The anatomical variations are a chapter of major importance in the practice of human macroscopy d... more The anatomical variations are a chapter of major importance in the practice of human macroscopy due to their high clinical and surgical implications. Many of these variations, in all body segments, are biological atavisms or phylogenetic remnants and result from narrow osteofibrous formations in association with neurovascular structures-in part of their pathways. In the skull, due to its structural and developmental complexities, one notices several foraminal formations, complete or incomplete, which originate, in great part, from idiopathic calcifications of ligaments or fibrous laminae in the exocranium as well as in the endocranium. These foramen, sometimes denominated canals, are formed from ossifications or calcifications of ligaments and are intimately related to neurovascular structures, causing, on the one hand, compressive neuropathies and, on the other hand, making surgical access difficult. Thus, we indicate as relevant the following variant foramina in their completely ossified presentations: petrosphenoidal, pterygoalar, pterygospinous, caroticoclinoid, and interclinoid. The petrosphenoidal foramen (or the Dorello's canal) is a generally osteofibrous formation delimited by the superior petrosphenoidal ligament (or the Gruber's ligament) between the apex of the petrous part of the temporal bone (petrous tubercle) and the occipital clivus. Therefore, connecting the posterior and middle cranial fossae. The superior petroesphenoidal ligament constitutes one of the limits of the inferomedial paraclival triangle and can ossify to varying degrees, forming a completely osseous passage in rare cases (figures 01 and 02). The petrosphenoidal foramen is responsible for the transition of structures-the abducens nerve, the inferior petrosal sinus, and the dorsal meningeal branch of the meningohypophyseal trunk. Historically, what justifies the eponym, is considered the first description of the foramen by the Italian anatomist Primo Dorello (1872-1963) in the work "Considerazioni sopra la causa della paralisi transitoria dell'abducente nelle flogosi dell'orecchio medio" [1]. The foramen pterigoalar (porus crotaphitico-buccinatorius or the foramen of Hyrtl) is a resistant osteofibrous formation and, evolutionarily, atavistic. Thus, the foramen is formed, in part, by the homonymous ligament of the skull base-the pterygoalar ligament. However, this ligament can, to varying degrees, and for unknown reasons, be ossified and, when completely mineralized, becomes a relatively dense bony bar (Figures 03 and 04) that interposes between the foramen ovale and the infratemporal fossa. This complicates the course of mandibular nerve branches and extracranial surgical access to the foramen ovale and the parapharyngeal

By proximity with areas of relevance for diagnosis and surgery, such as access pathways to the parapharyngeal and retropharyngeal spaces, it is necessary to be aware of these conditions due to the difficulties generated in surgical maneuvers and the promotion of compressive syndromes of mandibular nerve branches. Many AEs occur due to a lack of anatomical knowledge and its variants. Latrogenic bile duct injuries, for instance, represent a serious surgical complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Anatomical knowledge for the identification and adequate drainage of all ducts is relevant and fundamental in order to avoid future errors. The objective of the study was to morphometrically analyze the bile ducts in adult human corpses. 13 livers were extracted from adult human corpses to obtain the ducts: choledochal, common hepatic and cystic. After morphological analysis, duct measurements (length and diameter) were continued using a digital caliper. The data obtained were tabulated in SPSS 21 program, performing descriptive analysis with mean and standard deviation. The averages of bile ducts were 61.05 (± 16.43) mm in length and 3.86 (± 0.72) mm in diameter. The cystic duct length and diameter averages were 33.59 (± 12.29) mm and 3.40 (± 0.79) mm, respectively. The common hepatic ducts had an average of 30.02 (± 7.19) mm in length and 3.74 (± 1.18) mm in diameter. The analyzedsamples presented different values ??from those already described in the literature, where the length of the cystic ducts was greater, while the length of the common hepatic ducts was numerically smaller. This work is very significant, as the morphometric variability of the bile ducts allows for varying morphological situations that can compromise the hepatobiliar physiology.

