Bu on parametre su kalitesinin Büyük Menderes Nehri'nde düşük olduğuna işaret etmektedir. Su kalitesi, Büyük Menderes, Su ürünleri, Kirlilik, Nehir To estimate water quality of the Büyük Menderes River's physical (current, temperature, pH), chemical (Dissoved oxygen, un-ionized ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, alkalinity, total hardness, sulfate), organic (total organic matters, BOD; KOD), inorganic (calsium, magnesium, sodium, bor) and bacteriological (total coliform) parameters were investigated. These teen parameters pointed that water quality was low in the Büyük Menderes River. Unionized ammonia-nitrojen (NH-N) value was the highest in Sarayköy (2.7 mg/L), total coliform reached 280,000 EMS/100 ml in Sarayköy. Total hardness was seen the highest in Sarayköy (993 mg/L CaCO) and Nazilli (831 mg/L CaCO). Calsium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg)

Silver molly (230 ± 25 mg and 24.07 ± 5.59 mm) were exposed to 150, 200, and 250 mg l-1 tricaine concentrations at 20, 25, and 30°C. Even though, a body of literature exist about the anaesthetic usage on foodfish species, not much information seems to be available on ornamental fish aquaculture. In the experiment, three tricaine methanesulfonate concentrations for each temperature were used to anaesthetize silver molly and recorded their induction, recovery times and survival. The necessary time to make anaesthesia on fish depended on concentration intensity and water temperature rise. When exposed to any of the concentrations, fish achieved a deep state of anaesthesia with induction times of 0.18-1.63 min and recovered fast in 1.53-2.08 min. To maximize safety and reduce fish mortality and stress, the minimum concentration producing desirable anesthetic effects was 150 mg l-1 at all three temperature.

The first trout farm was established in the 1960s and the first marine cage farm for sea bream and sea bass in 1985. From the beginning of the 1970s to 1999 the number of licensed fish farms increased from two to 1,444. Since 1995, the number of cage farms has grown to 57 and production reached 4,100 tons in 1999. Total aquaculture production grew from 3,075 tons in 1986 to 63,000 tons in 1999. Production is dominated by inland production, mainly of trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), which supplies 60% of the total. From 1995 to 1999, marine production increased from 8,494 tons to 25,230 tons. The major contributors are sea bream (Sparus aurata) and sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Because of the rel- atively high temperatures in the Black Sea, Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), cultured from the late 1980s to 1997, is no longer grown; only rainbow trout (O. mykiss) in floating net cages is produced.
