This study investigates the problems in pronouncing and understanding English words experienced b... more This study investigates the problems in pronouncing and understanding English words experienced by the learners whose first language is Tamil. In other terms to find the problematic sounds that cause challenges and to find out techniques that may help the Students With Tamil Background (SWTBs) to improve their intelligibility and thereby pronunciation as well. The subjects for the study were 42 students from Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli (SAC) who study English Phonetics as one of their major courses. They listen to the videos of the Natives and Indian speakers as well in the language laboratory as part of the Major Courses. The tool used for collecting the data was a structured Questionnaire. The data collected were analysed statistically. The findings of the study revealed that the Tamil students of English whose state is Tamil Nadu had problems with understanding certain English sounds. They find it easy to replace the RP sounds such as /ʒ/, /z/ and /ʃ / with /s/ that is commonly used in their L1. Based on the findings, the study concluded that factors such as interference of the First Language (L1), militate against the students' competence in terms of intelligibility and pronunciation. The conclusion of this study aims at recommending curricular and pedagogical approaches and modern methods for improving competence in terms of pronunciation. The Study also suggests the practical need of having some valuable Assessment Standard/Model against which the pronunciation performance of the learners (SWTBs) may be evaluated.

Comprehending the pronunciation of an unfamiliar word holds paramount importance for English as a... more Comprehending the pronunciation of an unfamiliar word holds paramount importance for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners.A non-native speaker has to consider the precise pronunciation of English words while developing Speaking Skills. This Pronunciation part is often overlooked while acquiring proficiency in English. With the introduction of new models and approaches, foreign language instruction has evolved over time. The advancement in technology has taken the domain of Language Learning to a level in which the physical barriers are extinct. With the advent of digital platforms, new and innovative ways to learn a language have taken their places to provide a more accessible, personalized and interactive learning atmosphere. This article aims at providing literatures that give insights on the increased use of digital sources in attaining pronunciation proficiency through sources such as digital dictionaries, language learning apps and online platforms excluding sources such as AI Chatbots, Virtual Classrooms, Gamification and Virtual Reality. These online tools have enabled learners to concentrate on distinct individual sounds, or phonemes, that form words in the English language. Through interactive features and engaging exercises, learners can explore and practice various English sounds, leading to more accurate pronunciation. While the advancements in technology are promising, it is crucial for researchers, educators, and language professionals to continue exploring and evaluating the effectiveness of digital resources. This study aims at conducting an extensive search of academic databases, journals, books, and other reputable sources to identify relevant literature related to language learning, pronunciation improvement, and the use of digital platforms in language education. The key findings and insights from the selected literature will be analysed and synthesised. The literature review will critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of the studies and provide a comprehensive and well-structured review of the literature, highlighting the implications and potential directions for further research in the field.

Globally, over 1.2 billion children were out of the classroom. As a result, the educational landscape has undergone a significant transformation, with the distinctive emergence of e-Learning, whereby teaching was undertaken remotely on digital platforms.Every industry has been impacted by technology, and education is no exception. The days of applying for admission and going to classes to earn a degree are long gone. Nowadays, anyone can learn anything online provided one has a hunger for knowledge and a functional internet connection. Web-based instruction has made it possible to offer classes worldwide through a single Internet connection.The domain of the online language learning environment has been enriched with educational tools and Learning Management Systems which are accessible to both students and teachers. Google has launched an e-learning tool named Google Classroom. Google Classroom is a blended learning platform with interesting features. But some learners find certain features unfamiliar as they belong to the first generation of users. In this regard, a survey has been conducted using Google Forms through WhatsApp and Gmail.

They thought that the mighty and affluent Ottoman Empire could influence their cultural domains to a great extent. Philip Massinger, a Jacobean Playwright, determined not to genuinely represent the practices of the Islamic Faith, wrote the Play 'The Renegado' to portray badly Islam and its followers.

It has also been established that no Method is superior or inferior to other Methods. It is not always appropriate to apply the same Method to all types of Learners who have Different Abilities, Objectives and Learning Needs. An ESL Classroom is where the Teachers have to deal with Students with varied interests. It is the moral responsibility of the Teacher to ensure that all his / her Students receive what they deserve inside the classroom. This study aims at discussing the pros and cons of using the Bilingual Method in an ESL Classroom with a special reference to its impact on pronunciation.
