New products are mainly obtained by production of knowledge at universities and by transformation of this knowledge into new technology. Several interfaces (suitable instruments) have been developed in Turkey in order to transform the knowledge that is produced at universities into technology that can be used by the industry. The most important element of this interface is the academician who is the link between university and industry. While there are several factors encouraging academicians to participate in R&D projects through these interfaces, there are other factors preventing them from doing so. In other words, some interface models facilitate university-industry cooperation, some others have serious disadvantages. This study aims to determine the advantages and disadvantages of various university-industry cooperation interfaces from the perspective of academicians. To evaluate the interfaces, a field survey with academicians was conducted using questionnaires. The perceived positive/negative aspects of the cooperation interfaces have been summarized and assessed based on the responses.

A simple and practical algorithm for the surgical treatment of hand deformities in EB was employed by the authors where the deformities of each digit in EB patients was categorized according to pseudosyndactyly and interphalangeal joint contracture severity for guidance during the surgical treatment. The current study retrospectively reviewed the medical records and photographic data of 13 EB patients followed in our department, for whom a systematic approach to the management and treatment was used. Mild cases were treated by surgical release and secondary healing with non-adhesive dressing while moderate cases were treated with autologous dermal grafts harvested with a special technique that were fixed on denuded areas on the proximal interphalageal joints after release. The goal of reconstruction is to restore the prehensile abilities of the thumb, while achieving acceptable appearance and minimizing morbidity at the donor site. We report the case of a 21-year-old man who had second toe-to-thumb reconstruction after post-traumatic amputation of his left thumb at the metacarpophalangeal level. Before the accident, he played a musical string instrument, the "Saz", regularly. The traditional method of playing the Saz is to pluck the strings with the fingers of the right hand and pick the strings with the thumb and fingers of the left hand. Three months after the operation, he was playing the saz again, proving that he had sufficient strength in opposition, adduction, and flexion force in the transferred toe.

They are typically described as soft, painless, slowgrowing masses which can be misdiagnosed as a benign entity [1, 2]. Hemangiopericytoma usually arises in the deep soft tissues of the lower extremities, axilla, pelvic fossa, retroperitoneum, and head and neck [3]. Cutaneous hemangiopericytomas are rare except for infantile hemangiopericytomas [4]. The occurrence of hemangiopericytoma in the skin has been reported in not more than 20 cases [5]. In this study, we present two cases of scalp located cutaneous hemangiopericytomas.

Can we support the normal anatomy by preserving and transposing the adjacent tissues? In this study we hypothesize that during rhinoplasty, cartilage flaps can give adequate support and may decrease the need for cartilage grafts. Included in this study were 147 patients who underwent an open rhinoplasty technique under general anesthesia between January 2010 and May 2012. Mean operative time was 73 min (range=44-120 min). After dissection and septoplasty (if needed), we performed dorsal bone and septal reductions. Following reduction, upper lateral cartilage superior segments were preserved and turned inward as cartilage flaps to replace the spreader grafts. Lower lateral cartilage cranial parts were not excised and were slid over the caudal part to replace the alar strut grafts. Cartilage from the caudal nasal septum was not excised; instead, lower lateral cartilages were cephaloposteriorly displaced with a tongue-in-groove technique to support the nasal tip. Mean follow-up time was 19.6 months (6-30 months). All patients but 12 were satisfied or completely satisfied with the results. Among the 12 unsatisfied patients, four complained of a one-sided inverted-V deformity (secondary spreader grafts were added), three had supratip deformity (secondary additional dorsal septal excisions), two demanded extra tip definition (secondary tipoplasty), two were unhappy with the bone symmetry (secondary osteotomies), and one complained of hanging columella (secondary excision from the caudal septum). Cartilage flaps have some advantages over cartilage grafts. First, graft harvest is not needed in the former; second, because flaps are a part of the normal anatomy, they provide a good tissue match, making fixation easier. However, the tongue-in-groove technique cannot be used in patients who do not need caudal excision, and cartilage flaps can be inadequate in some patients who may need additional grafts. Among the US female population, approximately 8.6 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2010, and a large percentage involved the face. 1 The face is the primary focal point of social interaction in everyday life and, therefore, any perception that a feature is unappealing may result in the urge to change it. Moreover, visual media have a tremendous effect on selfperception and influence women to choose aesthetic procedures; they wish to look more trendy, youthful, or "beautiful" according to the media's definitions. 2 Aesthetic surgery patients differ from other surgical patients in that they usually present to the clinic with an established idea to undergo surgery and with certain expectations of the outcome; also, for other patients, the surgery usually is recommended by their doctor rather than being elective. Certain motivations influence a patient's decision to undergo facial aesthetic procedures, yet the process behind the motivation remains unclear. The most basic and effective self-evaluation tool for the face is, undoubtedly, the ordinary mirror. Therefore, it can be assumed that a woman's dissatisfaction with her appearance relates to her own perception of the reflection in the mirror.

Methods: The study consisted of preoperative and postoperative lateral cephalograms of 42 class III adult patients. The study sample was divided into 2 groups, with the first group composed of 22 patients who underwent MA surgery and the second group composed of 20 patients who underwent MAI surgery. In total, 7 skeletal parameters and 17 soft-tissue parameters related to nasal projection, hump, dorsal convexity, and the nasolabial region were evaluated on the cephalograms, and hard-and soft-tissue relationships were assessed. Results: Nasal length, hump, nasal depths, distance from the most convex point of the Alar curvature to the most inferior point of the nostril, alar curvature-subnasale, and subnasale-pronasale measurements decreased postoperatively. In the MAI group, MA correlated with significant decreases in nasal length and hump. In the MA group, MA correlated with pronasale position (P G 0.05); significant decreases in nasal depth, columella convexity, and subnasalepronasale length; and significant changes in subnasale position. Conclusions: There is little difference in the effects of the 2 different maxillary surgeries on the postoperative nasal profile.

Attempted excision of the lesion resulted in an open wound requiring soft-tissue reconstruction of the scalp. Results of pathologic examination showed metastatic HCC. The patient returned postoperatively with bleeding, which was unable to be controlled, resulting in his death. Scalp metastases from HCC are very rare but must be considered when treating a patient with known cirrhosis, hepatitis, or HCC.
