The participants of this study were 17 healthy males, 6 of them were left-handers. They performed trials by pushing a wall force plate during walking on a treadmill in three speeds: 1.5, 3, and 4 km/h. The participants were instructed to push at no less than 50% of their maximum static pushing force. Electromyogram (EMG) data was collected bilaterally from tibialis anterior, soleus, lumbar erector spinae and triceps brachii muscles. Time series analysis was normalized into gait cycle which was described as time between heel strike and just before the next heel strike of the same foot and it consisted of 100 data points. To show symmetry, cross-correlation function analysis from the left and right gait cycle variables were compared. Asymmetrical gait cycle period was only observed among right-handers at 3 km/h speed where right gait cycle had longer time than left gait cycle. Pushing force symmetry index was not changed in all of the three speeds in both right-handers and left-handers. Pushing force exertion showed asymmetry in between left and right gait cycle in 4 km/h pushing. The activation pattern of tibialis anterior, soleus and lumbar erector spinae muscles did not show any significant change due to different speeds of manual pushing. However, triceps brachii showed differences due to speeds among left-handers. The better understanding of laterality on manual pushing will help in not only better design of manual pushing tools and tasks but also on its application beyond manual materials handling.

This study discusses the application of universal design (UD) for future urban public transport in Indonesia which will be based on electrically powered autonomous vehicles (AV). The universal design concept of AV coupled with the sharing economy concept will allow the realization of a transport system that is both eco-friendly and user-friendly. The sharing economy will optimize the consumption pattern by preventing the occurrence of excessive usage of resources and underutilized assets. The concept of UD involves seven principles approach which covers equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive use, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort, size and space for approach and use. The design concept illustrates the application of UD and sharing economy through the design of smartphone platform applications, AV fleets, supporting infrastructure tailored for AV operation, and ideation. The applicability of UD and sharing economy in the future urban AV will increase the possibility of its adoption in the public transport system. The concept will define the features necessary for an ideal scenario of the ideation process. Furthermore, accessibility is the key to the UD approach, as the principle will allow not only people with special needs but a wide range of users to use it more easily. The application of this concept, in the end, will induce urban population to use public transport instead of private vehicles that create traffic congestion.

This paper discusses the development of a low cost analog filter circuit of surface electromyography (sEMG) as well as an infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filter. An analog filter circuit with the sallen-key active filter topology is designed base on an analytical filter design and simulation. The digital IIR filter is designed simultaneously with the analog filter by deriving the IIR filter from the resulted analog filter transfer function. Furthermore, an artificial sEMG signal generated from numerical simulation as well as recorded EMG signal from Biopac MP 160 system, the standardized laboratory equipment for physiological data acquisition, is fed to the designed filter to validate the filter reliability. The result shows that the designed digital IIR filter has a better performance compared to the analog filter represented by a quantitative root mean square error (RMSE) value resulted from the two numerical simulation tests.

The issues include road-traffic congestion, pollution and its effects on environmental degradation. To promote the greater utilization of public transport there is an aspect that has largely been neglected, that is the First Mile / Last Mile (FMLM) issue. FMLM influences the choice of transportation modes used. Therefore, in this study we discuss the design direction of an electric bike-sharing (EBS) system that adopts the concept of eco-friendly and sustainable FMLM transport. The study analyzes the relevant advanced case technology, design, and methods so that we can present a design scenario strategy for developing an EBS system with socio-cultural, industrial, and environmental approaches in Indonesia. We reviewed previous cases on sustainable design (SD) values and the feasibility of sharing economy, human-centered design (HCD), appropriate technology design (ATD), universal design (UD), and affordance design (AD). The application of sharing economy on transportation in the form of EBS promises abundant benefits. Indonesia needs to improve the culture of daily sharing of e-bike as a sustainable commuting mode. This preliminary proposal requires future research involving reliable research tools, prototype testing, and user experience examination on the EBS system as an iterative designing process.

One type of driving fatigue is sleep-related fatigue associated with circadian rhythms, such as the phenomenon of a post-lunch dip in performance. In this study, we compared pre- and post-lunch driving performance in a simulated driving task using LCT Sim software. We measured reaction time, subjective sleepiness level (Karolinska Sleepiness Scale/KSS), and eye closure pattern (percentage of eye closure/PERCLOS). Participants were 12 healthy young adult males of morning person type. They performed 60 minutes of driving divided into three 20 minutes periods. From the 20 minutes period, all variables were averaged in every 5 minutes. Statistical analysis employed were Paired T-test, one way ANOVA with repeated measures and Pearson product-moment correlation. The post-lunch session resulted in greater driving fatigue and worse performance compared to pre-lunch as shown by higher KSS and PERCLOS level and longer reaction time. Significant changes of KSS were only observed in pre-lunch session whereas significant changes of reaction time were only observed in post-lunch indicating a different sensitivity of the two variables. PERCLOS, on the other hand, shows significant changes in both pre- and post-lunch. In correlation analysis, the number of data affects the correlation coefficient as insignificances were observed when the group of data was divided into pre- and post-lunch compared to the total data. As such, future study should involve more subjects using additional measurement systems to get reliable data are important for the development of a fatigue detection system.

With the help of the robot, many people assume that the subject's movements are correct to do without seeing the internal condition of the subject's body as a result of using robots. One internal subject body that can be evaluated is by electromyography (EMG) measurement. In this study, an EMG evaluation was carried out during the use of a stroke rehabilitation robot manipulator where the EMG signal was measured using MYO Armband. The evaluation was done by comparing the RMS values of EMG signals when doing shoulder flexion-extension without and with robots. Comparison of RMS values shows an increase in force given when using a robot but there is no statistically significant pattern (t-test with p>0.05). Also seen also from the existing IMU output on MYO Armband, that the movement with the robot gives a pattern that is less smooth because of the correction of the movement provided by the robot.

The previous studies provide information on the brief history of the exoskeleton for gait rehabilitation as well as the various structural, mechanical, and control designs of exoskeletons. Based on the references, we design a simple lower limb exoskeleton and formulate the prototyping and testing plan, from CAD modeling, followed by 3D printing of the model, mockup testing, until prototyping and the clinical test of the prototype. This article describes the preliminary stage of exoskeleton design especially the design process and the results in the form of exoskeleton conceptual design and scale model 1:2. The scale model improves the efficacy of the design study.
