Research paper thumbnail of Novel manganese(II)-based deep eutectic solvents: Synthesis and physical properties analysis

In current study, two distinguished approaches were used to synthesize potential DESs, given as the direct heating and the evaporating methods. Successful synthesized DESs were subjected for physical properties characterization by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, thermal stability, viscosity, and conductivity analyses. Five novel manganese (II)-based DESs were successfully synthesized as reported in this study. Data obtained indicated that the MnCl2•4H2O•acetamide DES exhibits the lowest freezing point (27.5 °C), highest thermal stability (193 °C point of dehydration), lowest viscosity (ŋ = 112.8 cP) and the highest conductivity (0.12723 mS cm−1). The findings obtained reveal the characteristics, nature or features of synthesised DESs as potential industrial solvents.

Research paper thumbnail of Production of biodiesel from mixed waste vegetable oils using Ferric hydrogen sulphate as an effective reusable heterogeneous solid acid catalyst

Applied Catalysis A: General, 2013

Biodiesel production by simultaneous esterification and transesterification of waste oil with met... more Biodiesel production by simultaneous esterification and transesterification of waste oil with methanol has been studied in a heterogeneous system using solid ferric hydrogen sulphate [Fe (HSO4)3] acid catalyst. The catalyst was prepared by displacement reaction followed by calcination at 400 °C for 3 h. The prepared catalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), Brunner-Emmett-Teller surface area measurement (BET), thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA) and temperature-programmed desorption of NH3 (TPD-NH3). Furthermore, the dependence of the conversion of mixed waste oil on the reactions variables such as the molar ratio of methanol/oil, the amount of catalysts used, reaction temperatures, reusability were also investigated. The catalyst was reused many times with slight loss in activity and the maximum yield of 94.5% was achieved at the optimized conditions of reaction temperature of 205 °C; stirring speed of 350 rpm, 1:15 molar ratio of oil to alcohol and 1% w/w catalyst loading.

Molecules, 2014

The properties of DES were measured at temperatures between 303 K and 333 K for HBD percentages of 66.7% to 90%. The effects of HBDs under different temperature and percentages are systematically analyzed. As expected, the measured density and viscosity of the studied DESs decreased with an increase in temperature, while ionic conductivity increases with temperature. In general, DESs made of TBABr and glycerol showed the highest density and viscosity and the lowest ionic conductivity when compared to other DESs. The presence of an extra hydroxyl group on glycerol in a DES affected the properties of the DES.

Due to increasing population growth, the consumption and needs of energy increase significantly. ... more Due to increasing population growth, the consumption and needs of energy increase significantly. This leads Indonesia government to search alternative energy to cover the lacks of fossil energy reserves. Biodiesel is one of the prospective alternative energy which are renewable and environmental friendly. A common problem in large-scale biodiesel production is the sustainability of feedstock and the biodiesel stability. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the production of biodiesel from two oil sources i.e. waste cooking oil and castor oil. This study examined the effect of mixed oil ratio on yield, biodiesel characteristics and stability. The physical properties included kinematic viscosity, acid number, saponification number, iodine number and cetane number have been evaluated as function of oil ratio. Yield of biodiesel was obtained at 35.07%, 99.2% and 83.69% for jatropha:castor oil ratio of 1: 0, 1: 2 and 2: 1, respectively. Most of these characteristics showed an increase by increasing the oil ratio. The result concluded that at the ratio of 1:1(v/v) was the best characteristic and stability.

The incorporation of Zr in the layer have been confirmed by various analytical methods such as powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), chemical analysis, UV-Vis diffusereflectance (UV-Vis DR) spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. These Zr containing HT-like materials show very interesting properties as catalyst in the liquid phase hydroxylation of phenol to selectively catechol.
