These children, often exhibit impaired social skills such as poor communication, lack of cooperation, and diminished empathy, which may hinder their academic progress. Despite existing studies, there is limited empirical research specifically linking domestic violence with social behaviour and learning performance among pre-school children in Lagos State. This study aimed to bridge this gap by examining the influence of domestic violence on the development of social skills and its subsequent impact on academic outcomes. A quantitative research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised caregivers and parents of pre-school children in public Early Childhood Education Care Centres across three purposively selected Local Government Areas (Agege, Ojo, and Badagry) in Lagos State. A purposive sampling method was used to select nine public pre-schools, with 72 respondents participating. Data were collected using a self-designed questionnaire, the Domestic Violence and Social Behaviour Questionnaire (DVSBQ), validated through face and content validation, and achieving a reliability coefficient of 0.78. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyze the data. The findings revealed significant negative effects of domestic violence on children’s social behaviour and learning performance, underscoring the urgent need for intervention strategies. The study concludes that collaborative efforts among educators, policymakers, and caregivers are essential to break the cycle of violence and its impact on future generations. The study recommends that government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) should organize educational programs for parents to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of domestic violence on children’s social and academic development.

Utilizing a descriptive research design, the study involved 40 caregivers from 10 purposively selected public early childhood education care centres in Ojo Local Government Area. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, the "Domestic Violence and Children Social Skills Development Questionnaire (DVCSSDQ)," which demonstrated reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.821. Descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were employed to analyze the data. Findings indicate that caregivers perceive the extent to which domestic violence affects children's social skills development as moderate. Key mechanisms identified include difficulties in regulating emotions and behaviors in social situations at daycare centres and a lack of empathy. Furthermore, a significant and moderate relationship was found between exposure to domestic violence and specific social skills deficits in children attending these centres. The study underscores the need for targeted interventions to mitigate the impact of domestic violence on children's social development, emphasizing the crucial role of early childhood education care centres in providing a supportive environment for affected children. The study recommends that there is need to implement training programs for caregivers in early childhood education care centres in Lagos State on recognizing and responding to signs of children affected by domestic violence. Also the researcher recommended that there is need to offer counseling services for both children and families affected by domestic violence in order to address the underlying issues that may be contributing to social skills deficits in children.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of climate change on the availability and quality of physical fitness facilities in Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, Lagos. To achieve this aim, a cross-sectional survey design was adopted for the research, involving a population of both staff and students at the university. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select a representative sample of 200 respondents. Data collection was facilitated through a self-administered questionnaire titled "Climate Change, Availability, and Quality of Physical Fitness Facilities Questionnaire" (CCAQPFFQ). The questionnaire underwent content and face validation to ensure its relevance and clarity, and a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.785 confirmed the instrument's reliability. Descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages, were employed to summarize the data, while inferential statistics using the Chi-square test were applied to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study reveal that climate change significantly affects both the availability and quality of physical fitness facilities at the university. The deteriorating quality of equipment, combined with increased facility unavailability due to extreme weather events, underscores the urgent need for climate-resilient infrastructure. The study concludes that addressing the effects of climate change on these facilities is critical for the sustainability of fitness programmes within the university. The study recommends that there is need for improvement of the durability and maintenance of physical fitness facilities. Also, the researcher recommended that there is need to advocate for climate-adaptive designs and regular upkeep to mitigate the impact of climate change on the university's infrastructure.

A descriptive survey research design and random sampling method were used, with 120 respondents from five preschools. The study found a significant relationship between play materials and the academic performance of pupils. The study suggests that preschool children's cognitive development tends to lie dormant, and if they lack opportunities to play, their meta-cognition capacity may diminish. The study recommends government agencies and preschool managers to adopt professional practice and focus on play as a basic instructional strategy.

