The crucial features of such modified structures are the well-functioning linkages of the square units at their pivot points. This ensures the stable functioning of such structures in tension or compression. The presented geometrical analysis of these auxetic structures may facilitate their adequate construction and allow one to determine the expected values of their expansion as well as the desired porosity. The results are confirmed based on the behaviour of physical models produced by the assembly of square units. The change in the dimensions of the physical models when moving from a closed to an open position is consistent with the predictions of the geometric models. By modifying the well-known ‘rotating squares’ model, physical structures with auxetic properties are obtained that can be utilised in industrial conditions, where a simultaneou...

Data for kinetic analysis of α-Al 2 O 3 crystallization were obtained from quantitative DTA curves. The kinetic parameters were analysed by traditional Kissinger analysis and Friedman and Ozawa-Flynn-Wall methods using the Netzsch Thermokinetics program. Results of the comparison of values of activation energies for all three gels and methods are the process of α-Al 2 O 3 transformation for originally γ-AlOOH/Fe(NO 3) 3 gels goes like that of unseeded boehmite gels, only under lower temperatures (lower about 200°C).

The reaction kinetics for very fine copper oxide particles were studied by thermogravimetry. The Avrami-Erofeev equation was applied to describe kinetic curves obtained within a temperature range of 398-623 K, assuming a three-dimensional growth of nuclei. For a temperature range of 398473 K, the apparent activation energy was 44 kJ/mol, at temperatures above 473 K the apparent activation energy approached almost zero.

In this paper, tubular structures were realized by rolling up planar auxetic structures and using rigid square frames as unit cells. Planar and tubular structures were built from square frames that were 3D printed with plastic or laser-cut from metal. The changes in linear dimensions of the studied structures were based on a hinge mechanism, the functioning of which was experimentally verified on different solutions leading to square unit cells. To connect the square frames of the structure, an innovative solution was used in the form of rotation axes on their surface at a preset distance from the edge of the square frame. The geometric parameter thus introduced was used to determine the relative change in the size of the structure when stretched (i.e., when moving fr...

This paper presents this effect in a failsafe mode in structures made of rigid squares. We applied the concept of auxetic structures made of rigid rotating squares (from Grima and Evans) and offer a novel solution for connecting them. By introducing axes of rotation on the surface of the squares, a reliable working system is obtained, free from stress, in which the squares can come into contact with each other and completely cover the surface of the structure, or, in the open position, form regularly arranged pores. Herein, we present a new 2D auxetic metamaterial that is mathematically generated based on a theoretical relationship of the angle between the edges of a square and the position of the axis of rotation. Physical models were generated in the form of a planar structure and in the form of a circular closed structure. Such physical models confirmed our initial cons...

The geometric model and the resulting relationships that allow for the determination of Poisson’s ratio are considered in detail. It is demonstrated that changing the rotation axis position does not affect the negative Poisson’s ratio, equal to -1. The models built confirm the initial considerations and can offer new application possibilities.

Only y-Na,CoO, (0.55 5 x 5 0.74) was reported to possess large thermopower and studied in detail. Despite the corresponding stoichiometry of y-, a'-Na..CoOl and y-, P-Na,CoO2, respectively, no phase transition has been reported for y-Na,Co02 while investigating its thermoelectric properties. This aspect motivated our study of the thermophysical behavior of y-Na,Co02 by means of TCIDTA, DSC, XRD and SEMIEDX. No phase transition is detected in air up to 1100 "C. In contrast, the decomposition of y-Na,CoO, under Ar is accompanied by the formation of aand a'-Na,Co02. Samples with various contents of a-, a'- and .y:Na.,CoO, have been prepared by heat treatment of y.Na,CoO: employing different temperatures and sinterinx atmospheres, namely Ar, air and 02. The paper presents influence of different source of initial oxide powders (micro/nano powders of Y2O3 and Al2O3) and the method of their homogenization on the formation of a YAP phase. The solid state reaction method was used to prepare YAP powder or ceramic pellets. After preheating, all samples in the form of powders and pellets were heat-treated in the temperature range of 1050-1650 °C. DTA method was applied for examination of the phase crystallization in the tested system. X-ray diffraction method (XRD) was used for characterization of the phase composition. X-ray microanalysis (EDS) was used to control homogeneity in the small areas. Morphology of the resultant samples are presented on SEM pictures. The results show a significant influence of the starting powders on the homogeneity, purity and temperat...

Four different phases of the nonstoichiometric oxide are known: /spl alpha/-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ (0.9/spl les/x/spl les/1), /spl alpha/'-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ (x= 0.75), /spl beta/-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ (0.55/spl les/ x /spl les/ 0.6) and /spl gamma/-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ (0.55/spl les/ x /spl les/0.74) depending on composition and reaction temperature, but only /spl gamma/-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ was studied in detail. The stepwise phase transition of /spl gamma/-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ to /spl alpha/-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ via /spl alpha/'-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ in Ar atmosphere and also the influence of the crystal structure on the thermoelectric properties have been reported before. While /spl alpha/- and /spl alpha/'-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ possess higher thermopower the electrical conductivity is much lower than the one of g-Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/. In order to investigate the influence of doping on the thermoelectric properties of Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ we expanded our studies on the alloyed oxides Na/sub x/Co/sub 1-y/Pb/sub y/O/sub 2/ (y = 0.01, 0.02, 0.05). An improved crystallinity of the Pb substituted samples and an overall enhancement of the thermoelectric properties were observed. The composition Na/sub x/Co/sub 0.95/Pb/sub 0.05/O/sub 2/ was studied in detail. The effect of partial substitution of Co by Pb on the microstructure, thermophysical behavior and thermoelectric properties of Na/sub x/CoO/sub 2/ will be discussed here.

The bulk route is determined by large-scale processing. After an axial or isostatic pressing of the fine-grained powder composed of BSCCO, Y-123 and Nd-123, the material was sintered/textured and annealed in special programs. Then the characterization of the materials and a measurement of magnetic fields was done with the help of a specially constructed measuring apparatus with Hall- and SQUID-sensors. The objective of the thick film route was to get large, coated superconducting work pieces of YBCO and BSCCO (plates or cylinders) with current density of >1000 kA/cm 2 (and/or a shielding effect of >1 mT). Thick films were made by plasma spraying and paste technology. Substrates used were ZrO 2 , MgO, SrTiO 3 , BaZrO 3 and others. In some cases the work pieces were treated with laser radiation. After laser and thermal treatment the surface was more dense, the cracks were cured and the current density was increased by more than two times.
