Inappropriate interventions often lead to educational hardships despite students having educational prowess to achieve scholastically. This article addresses how school counselors, driven by the components of the American School Counselor Association’s ASCA National Model and ASCA Ethical Standards, can serve as advocates for Black males with dyslexia by championing evidence-based multitiered systems of support designed to provide ethically sound assessments and placements.

History purports that African Americans are more likely to rely on the elders of their churches and their own spiritual beliefs, rather than seek support from mental health professionals. Due to past and present experiences with institutionalized racism in America, Black church leadership and their members have been apprehensive to collaborate with mental health agencies. This article explores how clergy of Black churches and leaders in mental health agencies may collaborate to provide culturally sensitive services for African Americans.

This article integrates the role of advocacy and leadership into the lives of children experiencing disruption due to high-conflict divorce. With this said, advocacy is a part of the PSC job description, although not specifically explained for this unique issue. Up to half of all marriages end in divorce, affecting nearly a million children each year, therefore PSC‟s serve students facing challenges of divorce every day (Henry & Mitcham-Smith, 2008). We proffer that PSCs need to have awareness, knowledge, and skills relevant to advocating for these children who are, through no fault of their own, caught in the auspices of the Family Court system and high-conflict divorce.

In comparison, the art of storytelling has had little attention within the literature as a tool for strategic change.
