Methods The flow-cell system comprised chambers for biofilm cultivation with S. mutans under continuous hydrodynamic conditions containing BHI supplemented with 1% sucrose (w/v). Biofilms were divided into six groups ( n = 6): C (control), P (photosensitizer + β-cyclodextrin), L (laser), LED (light-emitting diode), LP (laser + photosensitizer + β-cyclodextrin), and LEDP (LED + photosensitizer + β-cyclodextrin). Groups irradiated with laser were exposed to a low power light ( λ = 660 nm, 320 J/cm 2 , 0.1 W, 9 J, 90 s). Groups irradiated with LEDs were exposed to 12 LEDs ( λ = 660 nm, 8.1 J/cm 2 , 0.09 W/cm 2 , and 8.1 J for 90 s). The antibacterial potential of treatments was assessed by viable S. mutans counts of biofilm in selective medium. The vitality of intact biofilms was qualitatively evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy analysis (CLSM). The data were analyzed by Welch’s one-way ANOVA followed by Scheffe´s post-hoc tests ( p < 0.05). Results No reductions in the number of S. mutans for C, P, L, and LED groups were found ( p > 0.05). The number of S. mutans was significantly reduced in LP and LEDP groups ( p < 0.05) and LP had the lowest microbial numbers ( p < 0.05). Conclusion PACT protocol was effective in reducing S. mutans in the dynamic biofilm model tested using laser or LED. Furthermore, laser as a light source presented a better performance than LED.

These teeth are asymptomatic and may cause the delayed eruption of the permanent dentition, altered bone growth and ectopic positioning. This paper reports a case of the surgical removal of supernumerary teeth in the anterior region of the maxilla of a child under general anesthesia in a hospital setting. A six-year-old female patient visited a private dental office in the city of Garanhuns, Brazil, accompanied by her mother, who reported a tooth with a "strange shape" in the anterior region as the main complaint and also reported that her daughter's first dental experience was negative. The clinical examination and imaging tests were performed under general anesthesia to confirm the diagnosis. In view of the patient's dental and behavioral history, surgical treatment was performed in a hospital setting and assisted by a multidisciplinary team. Care in the hospital setting was found to be feasible, providing greater comfort for uncooperative patients.

The reading (24 h and 48 h) was done by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone: the larger the inhibition zone diameter, the greater the susceptibility of bacteria to antimicrobial substance. Results: Values for elastic modulus (E) and flexural strength (FS) at 24 h of the 0.8% concentration GO-ZrO 2 presented the higher values, but after 1 month of storage this concentration showed the lower values of all. For the two bacteria tested the composites with graphene loaded presented inhibition of growth for all concentration. Also, by the wells method it may notice a higher antibacterial activity and especially for the GZ2 against E. coli (12 mm) and GS2 against S. aureus (13 mm). The largest diameter of bacterial inhibition zone (14 mm) was obtained by the paper disc method for GS1, GS2 against S. aureus and GZ2 against E. coli. Conclusions: The bacterial inhibition assay revealed that exist an antibacterial activity for all samples, but most good activity is against S. aureus bacteria for composites with GO-SiO 2 graphene. Values flexural strength after 1 month of storage was lower.

The aim of this in vitro experimental study was to compare the disinfection of the root canal system of primary teeth with manual, rotary and photodynamic therapy systems. Methods: Forty-eight canals of primary molar teeth were infected with a suspension of Enterococcus faecalis and divided into four groups (n = 12): group G1, composed of canals prepared with manual H-type files from the Angelus® system via the crown-down technique; group G2, treated with the Sequence of Baby Files™ rotary system by the pecking motion technique; group G3, using the G2 treatment + photodynamic therapy, with methylene blue as photosensitizer at a concentration of 0.005%, irradiated with a 660 nm diode laser for 100 seconds, 100 mW power, 10 J energy and 357 J/cm² fluence; and group G4 (n...

The results showed that the material and surface influenced the wettability and regardless of the sealant, the enamel etching increases wettability and sealant adaption to enamel structure.

So, the purpose of this systematic review was to determine the clinical evidence of partial carious removal in primary teeth as to longevity of restorer treatment and clinical and radiographic success. The PRISMA guidelines were followed. We searched in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scielo, BBO and LILACS databases. There were no language restrictions and time limitation and the last survey was conducted in February 2016. The terms used were "partial caries removal" and "primary teeth". The analysis was limited to clinical studies about partial carious removal in the primary teeth. After title, abstract and full versions reading, the data were extracted and the studies were subjected to the evaluation of risk of bias according to predetermined criteria of ...