Resolving Conflict between Theory and Practice on Issues in Early Childhood and Primary Education., 2022
I feel honoured to be invited here on this auspicious day to deliver the keynote address at the f... more I feel honoured to be invited here on this auspicious day to deliver the keynote address at the first Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education Studies’ Conference, at the Lagos State University of Education, Otto/Ijanikin, Lagos.
It is not out of place that this conference is coming up at this time for educators, practitioners, policy makers, other professionals, stakeholders (parents) and students to gather to brainstorm on “Resolving conflict between theory and practice on issues in early childhood and primary ed-ucation” programmes in Nigeria.
The conference's theme is appropriate given that Nigeria is currently working on a roadmap for one of these levels of education, early childhood education, as part of the Federal Government's efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4:2, which states that "By 2030... all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education." Three phases of implementation were envisaged by Nigeria. The second phase, which spans the years 2020 to 2026, is the longest and is centered on scaling up and implementing, or fully establishing the institutions needed to oversee the implementation of objectives and policies.
Permit me to sincerely congratulate the Dean of the Faculty of Education, the Head of Department and the Chair of the Local organising Committee (LoC) for putting this together to generate and gather information about this important theme which will be very handy in the implementation and provision of quality early childhood and primary education programmes for Nigerian children.
I encourage education managers to seize this unique opportunity to utilise the information and evidences we shall gather during this conference to place early childhood and primary education on the desired pedestal.
The main theme of this conference is “Resolving conflict between theory and practice on issues in early childhood and primary education”. The keynote address will be more of provocation to us. I believe this will prompt us to actions as soon as the conference is over, in our relevant areas of influence as childhood educators, policy makers, development partners, non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations, community leaders, religious leaders, teachers, students and all other stakeholders.

It assessed parents' perception of child abuse in the state and determined the influence of parents' demographic factors on their perception of child abuse in the study area. Using a descriptive survey research design, all parents in the study area formed the population. The sample of 1500 parents were randomly selected across the state through multistage procedure. The 'Parental Perception of Child Abuse Questionnaire' was used to collect data for the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency, percentage and regression analysis. The results of the study showed that different forms of child abuse occur at mean scores above 2.00 in various homes in the study area and that parents varies in their perception of child abuse as 50.3% perceived the acts as abuse and 49.7% regarded them as discipline/training measure respectively. There was also a significant influence of parents' socio-demographic factors (gender, age, educational background and occupation) on their perception of child abuse in the study area (F = 8.848, p < 0.05). Based on these findings, the study concluded that child abuse is still a menace in the study area which may hamper holistic development of children and it is recommended that a massive awareness programme on child abuse for parents be carried out in Osun State.

