It shows that Nigeria's reaction to the pandemic exhibits important issues related to lack of capacity to fund growing COVID-19 public health emergency expenditures and welfare policies arising from shrinking fiscal space. The study highlights some fundamental problems of limited COVID-19 testing capacity, shortage in medical equipments and logistics such as ventilators, personal protective equipment etc., and links these problems to the increase in the number of newly infected cases. Also, there are poor welfare policies and lack of effective economic stimulus measures to cushion the economic effects of the pandemic on the people. Hence, there is need for home-grown economic diversification approaches targeted at deepening and strengthening the Nigeria's fiscal base necessary to putting to a stop the ravaging impacts of COVID-19 in the country.

However, rural dwellers have remained worse off, hunger pervading and few known infrastructures eroding rapidly. Correspondingly, the crime rate has surged, as a miserable outcome of non sources of livelihood. Therefore, this paper seeks to evaluate the impact of poverty alleviation schemes on poverty reduction in rural communities in Nigeria. method of data collection for this study is descriptive survey. This was in a bid to bridge the infrastructural gap in the state and to actualize the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially as it affects the development of a global partnership for poverty reduction through provision of basic infrastructures. Despite policy efforts made towards this direction, decadence in the state's health system, education, road network, electric power generation and distribution, housing, industries, among others, has been on increase. In the light of this, the study interrogated poor governance, insecurity and public sector reforms in Nigeria, using public-private partnership policy and infrastructural development in Abia state as a reference point. In doing this, the study relied substantially on the core assumptions of Systems theory, documentary method of da...

It relies essentially on primary data drawn from participant observation and 53 key participant interviews conducted across 16 electoral wards in Southeastern Nigeria during the 2019 election. The study reveals some logistical problems involved in the hiring of public transport services (‘town service’ buses) to convey electoral materials in Nigeria such as poor ethical conduct among public transporters/drivers, lack of effective mobilization of drivers, poor compliance with road safety standards, breach of contract agreement, ineffective information sharing on the flow of election materials, and complicity in electoral malpractices. Also, poor road networks result in random breakdowns of hired ‘town service’ buses. Local politicians leverage these gaps to meddle in election logistics which orchestrate electoral fraud. The study sheds light on the need to streamline ...

In doing this, the paper relied substantially on documentary method of data collection, content analysis and core assumptions of the Marxist theory of the post-colonial state. Thus, the paper implicated primitive capital accumulation underlying capital budget implementation in the power sector in Nigeria as a defining element of the lacuna and contradictions in the procurement reforms and capital budget investments in the sector. The penchant in actualizing the avowed covert and overt interests by the custodians of the state in Nigeria explained the logic of the successive Federal Executives’ interference in the procurement procedures of the power sector and poor developments and expansion in the electric power generation infrastructures in the...