Scientific studies confirm that mindfulness leads to better performance, health and well-being. However, these cognitive efficiency modulating factors are nonspecific, can be difficult to control, and are not suitable to specifically facilitate neural processing. OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects of tDCS associated with Neurofeedback on declarative memory and cerebral blood flow in university students. METHODS In this work, we will use Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), a low-cost physical resource, easy to apply and few adverse effects, associated with a Neurofeedback resource. This, in turn, has been shown to be a training program capable of improving working memory function. The arterial variations of the abdomen, mainly the visceral, are a chapter apart from the descriptive anatomy and are highly complex. The arterial variant this article consisted of the origin of the right colic artery from the right branch of the middle colic artery. This led us, at first, to consider, by misinterpretation of this distribution architecture, as a common arterial trunk between the middle colic artery and the right colic artery. Thus, considering the various interpretations and their possible intercurrences in surgical procedures associated with this type of finding, we concluded the need for comprehensive studies that can more accurately assess the variations associated with the right colic artery and massify the terminologies related to it.

The results were analyzed statistically using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test. Results: The number of FoxP3+ lymphocytes in OTSCCs tended to be higher in older patients (P = .055). Analysis of OTSCCs in males and in early clinical stages disclosed a higher number of Treg cells in older patients compared with young patients (P < .05). In older patients, the number of Treg cells tended to be higher in smaller tumors (P = .079). Tumors with intense inflammatory infiltrate exhibited a larger number of Treg cells, both in young (P = .099) and older patients (P = .005). Conclusions: The results suggest a greater participation of Treg cells in immunoinflammatory responses in the microenvironment of OTSCCs in older patients, particularly in males and in early stages.

Benznidazole (BZ), the only drug available in Brazil, presents serious side effects and low therapeutic efficacy, especially at the chronic phase. The last clinical trials demonstrated that the first generation of azole compounds were less successful than BZ in CD chemotherapy, which stimulated studies of these compounds associated to BZ and nifurtimox (NF). This study evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of BZ, itraconazole (ITZ) and their combination (BZ+ITZ) in dogs infected with the VL-10 T. cruzi strain in the acute phase of the disease. Twenty young mongrel dogs were inoculated with 2.0 × 10 3 blood trypomastigotes/kg and divided into four groups: treated with BZ, ITZ and BZ+ITZ for 60 days, and control group (INT). The parasitemia of the BZ+ITZ and BZ groups were similar and showed significant reduction compared to the INT group. The group treated with ITZ also showed significant parasitemia reduction compared to the INT group. The global analysis of hemoculture (HC), blood PCR, conventional serology (CS-ELISA), heart qPCR and histopathology techniques, used in the post-treatment evaluation, revealed that BZ+ITZ combination lead to a more reduction of parasitemia during the acute phase and heart qPCR positivity, less cardiac damage (inflammation and fibrosis in the left ventricle) and total survival. According to the classical cure criteria one animal treated with BZ+ITZ can be considered cured in its final evaluation and two other dogs, one of this group and one treated with ITZ were in process of cure. At least for BZ-resistant T.

EAN is a rare lesion affecting the oral mucosa and, to date, only three cases have been reported in the English-language literature. We report the second EAN case affecting the gingival mucosa of a 69-year-old female patient. Oral examination revealed an asymptomatic, well-defined nodule exhibiting a smooth and erythematous surface, measuring 0.8 cm in greater diameter. The lesion was fully excised and histopathological study showed a mucosal epithelioid proliferation with solid and organoid growth patterns, and vascular lumens scattered focally throughout the lesion. The large epithelioid cells showed intracytoplasmic vacuoles and vesicular nuclei with prominent nucleoli, surrounding by scarce extravasated erythrocytes. Immunohistochemistry showed positivity for vimentin, ␣-SMA, CD34, focally for D2-40, and Ki-67 was 15%. Noteworthy, numerous immune cells (HLA-DR+/CD68+/CD163+/FXIIIa +) scattered throughout the lesion, were detected. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report, which highlights the immune cell population, with M2-like phenotype, as an important component of EAN, suggesting the participation on their etiopathogenic mechanisms.

They can be subdivided on the basis of etiology into congenital and acquired fistulae. The latter may be caused by closed or penetrating traumas, or may be iatrogenic injuries. We report on a case of a young adult female gunshot wound victim treated with emergency laparotomy who developed asymmetrical edema of the lower limbs during the late postoperative period. Imaging exams showed the presence of a left internal iliac AVF, treated using endovascular surgery with placement of a covered stent, resulting in total occlusion of arteriovenous communication.

An imaginological examination revealed superficial bone resorption. By microscopy, typical features of Gingival cyst of the adult (GCA) were observed. However, in the lesional area there are no teeth and consequently periodontium. Thus, the clinicopathological correlation favored a diagnosis of alveolar cyst of the adult, counterpart of the GCA but on the edentulous maxilla or mandible.