FOWOWE, SIMEON SUNDAY, ON THE OCCASION OF ITS FIRST ROUNDTABLE CONFERENCE, HELD BETWEEN 1ST – 3RD NOVEMBER, 2018 @ ECO EVENT CENTRE MOKOLA B/STOP, EGBEDA LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA. Protocols, _____________________ _____________________ _____________________ Teaching is a challenging and rewarding profession and one of the few careers you can choose where you really can make a big difference to someone’s life – a difference that will stay with them forever. The first teacher to make a difference in my life was, Mrs. Oyedola, late now. She was a primary school teacher who taught me to read when others had failed. Where, I actually wonder, would I be now, if she had not been there to make a difference? At every level of your appointment as a teacher, be it-Nursery, Primary, Secondary or higher institutions, the concept of teaching for tomorrow should be your watchword. The children we teach today are the adults who will be determining our future and it is our responsibility to enable them make informed choices and to be in control of the technology they will use. Needless to remind the teachers that, the ideas we discuss with a class of children TODAY, may be modified in the future by new approaches or discoveries. We can not second-guess the future for the children we teach, but we can try to take an imaginative approach in our teaching and keep ourselves informed about how the present situation is changing. The life we live on this earth has never been static. As humans, we have always known and experienced CHANGES. Still, we have always adjusted to or adopted by changes. If changes have always been with us then, it is imperative as an ASSOCIATION to predict the likely classroom and school dynamics that our children may likely encounter. The changes today are occurring at break-neck speed which are profoundly affecting fundamental changes in our schools, the way teachers behave and teach, the way learners read and talk, the way questions are set and answered and the way schools assess, evaluate and even collect schools fees. ANPEIN roundtable conference this year 2018 therefore, presents a contemporary issue in our educational system – Designing the classroom of the future: issues, prospects and considerations, for three (3) days, where critical review of what becomes the future classroom of our nation will be discussed with a view to charting a future course that would align with best international practices. Day one will be for formal opening and keynote directions followed by presentation of other lead papers with a robust critique of all the presentations. Day 2 will continue with the roundtable on lessons on best practices from across the Boarders etc. Day 3, continues with roundtable and visits to idea schools to see, if available, all the components of future classroom and schools being discussed here. Same day, the communiqué and adoption of it will be done. Thereafter, certificate of attendance will be distributed to the participants. Apart from the keynote and lead papers, all other operations are going to be different from orthodox paper presentation style but instead, will focus on mainly a series of interactive roundtables followed by syndicate sessions for in-depth exploration of selected burning issues on the subject matter of the conference. May I challenge the participants to have the following as their focal points of expectation amongst others things being envisaged. The dynamics of our school/classroom: • Digital pedagogical tools for 21st century teachers/learner • Identification and remediation of special needs children. • How to establish schools in the current dispensation • Debt recovery mechanism in the 21st century • Parental roles in the current dispensation. • The status of Primary six and SS 3 classes in the current dispensation • Professional development of teachers and school administrators, etc. At this juncture, I will like to give a brief to the establishment of ANPEIN for those willing to join. ANPEIN was established in 2016 to build a working relationship and network with the leading academics, international partners, NGOs, science and ICT professionals and exemplary classroom researchers that are willing to support professional caregivers, teachers and lecturers in discharging their duties in terms of teaching, researches about child’s education and protection. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS 1) ANPEIN believes that the equation is simple for the rights of the children to be guaranteed and that education is the most basic insurance against poverty, ignorance and stagnancy. Learners are the art work, while the teachers are the artists and the process of moulding is the teaching and learning process, and the strategies and methods used are the materials. Therefore, classroom is a studio where learning and smooth transition from home to the larger society is promoted. No doubt too, there are a lot of pedagogical activities that can make or mar children which are carried out in the classroom irrespective of its level and this compendium chronicles the ABC of teaching the subjects in both primary and secondary schools.
Studies in the various subject areas and levels of education have established that, several factors are responsible for the poor performance of students in the various subjects and at all levels of education. But, at the base of all, is one glaring fact, the quality of teaching in each of these subjects and at the various levels of education system leaves much to be desired.
It is against this background that, many authors address, the causes, the factors and solutions to the poor performance of students in the various subjects at different levels of our education system. Most importantly, there are some chapters that address the better way to teach and the best way to make teaching more rewarding in our classroom. The import of this effort resolve is to explain how to make our learners, more successful in the various subject they offer at different levels of school system.
The expert/professionals have taken pains to research wide in order to apply the available resources at their disposal to address the major issues of how best learner can learn.
The essence of teaching is learning. If students don’t learn, invariably, teachers have not taught. No doubt, the essence of sending students to school is to learn and learn the application of putting what they have learnt into practice. Interestingly now, this product is for you, the classroom practitioners, read it, digest it and use it. Read those other subject metholodogies and strategies apart from your, because some of them contain materials that are relevant to you.
Finally, with our experience in the practice of education and teaching in particular, we are of the opinion that, teachers at all levels of our school system, should prioritise what can make students learn and learn very well.
May your enterprise thrive in this profession.
TOXIC STRESS ON CHILDREN, 2020
Effective interventions in early childhood provide critical opportunities to prevent undesirable ... more Effective interventions in early childhood provide critical opportunities to prevent undesirable outcomes and generate large economic returns for society. Everyday challenges bring along different forms of stress to children. Although, a dosage of stress is necessary to build resilience, stress can also be toxic when it becomes too extreme or goes on for an extended period affecting negatively not only childhood but also adult lives. It not only shapes their emotional lives as adults, but also affects their physical health and longevity. Toxic stress weakens the architecture of the developing brain, and may lead to lifelong problems in learning that invariably shows in poor school performance, learning disorders, truancy, alcohol, drug use and behavioural problems. Learning to successfully cope with stress is an important part of growing up. The roles of significant adults in the life of children especially in childhood cannot be over emphasised. The love, care, comfort displayed by adults and given to children when faced with stressful situations serves as a buffer to help them adjust and cope with the situation. It was recommended that parents should learn how to have healthier relationships with each other and care for themselves to reduce the rates of domestic violence and divorce, which have great impact on the children's stress level. In addition, school environment should encourage positive teacher-child relationship whereby children feel safe and secure and are able to relate without fear.

