Abstract With developments in technology, the dimensions of air-conditioning systems are becoming... more Abstract With developments in technology, the dimensions of air-conditioning systems are becoming smaller. Small hydraulic-diameter, multiport tubes made of extruded aluminum are used for automotive refrigerant condensers and in process industries. Condensers have been employed for heat transfer using small hydraulic-diameter tubes with rectangular shapes. This chapter investigates the results of experiments in subcooled liquid R-134a and two-phase heat transfer and friction pressure drop for R-134a in small tubes. The tubes had different rectangular ports tested at 1.26 and 2.64 mm hydraulic diameter for single-phase and two-phase flow, respectively. This chapter provides heat transfer data and pressure drop gradients at 8 kW/m 2 heat flux and 40°C for different mass velocities. In addition, data obtained from the experimental study are compared with prediction correlations and numerical analysis. The numerical analysis study was conducted for Tube C by using the ANSYS-Fluent packet program. An artificial neural network was conducted for Tube C using a back-propagation network. Results are compared in the study.

The reason for modifying the turbocharger system into the internal combustion engine, it provides improvement of the engine’s performance, fuel consumption and emissions. When turbocharger application used in engine, the suction air temperature increases in the engine and this cause the emergence of undesirable combustion conditions. To reduce this situation, application of intercooling in vehicle is used. The wear and friction performance of GUR 1020 grade ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW... more The wear and friction performance of GUR 1020 grade ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) polymer was studied in distilled water, HASS (Hank’s balanced salt solution) and several protein lubrication environments. Wear tests were carried out using polymer pin -on AISI 304L stainless steel disc apparatus. Tests conditions were room temperature, 40N, 80N and 120N applied loads and 0.5 m/s sliding speed. For the range of load and speed value of this work, the coefficient of friction and wear rate for UHMWPE polymer decreases with the increase in applied load values. The coefficient of friction is highest and the specific wear rate values is lowest under HASS +HA solution lubricant. The average specific wear rate values for UHMWPE polymer under distilled water and HASS+HA (Hank’s balanced salt solution with Hyaluronic acid) lubrication conditions are in the order of 9x10

In this study, the effects of surface roughness differences of vehicle coating materials (paint, ... more In this study, the effects of surface roughness differences of vehicle coating materials (paint, paste, special applications, etc.) on the aerodynamic drag coefficient were inves-tigated using the finite element method. For this, aerodynamic drag forces and aerody-namic drag coefficients for speeds between 40-150 km/hours were calculated for a 1/20 scale vehicle designed by a package program by defining the body parts and front-rear window parts separately and assigning pre-calculated roughness values suitable in the industry, and the results were presented through graphs and visuals. Using three different paint roughness values (low, medium, and high), and one commonly used Teflon (fluoropolymer) coating, it was observed that the aerodynamic resistance coefficient in-creased with increasing roughness levels. Composite materials were first produced in the form of granules by using a twin-screw extruder. Later, mechanical test samples were molded, in accordance with the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) standards, using an injection molding technique. Mechanical parameters such as tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break, impact strength, flexural strength, and flexural modulus were determined by tensile, impact, and bending tests. Bunun için disk üzerinde pim aşınma düzeneği kullanılmıştır. Pim malzemesi olarak katkısız poli-eter-eter-keton (PEEK) polimeri ile ağırlıkça %20 ve %30 oranında cam elyaf (CE) takviyeli PEEK kompozitleri kullanılmıştır. Karşı disk malzeme olarak ise uzun cam elyaf takviyeli ve kalsiyum karbonat mineral dolgulu doymamış polyester kompozit malzeme kullanılmıştır. Tribolojik deneylerde cam elyaf katkı oranının aşınmaya etkisi incelenmiş aynı zamanda uygulanan basıncın etkisi de araştırılmıştır. Tribolojik testler, oda sıcaklığında 1.77, 3.53 ve 5.30 MPa basınçlar altında ve 30 m/dak kayma hızında oda sıcaklığında gerçekleştirilmiştir. This heat can be recovered and re-used by employing multiple-effect evaporators. In this study, investigation of selection of type of evaporator using some parameters is presented for multiple effect evaporator system. Energy and economical equations are given with a case study for multiple effect evaporator system. As result of calculations, it has been found that about 3.51 of overall economy is obtained according to single evaporator.

