Particularly, it showed how the political elites have at different times subverted the essence of democratic governance in the country since independence and thus, tacitly encouraging political instability. Relevant data were obtained through secondary method and empirically discussed. The study revealed that the relative stability being enjoyed in the polity is lubricated through intensive patron-client arrangement. The paper concluded that sustainable democracy will continue to be a mirage in the country until political power is held and used in the interest of many. Good governance, transparency and accountability are suggested as necessary vitamins for democratic consolidation in the country.

Observations reveal that the youths are bad today, not only because of the negative societal influence but also because some homes have failed in their primary roles of inculcating socio-cultural values to the affected youths. This paper observes that moral regeneration of the Nigerian youths is not to be hinged solely and wholly on formal pedagogy. Traditional African people taught their young ones to be morally upright by devising effective and pragmatic ways of impacting certain ideals and virtues in them in order to mould them for leadership position of nation building in future. This discourse employs moral, social, cultural and theological springboards for the exposition through the use of secondary data. The paper recommended the reawakening of campai...

It highlights the importance of democracy as a process and development as an outcome whilst accesses the linkages that exist between them. While this paper argues that the universal features that define democracy are requisite for development anywhere, there are however some peculiar factors that stringently inhibit the manifestation of this relationship in Africa. These factors, in their internal and external forms, are epitomized by leadership failures and mismanagement across the continent, posing enormous threats to the development aspirations of the people. These failures account for the ignorant acceptance of the neo-imperialistic assumptions smuggled into the definition of democracy. It accounts for the inability to provide the basic needs of the people in spite of huge resources, bo...

This reform seeks to streamline, legalize and institutionalize public procurement practices in order to achieve the objectives of transparency, accountability, probity and anti-corruption. Using the Polytechnic Ibadan as a case-study, the paper X-ray some of the basic features and expectations of public procurement law regime. It observes that procurement law regime seeks to achieve the purpose of good governance through institutionalization of standard procurement practices. The data collection tool used was structured closed and open –ended questionnaires for the respondents who had been involved in the procurement process including survey of related literature on public procurement. In the course of testing the hypotheses, regression analysis was used to test the impact of public procurement in the execution of capital projects. The result of the findings reveals that Public Procu...

The study adopted a cross-sectional survey using an anonymous online questionnaire to collect data from respondents. A snowball sampling technique was employed to recruit 206 participants (136 males and 70 females) with a mean age of 42.11 (SD of 4.12) recruited from Ibadan metropolis. Data were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression analysis and t-test for independent sample. Result showed that boredom proneness and self-efficacy jointly predicted perceived stress (R2=0.21, F(2, 203) = 30.54, p .05]. Based on these findings, the study concluded that boredom proneness and self-efficacy are determinants of perceived stress among civil servants during COVID-19 lockdown. We therefore recommended that behavioural scientists should design intervention programme tailored toward reducing boredom ...

One of the biggest contributors from the business community of any nation, to the nation’s economic development, is the small and medium sized enterprise (SME) sector. Studies have shown that SMEs and indeed, large and multi-national organizations can improve their productive capacity by using the benefits of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT). This paper explores how the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the developing economies such as Nigeria can achieve their own growth through the adoption of information communication technology. This study relies on secondary data from various sources to examine the availability, accessibility and affordability to relevant ICT facilities and challenges facing SMEs in the use of information technology. The study recommends that agencies that regulate SMEs should formu...

It is against this background that this paper examines the roles of Nigerian Prison Service as an integral part of the security configuration of the country and the challenges facing the outfit towards stemming the tide of security problems facing the country. It further analyzes the symbiotic relationship between the prison system of a nation and its security challenges. Related data were obtained through secondary source and were descriptively analysed. The study concluded that Nigerian Prison is not well equipped to fulfil its mandate. Consequently, the paper recommends that training in modern day techniques of prison administration and effective funding are panacea for improved performance of Nigerian prison service. Keywords: Prison service, Security challenges, Democratic Nigeria, Nation-state.

The technique was introduced to help law enforcement agencies solve serious crimes such as serial rape or murder and to a lesser extent arson and property crime. At the heart of profiling lies the belief that by combining psychological principles with crime scene analysis, it is possible to identify the likely characteristics of a perpetrator. However, criminal profiling in Nigeria has not nearly reached the level of recognition, functionality, or institutionalization that it has attained in other jurisdictions. This study aims to examine the feasibility and the practicality of offender profiling in a criminal investigation of violent crimes with a particular focus on the Nigerian criminal justice system. It will also give an expository critique of the loopholes and impediments in the Nigerian criminal justice s...

It is a common form of strain that is usually experienced by employees, in the course of performing their official duties and responsibilities. In the contemporary world of work, including the Nigerian work environment, work-stress is identified as a ‘corporate epidemic’. Its symptoms are mostly observed physically, psychologically and socially in the lives of affected employees, while the negative effect of occupational stress is specifically, measured on employee performance and organizational effectiveness. It is for the above-described nature and effect of work-stress that this study examined the role of psychological capital in effective management of work-stress among the staff of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It adopted the explanatory survey research design, purposive and convenience sampling techniques in sampling a total number of 202 (male = 116, 57.4% and female = 86, 42.6%) academic and administrative staff of f...

Abstract: Globalization is the process of international integration that results from the interexchange of world views having its effects on virtually all aspects of human life including governance and economy. This paper examines the issue of globalization and governance in Nigeria and explicates how the issue of governance is impacting on poverty. Specifically Nigerian government cannot provide its citizenry with the common good of government; governance is not only at its lowest ebb in Nigeria, and this has resulted into promotion of mediocrity, ethnicity, god fatherism, violence and ultimately poverty. Relevant data were obtained through secondary method and empirically discussed. The study observes that because politicians were rigged into power by their god fathers and external bourgeoisies, those whom they have to pay back with the state resources hence the provisions of common goods for populace is always abandoned and thus results into negligence of the responsibility of governance. The paper concludes that globalization can help to solve or worsen the effects of poor governance on poverty in Nigerian provided global collective action complements and reinforces country-based efforts on poverty reduction