Lassa fever is a viral haemorrhagic fever transmitted by rats. Although, it has been known since the 1950s, but the virus was not identified until 1969, when two missionary nurses died as a result of it in the town of Lassa, Borno State where it was first reported in Nigeria. Subsequently, the worst outbreak was recorded in 2012 where 623 cases including 70 deaths were reported from 19 out of the 36 states of Nigeria. Found predominantly in West Africa with its name being derived from the village of Lassa where it was first documented, lassa fever has the potential to cause tens of thousands of deaths. Even after recovery, the virus remains in body fluids, including breast milk of nursing mothers. The purpose of this study is to establish the varied transmission processes of Lassa fever depending on location, environment and individual physiological differences among nursing mothers in the selected area of study. This study was set to assess the transmission dynamism of lassa fever on nursing mothers in selected communities within Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State. Self structured Questionnaires were administered to two hundred respondents in selected communities in the Local Government Area. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS version. On the whole, it was observed that Lassa fever can be passed between nursing mothers and their babies through the breast feeding. It was observed that the transmission dynamism of lassa fever and the mechanism of action of antiviral drug; ribavirin on the nursing mothers incredibly varied depending on individuals related factors like individual earlier knowledge of the disease, hygiene, sterilization and protective standards with physiological differences. It was concluded that there is a need for further health education campaigns to improved environmental hygiene and a modification of practices that promote the spread of Lassa fever. The study recommended more clinical research on vaccine and drugs that can be used to fight against lassa fever.

Education represents opportunity to survive, live a meaningful life. At all ages, it empowers people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to shape a better children. 2) The basic goal of the association for Nursery and Primary Education instructors (ANPEIN) is Research, the application & implementation of research findings regarding children in…

Clean water, availability of toilets and good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and development of children. This paper examines the impact of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH )on the nutrition of children, the effect on child’s health and the best practices. It therefore recommends that local, state and national bodies’ capacity to develop and implement equitable and sensitive WASH policies, strategies and guidelines should be strengthened.

Classrooms are designated physical plants within the school programme that are structured for the purpose of teaching and learning. Classrooms are essentially the major space for instructional activities and as such, its construction is modified from space to space, from school to school and from time to time to accommodate choice and specific learning activities and to ensure that classrooms meet the need of learners and teachers.
The conventional classroom operates with teachers and learners on face to face arrangement and in the same place, topics are usually conceptual, broad, programmatic and/or integrated, while observations, interaction and comprehension by learner’s are usually subjective. Teaching and learning involve interactive and constructive activities to an extent that none of the two can be self-reliant, the relationship can be commensal or symbiotic but can never be nothing short of.
Classrooms embellish instructional designs to create and organize pedagogical scenarios for improvement of knowledge, skills and values in the teaching and learning process.
In contemporary schools, classroom facilities, space, sitting arrangement, real materials, written/printed materials, designed materials, audio-visual materials, lighting, sound effects, other appurtenances and their management are under constant improvement to support effective teaching delivery and learning capabilities. While in modern time, the integration of technologies that can be used to promote speed, efficiency and sense of appeal are germane.
Therefore, the operations in our school system can never be static. Its dynamism is what this JNPEIN Vol. 1(1) covers.
The various contributors have made their imprints for readership based on their exposure, experience and inclinations. I commend you all
Avail yourself the opportunity to go through the Journal and practice the content.

The purpose of this work was to do an evaluative study of the Freedom of Information Act and its implications of records, privacy and Information Security Management in Nigeria. The research study examined relatively recent publications in books, journals articles and unpublished thesis relevant to the study. They were collected, organised and analysed critically. To this end, the findings were that the FOIA has the potency to engender effective freedom of information and accessibility to records while guaranteeing the privacy of personnel and third party ensuring safer information security management where transparency thrives. But Freedom of Information Act 2011 can only function effectively when some anti-public laws are either expunged or amended. The study concluded that the success of implementation of the FOIA is the co-responsibility of both the government (“supply side”) and the governed (“demand-side”) and noted that FOIA is a catalyst for freedom with responsibility and good governance, fairness, accuracy, balance and objectivity. The researcher suggested that more campaigns need to be done to increase the level of awareness of the public about Freedom of Information Act. The media as a core partner should increase public awareness and understanding of the Act. It recommended that the Federal government and its agencies should take steps to ensure that necessary regulations or procedure are put in place for the effective implementation of the Act.
Key words: Freedom of Information, Records, Privacy, Information Security Management, Nigeria.

