Specifically, this optimization problem seeks to minimize the waiting times of the incoming container vessels to serve, the costs derived from the movement of containers around the terminal, and the time the containers are at the terminal. This optimization problem is solved by means of an Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search, which uses a dynamic parameter to destroy part of the solutions while a building method is designed to later rebuild them. The computational performance of this technique is assessed over a wide range of realistic scenarios. The results indicate its high efficiency and effectiveness, reporting high-quality solutions in all the cases within short computational times.

After visiting three tourist spaces, 1,958 tourists were surveyed. Three scales were used: (1) perceived restorative capacity of tourist environments; (2) perceived crowding; and (3) satisfaction, enjoyment and intention to recommend. The results showed that the perception of restorative capacity is intensely related to satisfaction measurements. In all three tourist spaces, satisfaction decreases as perceived restorative capacity drops. Likewise, the perception of crowding shows an inverse relationship with satisfaction; tourists who had a strong sense of being disturbed over the number of people at the site had lower levels of satisfaction, enjoyment and intention to recommend. The results show the important role played by perceived restorative capacity and the perception of crowding on tourist satisfaction and the...

One way to achieve energy savings in buildings is to develop intelligent control strategies for heating systems that are able to reduce power consumption without affecting the thermal comfort. An intelligent control system must be able to predict the temperature of the building in order to manage the heating system. In this paper, we present a rule-based model that is able to predict the indoor temperature for different values of k (hours ahead in time). The model has been learned with FRULER, a genetic fuzzy system that generates accurate and simple knowledge bases. Our approach has been validated with real data from a residential college.

Methods-We focus on three organizational case studies that reflect varying forms of integrative health care practices in three U.S. cities. Results-Important patterns found within the three cases are (1) the critical role of visionary biomedical practitioners who bridge complementary and allopathic practices, (2) communicating integration internally through team interaction, and (3) communicating integration externally through spatial location, naming, and community outreach. Exposures to fine particulate matter PM2.5 and ozone O3 are associated with Alzheimer’s disease (... more Exposures to fine particulate matter PM2.5 and ozone O3 are associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) risk. Mexico City residents have lifetime exposures to PM2.5 and O3 above annual USEPA standards and their brains contain high redox, combustion, and friction-derived magnetite nanoparticles. AD pathological changes with subcortical pre-tangle stages in infancy and cortical tau pre-tangles, NFT Stages I-II, and amyloid phases 1–2 are identified by the 2nd decade. Given their AD continuum, a reliable identification of cognitive impairment is of utmost importance. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was administered to 517 urbanites, age 21.60 ± 5.88 years, with 13.69 ± 1.28 formal education years, in Mexican PM2.5 polluted cities. MoCA score was 23.92 ± 2.82, and 24.7% and 30.3% scored ≤24 and ≤22, respectively (MCI ≤ 24, AD ≤ 22). Cognitive deficits progressively targeted Visuospatial, Executive, Language, and Memory domains, body mass index (BMI) impacting total scores negative...

The involvement therefore of a ‘dispersion host’, which eats the definitive host and spreads the oocysts through its faeces, is critical for the maintenance of certain Adelina spp. On the island of Gran Canaria, adeleid oocysts have been found in stool samples from four animals, three California kingsnakes (Lampropeltis californiae), and one feral cat. These animals were part of a larger coprological study of vertebrate parasites (117 snakes, 298 cats), where pseudoparasitic elements were also recorded. L. californiae and feral cats are i...

Research paper thumbnail of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Involving Multiple Cognitive Domains in Mexican Urbanites

Advances in Alzheimer’s Disease