This study examined the energy ab-sorbed by the front bumper system and the reaction forces to the cage structure representing the vehicle cabin frame during a full frontal crash against a rigid wall. For this purpose, 25 different crash analyses were conducted using the ANSYS software by changing the sheet thickness values of the bumper beam (t1) and crash boxes-frontal crash rails (t2) that make up the front bumper system. Three different plate materials are selected for the analysis. Nonlinear free vibrations of laminated composite plates are studied in two different boundary conditions. These boundary conditions are free and simply supported. The classical finite element method is used for the analysis. Spring supports stiffness matrix and nonlinear stiffness matrix are developed specifically to analysis. A code of computer program with Matlab is prepared for the calculations. Effect of boundary conditions and material properties are investigated on nonlinear free vibrations of composite plate. The results are graphically presented and discussed.

In this experimental study, pure ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and casting po... more In this experimental study, pure ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and casting polyamide (Casting PA) polymers were used to find the best wear resistant polymer material that can be used in rolling bearing applications. For tribological tests, a wear test device with a pin on the disc and AISI 316L stainless steel material as the counter disc material were used. The wear and friction tests were carried out under three different sliding speeds of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 m/s and under three different loads of 49N, 98N, and 147N. As a result of the data obtained from the study, the highest specific wear rate was obtained in ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene polymer with a sliding speed of 2 m/s and a value of 53x10-6 mm3/Nm under 49N load. The lowest specific wear rate was obtained in the pure casting polyamide polymer with a sliding speed of 1.0 m/s and a value of 4.6x10-6 mm3/Nm under 147N load. In this study, performance of a turbocharged in diesel engine, made of Basak Tractors and Agricultural Machinery Industry and Trade Business in Turkey, is investigated by using the parameters. These parameters are calculated at 2500 rev/min and 370 K value of turbocharger by using Matlab programme. Bunun için disk üzerinde pim aşınma düzeneği kullanılmıştır. Pim malzemesi olarak katkısız poli-eter-eter-keton (PEEK) polimeri ile ağırlıkça %20 ve %30 oranında cam elyaf (CE) takviyeli PEEK kompozitleri kullanılmıştır. Karşı disk malzeme olarak ise uzun cam elyaf takviyeli ve kalsiyum karbonat mineral dolgulu doymamış polyester kompozit malzeme kullanılmıştır. Tribolojik deneylerde cam elyaf katkı oranının aşınmaya etkisi incelenmiş aynı zamanda uygulanan basıncın etkisi de araştırılmıştır. This heat can be recovered and re-used by employing multiple-effect evaporators. In this study, investigation of selection of type of evaporator using some parameters is presented for multiple effect evaporator system. Energy and economical equations are given with a case study for multiple effect evaporator system. As result of calculations, it has been found that about 3.51 of overall economy is obtained according to single evaporator.

Three different plate materials are selected for the analysis. Nonlinear free vibrations of laminated composite plates are studied in two different boundary conditions. These boundary conditions are free and simply supported. The classical finite element method is used for the analysis. Spring supports stiffness matrix and nonlinear stiffness matrix are developed specifically to analysis. A code of computer program with Matlab is prepared for the calculations. Effect of boundary conditions and material properties are investigated on nonlinear free vibrations of composite plate. The results are graphically presented and discussed.

For tribological tests, a wear test device with a pin on the disc and AISI 316L stainless steel material as the counter disc material were used. The wear and friction tests were carried out under three different sliding speeds of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 m/s and under three different loads of 49N, 98N, and 147N. As a result of the data obtained from the study, the highest specific wear rate was obtained in ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene polymer with a sliding speed of 2 m/s and a value of 53x10-6 mm3/Nm under 49N load. The lowest specific wear rate was obtained in the pure casting polyamide polymer with a sliding speed of 1.0 m/s and a value of 4.6x10-6 mm3/Nm under 147N load. These parameters are calculated at 2500 rev/min and 370 K value of turbocharger by using Matlab programme.
