Research paper thumbnail of Management of Comminuted Fractures of Lower Extremity with Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis

Journal of Evolution of medical and Dental Sciences, 2015

Results of conservative management and ORIF by traditional methods are associated with number of complications. This study evaluate the role of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis in management of such fractures. Seventeen (17) multi fragmentary fractures of long bones of lower extremity (in 15 patients) were treated in the present prospective study using the technique of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). There were 11 cases of supracondylar fracture femur, two intra articular, 3 cases of proximal tibial fractures, 2 cases of tibial shaft fractures and 1 cases of subtrochanteric fracture. Mean age of the patients was 45.6 years with 13 male and 2 female patients. Most fractures were caused by high velocity road traffic accidents. Average injury surgery interval was 8.64 days. Average operative time was 67.35 minutes. Average period of union was 19.17 weeks and average ...

Following distal forearm fracture, proximal humeral fracture is the second most common upper extremity fracture. Kirschner (K)-Wires, external fixation, tension band wiring, and rush pins, intramedullary nails, ORIF with plates, and shoulder hemiarthroplasty have all been offered as therapeutic options. The purpose of this study was to assess the functional outcome and complication rates following internal fixation of proximal humerus fractures using a locking compression plate. Patients over the age of 18 with closed proximal humerus fractures or open proximal humerus fractures (Gustilo and Anderson type I, Type II) received open reduction and internal fixation with locking compression plate in the current study. The participants in this study were 60 people who had a proximal humerus fracture and were treated with open reduction and a proximal humerus locking compression plate. Patients ranged in age from 20 t...

Research paper thumbnail of Roentgenographic and computerized tomography based morphometric analysis of cervical spinal canal diameters to establish normative measurements in an Indian population

Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma, 2017

Compressive cervical myelopathy secondary to degenerative changes in the cervical spine is a comm... more Compressive cervical myelopathy secondary to degenerative changes in the cervical spine is a common cause of neurologic morbidity in the elderly. Identification of canal stenosis and addressing it surgically in addition to the obvious compressive lesions is essential to obtain satisfactory results. We attempt to define the saggital and transverse diameters in a normal adult population presenting at our centre with head injuries. We found that the values were lower than those reported in comparable studies for a western population, and also that the dimensions in women are significantly lower than in men.

Research paper thumbnail of A rare medley: concurrent ipsilateral femur head and neck fracture without hip dislocation

Journal of Surgical Case Reports, 2016

Simultaneous post-traumatic ipsilateral fracture of femur head and subcapital femur neck without ... more Simultaneous post-traumatic ipsilateral fracture of femur head and subcapital femur neck without hip dislocation is a rare presentation and easily missed on X-ray imaging. A 48 years old male, with a history of high-energy road traffic accident, presented to us with severe pain in the left hip region and inability to ambulate. Preliminary X-ray showed impacted subcapital fracture with varus angulation between femur head and neck. Further computed tomography (CT) scan imaging showed ipsilateral fracture of femur head and subcapital femur neck without hip dislocation. Primary total hip arthroplasty was performed. Presently patient is 5 years post-surgery and can ambulate without support. In conclusion, this fracture pattern, though rare, should be suspected in high-energy road traffic accident patients with shear forces acting at femur neck. It can best be diagnosed using 3D CT scan imaging. Primary total hip arthroplasty is an appropriate treatment in such patients.
