Research paper thumbnail of Beverage spoilage yeast detection methods and control technologies: A review of Brettanomyces

International journal of food microbiology, Jan 20, 2018

The metabolic activity of the spoilage yeast causes irreparable damage to many liters of final products every year. Therefore, winemakers and cider-house companies suffer a substantial economic impact. Thus, over the years, many detection techniques have been proposed to control the occurrence of spoilage yeast. Out of the many spoilage yeast genera, Brettanomyces is one of the most commonly encountered in the beverage industry. Leveraging its ability to thrive in wine and cider conditions (low pH, high levels of ethanol, and low oxygenation levels), Brettanomyces can proliferate inside beverage production tanks. Moreover, their resultant by products reduce the quality of the beverage. While the beverage industry has made great strides in detecting harmful organisms, gaps remain. Traditional methods such as microscopy, cell plating, gas chromatography-mass spectrom...

Chest and abdomen X-ray showed bowel loops in the left thorasic cavity [Table/Fig-1]. He underwent emergency laparotomy and was found to have herniation of transverse colon into left thorasic cavity through the hiatal defect. The contents were reduced and repair of the hiatal defect done. The colon showed congestion but peristalsis was noted. The patient subsequently developed septicaemia and multiorgan dysfunction and succumbed two days later.

It is currently not possible to provide a semantic solution to their problem primarily due to the non-availability of comprehensive semantic datasets in the domains of information technology. In this work, we have extracted, integrated and curated a linked open dataset (LOD) called LOaD-IT exclusively on this domain from a variety of sources including other LODs such as Freebase and DBPedia, technical documentation such as JavaDocs and others. Further, we have built a technical helpdesk system using a semantic query engine that derives answers from LOaD-IT. Our system demonstrates how productivity of the software engineer can be improved by eliminating the need to read through lengthy technical manuals. We expect LOaD-IT to become more comprehensive in the future and to find other related practical applications.

A configurable VHDL model of a branch predictor unit, composed of a branch direction predictor and a branch target buffer, has been implemented. In order to make informed hardware decisions, different branch predictor configurations are simulated using the open source SimpleScalar simulator and the MiBench benchmark suite. The target architecture is a 7-stage 32-bit MIPS-based pipeline with two instruction fetch stages.

On examination, multiple swellings were found arising from scrotal skin, which were non-tender and firm in consistency. The findings were consistent with a diagnosis of multiple epidermal cysts of scrotum. The patient was advised surgery i.e. complete excision and scrotoplasty, however he refused surgery. He was advised to report in case of infection or other complications, but has not come till date. Fig Multiple epidermal cysts of scrotum. Epidermal cysts are the most common benign epithelial cysts and are generally devoid of malignant potential. These occur commonly in hair-bearing areas mostly on the scalp, also on the face, neck, back and scrotum1. Histologically, cysts are lined by stratified squamous epithelium and contain loosely packed keratin debris and cholesterol. Gold standard treatment for epidermal cyst is complete excision of sac and its contents2. Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis is an important differential diagnosis and can be differentiated on histology.

The effect of the pK a of the added heterocycle on the dry proton conductivities of the blended membranes was evaluated over the temperature range of 40-150°C. These membranes showed nonmonotonous conductivities with respect to temperature, as well as a clear correlation of peak temperature conductivity to the pK a of the heterocycle. We use a theoretical model based on the reaction equilibria between sPEEK's sulfonic acid groups and the basicity of the added heterocycles in order to better understand the mechanistic origins of the observed temperature-conductivity profiles.

Its mechanism helps in maintaining stability. It is a multispecialty robot that can be used for various applications. The use of Rocker-Bogie mechanism helps in maintaining the balance of the robot which is used to travel on an uneven surface, usually called as an All-Terrain Vehicular Robot. The conditions preferably needed for the robot to work are in rough conditions, surfaces such as obstacles and surfaces with uneven travel conditions. The robot consists of an RF module of 2.4 GHz frequency to communicate between the user and the robot, a mobile camera acts as a video transmission device to the user during long-distance operations. The multi-specialty system of an all-terrain vehicle is a prototype which can be implemented easily at a low cost, making it efficient to implement. The major challenge in the working of the robot is its stabilization and balance. The rocker-bogie mechanism makes the robot an All-Te...
