The topology of the filters is based on a single phase voltage source inverter (VSI) with four insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) semiconductor switches. In p-q theory, the compensation current references are generated based on the measurement of load current and the current feedback from the shunt Active Power Filter output is also required. The pulse width modulated (PWM) technique is then used to generate the required gate drive signals to full bridge VSI.Filter inductors are also incorporated in the output to provide sufficient attenuation of high switching ripples caused by the VSI. Also the effectiveness of the proposed strategies is demonstrated through the results and finally proposed systems are implemented with MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

The splitting of Gondwanaland during the Mesozoic led to the gradual rifting of these different cratons over geologic time. In this study, crustal structures are imaged by modeling receiver functions to understand the differences in the nature of the crust that was once part of Precambrian Gondwanaland. On comparing the overall crustal thickness with the age of the cratons, it was found that average bounds of crustal thickness varied from ~33 to 45 km in the Precambrian cratons of different ages, and composition varied from felsic to intermediate (Vp/Vs≈1.65−1.78). Observations of gradational Moho beneath few stations could indicate the possibility of mafic underplating at some point in their history of formation, growth, or evolution. Even if plate tectonics were dominant in the middle to late Archea...

A DNC model can represent complex data sequences and reason about them. However, training a complex DNC with large memory matrices was slow, hence this study focused on improving a DNC model to learn faster and perform bAbi question-answering tasks more accurately. The attempted improvements were to use key-value pairs for memory locations instead of arrays and to obtain a read vector from the memory matrix with a neural network. Evaluation of the improved DNC models on the bAbi dataset showed that their compute time was 13% shorter and their error rate was 6.6% lower. To conclude, the attempted improvements were successful, and the training speed of the key-value memory model also became shorter.

The encryption is performed using fractional Hartley transform (FRHT) in both spatial and frequency domains. Prior to subjecting the plaintext to operations of the conventional 4f system, it is made to undergo Arnold transform (AT) for additional security. The scheme is validated for grayscale amplitude images. In its optical realization, the use of DVFL eliminates the problem of axis-alignment. The parameters of DVFL, and the orders of FRHT in addition to AT order serve as encryption keys. The scheme has been tested for its sensitivity to these parameters. Also, the scheme is evaluated for its robustness against the occlusion and noise attacks. The use of multiple encryption parameters adds to security of the scheme.

Research paper thumbnail of Silent, Slow-Onset Disaster: Weak State Response to Arsenic Poisoning: Case Studies in Assam and West Bengal

Disaster Studies, 2020

It tries to articulate the community’s everyday experiences living with this slow poison and present the mechanisms through which they adapt and cope with the problem of iron- and arsenic-rich water. Following an anthropological approach, the study tries to capture the natural, human, social, manufactured and financial capitals of sustainable development within the cultural context of the communities. The study employed mainly participatory rapid appraisal (PRA) techniques to capture people’s understanding of the toxic impact of groundwater arsenic poisoning on their social lives. In the context of their near-complete dependence on groundwater for their daily consumption and the ‘choicelessness’ in tackling the contamination, the communities were also probed on the ‘ability to pay’ for mitigation technologies. The governments of West Bengal and Assam have been involved in the identification of the affected areas and implementation of medium- and long-term mitigation measures. In keeping with the multi-sectoral synergy espoused in the National Policy on Disaster Management 2009 for disaster mitigation, different educational institutions, scientists, NGOs and INGOs have also come together to raise awareness on the issue. But the state efforts remain grossly inadequate in tackling this slow-onset disaster which has assumed monstrous proportions. Therefore, it is imperative that arsenic contamination is brought under the ambit of disaster management as a slow-onset disaster, and that subsequent institutional and financial arrangements are put in place for its effective mitigation.

The characteristics of converters are extremely wide from Giga samples to a few samples per second for bandwidth and resolution variation from a few bits to more than 20 bits. Delta sigma converters are most commonly used high-resolution A/D converters. In instrumentation and measurement applications, the continuous operation, the large offset and inaccurate gain of delta-sigma does not satisfy the specifications. The incremental converters are also based on delta-sigma architecture but work in transient mode are more adapted.
