with familial hypertriglyceridemia.

Various screening tools are there for assessment of nutritional status and this study was done to compare various methods to screen for obesity and overweight in adolescents that can be used during school health check-up.Methods: This study was conducted in the urban schools of Vadodara city. 609 students were included in the study. Results: Maximum students were in the age group of 16-18 year of which 57.9% were males and 42.03 % females. By using BMI, 4.1% students were found to be obese and 12.8% overweight. 10% students had WHR above the cut-off levels. In 11.3% TSFT was above 90th centile. Conclusions: Comparison between the three parameters done using ANNOVA, shows that TSFT is better than BMI in detecting Obesity.

A total of 600 school children were included in the study. 4.0% (24) students were found to be obese while 12.8% (77) were overweight. Results: In this study, boys were more commonly overweight (44 out of 353, 7.3%) than girls (33 out of 247, 5.5%) while obesity prevalence was comparable in both the sexes (11 out of 353 i.e. 1.8% in boys and 13 out of 247 i.e. 2.1% in girls). Conclusions: Pearson’s correlation shows that BMI is significantly related to all the asked dietary habits at 0.05 levels and it is the frequency of having meals outside or skipping breakfast that is important.

Design: Randomized controlled trial. Setting: A tertiary care center of Northern India during 2013-14. Participants: 200 moderate to late preterm neonates randomly allocated to early cord clamping or umbilical cord milking group (100 in each). Intervention: In milking group, 25 cm length of cord was milked towards the baby thrice after separating (within 30 s) it from placenta. Main outcome measures: Hemoglobin and serum ferritin at 6 weeks of age. Results: Mean (SD) serum ferritin [428.9 (217.6) vs. 237.5 (118.6) ng/mL; P< 0.01] and hemoglobin [12.1 (1.5) vs. 10.4 (1.2) gm/dL; P<0.01] at 6 weeks were significantly higher in umbilical cord milking group. In early neonatal period, hemodynamic and hematological parameters were not significantly different. Higher incidence of jaundice with higher phototherapy rates (33% vs. 9%; P<0.01) were noted in umbilical cord milking group. Conclusion: In preterm neonates, umbilical cord milking at birth enhances iron stores at 6 weeks of age. Higher phototherapy rates with this intervention are a matter of concern.
