Foreword background The Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learnin... more Foreword background The Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning aims at the acquisition, circulation, and application of knowledge in the field of regional and minority language education. Regional or minority languages are languages that differ from the official language of the state where they are spoken and that are traditionally used within a given territory by nationals of that state form ing a group numerically smaller than the rest of the state's population. For several years an important means for the Mercator Research Centre to achieve the goal of knowledge acquisition and circulation has been the Regional dossiers series. The success of this series illustrates a need for documents stating briefly the most essential features of the education system of regions with an autochthonous lesser used lan guage. aim Regional dossiers aim at providing a concise description of and basic statistics on minority language education in a specific region of Europe. Aspects that are addressed include features of the education system, recent educational policies, main actors, legal arrangements, and support structures, as well as quantitative aspects, such as the number of schools, teachers, pupils, and financial investments. This kind of information can serve several purposes and can be relevant for different target groups. target group Policymakers, researchers, teachers, students, and journal ists may use the information provided to assess develop ments in European minority language schooling. Neither the Constitution, nor any comprehensive language law stipulates in Hungary the official s... more Neither the Constitution, nor any comprehensive language law stipulates in Hungary the official status of the Hungarian language. The linguistic rights of the 13 recognised minorities are regulated by the Act on the rights of national and ethnic minorities. The level of linguistic assimilation within these communities is rather high; the use of minority languages is almost non-existing in public life. Linguistic minorities have become more active since the change of the political system, and the setting-up of minority self-governments made things move back in gear. The Hungarian State seeks to promote the use of minority languages by developing cultural and educational autonomy and favourable legal conditions as well as by actively supporting minority activities. Rurale (MFR) elnevezésű oktatási intézmény serdülőkorú fiatalok és fiatal felnőttek globális képz... more Rurale (MFR) elnevezésű oktatási intézmény serdülőkorú fiatalok és fiatal felnőttek globális képzését szolgálja, amely az általános képzést a szakképzéssel ötvözi, bekapcsolva a folyamatba a családokat és az egész környezetet is. Mind az alapképzés, mind a felnőttek képzése esetén az MFR partneri kapcsolatot létesít a kistérség fontosabb szereplőivel, a helyi közössé gekkel, a vállalatokkal és a szakmai szervezetekkel. A képzés vidéki térségekben folytatott különféle tevékenységekre irányul: mezőgazdasági és ehhez kapcsoló dó szakmákra, kisipari és kézműves foglalkozásokra, kereskedelemre és szolgál tatásokra. A cél a vidéki fiatalok magasabb szakmai és kulturális színvonalra emelése és társadalmi integrációjuk elősegítése.