The production of Single - Cell Protein (SCP) using the effluent from a local garri processor as substrate has been undertaken in a batch fermentation at temperature ranging between 25 - 32°C and PH of 4.6 - 4.8. Various fermentation runs were undertaken and parameters such as the specific growth (μ) the generation time (tg) and protein content of the SCP produced were determined.
The parameters obtained revealed that with variation in the concentration of the micronutrients in the medium preparation, there were differences in growth patterns and in the lag time of each fermentation run, specific growth rate (μ) of the three fermentation runs A, B and C were O.0571hr-l, O.0689hr-l, and O.1143hr-l, whilst the corresponding generation times were 12.1392hr, 10.0618hr and 6.0643hr. The result of the protein content showed that the medium constituent determine the protein content of the yeast and they are 55.63% for run A, 51.45% for run B and 48.3% for run C.

The latest law by Lagos State government, to make every Wednesday a vernacular day in her schools is a welcome development as it will promote a deliberate use of Yoruba language and the implementation of the long-awaited provision of use of the indigenous languages in the National Policy on education, Section 1(8) item G which is reproduced here: “Every child shall be taught in the mother tongue or language of the immediate community for the first four years of basic education in addition, it is expected that every child shall learn one Nigerian language. (NPE, 2013)
The authors are of the opinion, that for the proposals in this text to be achieved, Government must do what it is mandated in the same policy document “Section 2 No 16 item J – Ensure development of orthography of more Nigerian languages; and produce textbooks. Supplementary readers and other instructional materials in Nigeria languages. (NPE, 2013)
The highlightsinthe text includes- major indigenous languages, minority, non-majority Nigeria dialects, history of English language, errors usually commonly used by elites cited, selected Poems, Rhymes, Folktales, etc were actually picked from some texts which were (referenced appropriately) and from personal experience of the authors.
Hope the facts, figures and dates quoted in the text will be useful for those who are willing to learn their mother tongue. It is a wake-up call to those who are highly indigenous and desirous to learn their mother tongues.
BRING BACK THE PRIMARY SIX EDUCATION IN NIGERIA, 2019
It is no longer news that the Nigeria education sector is faced with challenges which emanated fr... more It is no longer news that the Nigeria education sector is faced with challenges which emanated from negligence in policy implementation especially the PRIMARY EDUCATION SYSTEM which unfortunately is the foundation and bedrock of all further education in life.
One thing has remained a big challenge of humans from time past till date, the scarcity of people who can take charge, courageously speak and stand for what is good and profitable for all”especially at this time when educational malpractice has become a norm in the society. This book written by a concerned Scholar cum the National President of National association of Nursery and Primary Education Instructors in Nigeria ( ANPEIN), is timely and specifically written to address the root causes of the nationwide epidemic educational issue which sensitizes the general public, create awareness and explore ways through which such epidemic issue can be curtailed.
The book also makes comparison between primary 5 & 6 curriculum and reveals that a great difference exist.
The children these days, struggle in secondary schools and in life generally, as a result of this malpractice. The psychological trauma and effect of this practice extends throughout life of these children.
Here is a true-life narration of a victim of this unethical practice to substantiate the argument:
I left in primary 5. Up till now, with the knowledge I have today, I struggle through life at every level. Because I was moved when I was not ready! I was exceptional, yes! But it didn’t help me. I had to do an analysis a lot later in life to see why some things happened to be academically, emotionally, and psychologically. It went back to my foundation after all.
Bring Back Primary 6 Movement (BBP6M) intends to create awareness on the benefits of pupils completing full 6-year programme of primary education and proclaim the detriments of doing otherwise with the aims to:
i. encourage parents and school owners to ensure pupils below primary 6 are not graduated or moved from primary school to be admitted into secondary school.
ii. encourage government authorities to enforce this motive
iii. make schools and corporate organizations buy the idea and enforce this movement in their operations
iv. encourage schools to raise matured children for all-round success in secondary school and beyond.
v. build a nation of emotionally, intellectually and morally competent minds that will make a difference in leadership and character.
These will be achieved through provision of information regularly on the subject via different platforms and encouraging schools to make Primary 6 a very active and functional class thereby fulfilling the TRANSITIONAL purpose of the level beyond academics.
To fully implement the Primary Education System of 6-3-3-4 Policy, the practitioners need to take responsibility. We need to fight the menace, do it right, to get it right. If we get it right in the sector, no workforce will ever dictate the age of entry into organizations or anybody dares to bend or change the rule. The system can only be cleaned when things are done rightly.
So we advocate for its implementation by
