ABSTRACT Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of three binary mixtures was measured with a s... more ABSTRACT Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of three binary mixtures was measured with a static total pressure apparatus: dimethylsulfide +ethanol at 350.4K, +dimethylether at 336.7K, +methylacetate at 350.3 K. The Barker method was used to convert the total pressure and total composition measurements into vapor-liquid equilibrium data. Legendre polynomial and Wilson model were used as the liquid activity coefficient model to obtain the compositions of the vapor and liquid phases. All systems exhibited positive deviation from Raoult's law. The dimethylsulfide + ethanol system showed azeotropic behavior (x(1az) = 0.058, T-az = 350.4 K, P-az = 341.9 kPa).

ABSTRACT The isothermal vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) of binary systems of methoxymethane (dimet... more ABSTRACT The isothermal vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) of binary systems of methoxymethane (dimethylether, DME) + thiophene, DME + 2-methylpropane-2-thiol, and DME + diethylsulfide was measured with a static total pressure apparatus. Barker’s method was used to obtain phase equilibrium data from the total pressure measurements. Additionally 5 VLE data points of the binary system of 1-hexene + 1-propanethiol were measured with a glass recirculation still. The system reacted partly during the VLE measurements to form a sulfide at thiol mole fractions higher than x(1-propanethiol) = 0.1. The formation of the sulfide was verified by gas chromatographic analysis. The measured nonreacted points at low thiol concentration showed that the system 1-hexene + 1-propanethiol exhibited azeotropic behavior.
