The survey was filled by 38 start ups at an advanced stage of development.
The researchers considered three primary criteria: legal form and employment; export, financing and growth; and contact with science and academic centres. The results show that Polish start-ups are more likely to export goods and services then other businesses of the same size, have more patents and are more likely to cooperate with academic institutions, science centres, etc.
The results of this pilot study indicate that digital perfectly meets the criteria of belonging to high technology. Further research on a larger scale and with a more representative sample will verify hypotheses related to the difficulty of industry analysis based on GUS statistics, start-up’s contacts with academic centres, involvement of women in start-ups, and employment and growth.
