Urban transport integration is intended to improve the functioning of public transport and, thus, is an activity that significantly contributes to the quality of transport services within cities. Transport integration may include solutions provided by urban public transport, as well as solutions based on the integration of public transport with individual transport modes. This article presents a comprehensive approach to the integration of urban transport. Exemplary tools integrating urban transport, along with examples of modelling in software for traffic microsimulation, are shown.

The main aim of multicriteria analysis is the choice of the most desirable solution from among alternative variants according to different criteria which are difficult to compare against one another. There are several multicriteria methods for assessment of urban public transport system development and operation, e.g. AHP, ANP, Electre, Promethee, Oreste. The paper presents an application of one of the most popular variant ranking methods – Electre III method. It is also necessary to consider the conflicting interests and different participants’ point of view (point of view of the city authorities, urban public transport operators, units managing public transport, passengers and other road users). Nowadays, multicriteria decision aid methods (MCDA) are often used to solve complex, multifaceted decision problems. There are many types of multicriteria decision aid methods. The most popular classification includes three groups: methods based on multiatribute utility theory, methods based on the autranking relation and interactive methods. The article presents the characteristics and comparision of two methods used for ranking variants: Promethee method based on autranking relation and AH Pmethod based on multiatribute utility function. As an example these methods ...

This paper discusses bikesharing systems and their accessibility. The paper presents the results of an accessibility evaluation of the planned bikesharing system in Jaworzno (Poland). The variants of system development were evaluated using Multiple Criteria Decision Aid (MCDA) and QGIS software. With these methods, various evaluation criteria were covered related to system accessibility, including for people in various age groups, concerning accessibility of traffic generators and system integration with public transportation. The analyses resulted in a ranking of variants of system development, from the best to the worst in terms of the reviewed criteria.

This methodology allows considering several conflicting objectives and performing the evaluation process in a comprehensive manner. This approach also corresponds to the holistic philosophy: different aspects (economic, technical, social etc.) and interest groups – stakeholders (operators, passengers, city government etc.). The MCDA/MCDM methodology is specifically customized to the real life case study – urban public transportation system in the city of Cracow (Poland). A family of 10 criteria is proposed to evaluate several solutions (W) for a UPTS in terms of their usefulness and attractiveness for different stakeholders. These criteria take into account: travel time and standard, effectiveness of the fleet use, environment friendliness, the level of integration and rel...

The selected criteria account for different evaluation aspects (social, technical, functional, environmental, and economic ones). The final ranking of the interchanges from best to worst allows making conclusions related to assessed elements of interchanges, which should be improved to make interchanges friendlier to the passengers. The proposed interchange assessment method allows the identification of the weakest elements of the assessed interchanges, which require improvement in order to make the interchanges friendlier for passengers, with a view to increasing the number of passengers and boosting passengers’ willingness to use the interchanges.

The corridor in question is 15 km long and runs through the centre of Wrocław, Poland. The analysis focused on six alternative scenarios. The following elements were taken into consideration in their design: alternative means of land transport; different types of vehicles and priorities for public transportation; location of bus and tram stops. The individual solutions were assessed based on six criteria designed to measure different aspects of the problem with the use of two alternative mCDm methods: electre III/Iv and ahP. Computational experiments established the final ranking of transport solutions in the corridor from best to worst in terms of the analysed criteria.

The article presents the problems and the importance of integration of public transport on the basis of Polish and EU documents relating to public transport, as well as gives examples of solutions that integrate urban public transport in Poland and worldwide. Public transport is a special kind of transport designed for fulfilling needs of city (communal) in range of urban and suburban transport of inhabitants. The main task of public transport is to enable the mobility of people with retaining the same conditions which are given by passengers. Issues concerning the public transport development (improvement in quality of public transport services in the all necessity and essence of its integration) are bringing up in many important Polish documents (e.g. State Transport Policy) and EU (e.g. White Paper, Green Paper). An example concern the solution of urban public transport integration in the country and world can be quoted of some solutions: implementation of the uniform ta...

However, it is worth asking: is creating such a transport system possible, does it exclude certain social groups, and is it capable of satisfying the needs of all users? More and more modern planners and transportation engineers are facing this dilemma. According to many scientific publications, universal design is the answer, hence shaping public spaces and the transport systems with awareness of the diversity of the human collectivity in terms of sex, age, physical ability and health condition. Elderly people above 60 years of age and the disabled, who have various types of mental, physical and sensory dysfunctions, are at the greatest risk of social exclusion. These g...

In this paper basic definitions related to old age and population ageing were presented. Predictions of population growth in several dozen of years in different world regions were described in detail. Predictions taking the elderly people into account were emphasized. Based on available data, demographic changes in chosen EU countries were compared. In addition statistic data related to population in Poland and increase in the number of elderly people in several Polish regions were presented. The growth of elderly people in population influences many aspects of urban life. Statistic research shows that most of elderly people, despite of good mental fitness, meet some restrictions, that make their life in cities more difficult, especially including travelling and achieving basic travel purposes. Thus it is necessary to get knowledge on basic elderly people’s needs, as it allows to design cities which are ...
