Research paper thumbnail of Neuromuscular Exercises Improve Shoulder Function More Than Standard Care Exercises in Patients With a Traumatic Anterior Shoulder Dislocation: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of physical therapist–supervised, shoulder instability neuromuscular exercise (SINEX) versus self-managed, home-based, standard care shoulder exercise (HOMEX) in patients with traumatic ASDs. The hypothesis was that SINEX would have a larger effect and fewer adverse events compared with HOMEX. Study Design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 2. Methods: A total of 56 participants with radiographically verified, trauma-initiated primary or recurrent ASDs and self-reported decreased shoulder function were randomized to 12 weeks of either SINEX or HOMEX. The SINEX program consisted of 7 exercises, individually progressing from basic (2 × 20 repetitions each day) to elite (2 × 10 repetitions, 3...

Generally, women presenting at conferences are underrepresented in various science disciplines. We aimed to evaluate the gender of presenters at research-oriented chiropractic conferences from 2010 to 2019. Methods We investigated the gender of presenters at conferences hosted by chiropractic organisations from 2010 to 2019 that utilised an abstract submission process. Gender classification was performed by two independent reviewers. The gender distribution of presenters over the ten-year period was analysed with linear regression. The association of conference factors with the gender distribution of presenters was also assessed with linear regression, including the gender of organising committees and abstract peer reviewers, and the geographic region whe...

Research paper thumbnail of Effectiveness of Physical Therapy– and Occupational Therapy–Based Rehabilitation in People Who Have Glioma and Are Undergoing Active Anticancer Treatment: Single-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

Physical Therapy, 2020

Objective This study assesses the effectiveness of a physical therapy– and occupational therapy–based rehabilitation intervention compared with usual rehabilitation care for quality of life (QoL) during active anticancer treatment. Design This study was a randomized controlled trial. Setting The study took place in Odense University Hospital, Denmark. Participants The trial included people with gliomas who were functionally independent. Intervention The participants were randomly assigned to a supervised rehabilitation intervention or usual rehabilitation care during the active anticancer period. The supervised rehabilitation included physical therapy and occupational therapy-based interventions. Measurements The primary outcome was the between-group difference in the overall QoL from baseline to the 6-week follow-up. It was self-rated ...

An estimated number of three million cleaners makes professional cleaning one of the most common ... more An estimated number of three million cleaners makes professional cleaning one of the most common occupations in the European Union (EU). Persons employed in occupational cleaning report a high number of work related musculoskeletal disorders and bad health in general 1 . The literature on cleaners has during the last 20 years showed that cleaning work is characterized by repetitive muscular work of the upper extremities at high levels of dynamic and static force as well as standing and walking during most of the working day. Such working conditions may represent a biomechanical and physiological overload for the different structures and segments of the body and may lead to impaired work ability, sickness absence and early retirement.
