Research paper thumbnail of Application of intervention mapping in cybersecurity education design

Frontiers in Education

Education in Cybersecurity is considered one of the key challenges facing the modern digitized wo... more Education in Cybersecurity is considered one of the key challenges facing the modern digitized world. Several frameworks, e.g., developed by NIST or ENISA, have defined requirements for cybersecurity education but do not give recommendations for their development. Developing appropriate education offerings need to incorporate theory-based approaches that are evidence supported. Adopting the Intervention Mapping paradigm, we propose an educational framework incorporating validated theoretical and evidence-based approaches to cybersecurity education encompassing stakeholders' input, identified competency needs, and how to implement and evaluate learning outcomes. This paper presents a case study of how Intervention Mapping can be used to help design cybersecurity education, discuss challenges in educational and professional aspects of cybersecurity, and present an applied educational approach based on Intervention Mapping and its evaluation.

Users want to have easy to remember passwords, but these are vulnerable to various kinds of attacks and are predictable. To address these problems, graphical passwords that involve selection of images and drawing lines have been proposed. The encoded images support creation of secure passwords and facilitate their memorability. Thus, they are considered as an alternative to strengthen password security while preserving usability because secure textual passwords become more complicated to use. The research addresses the issue of improving the user experiences during graphical authentication. This paper examines cued recallbased, pure recall-based and recognition-based approaches. The proposed scheme is based on recognition-based scheme that is selected as the least vulnerable to various attacks. The solution is currently under development, two qualitative usability testing sessions are performed and the participants' feedback is discussed.

This problem impels the interface designers to search for the methods to display such data in a usable way. Combining human computer interaction styles with information visualization techniques provides some solutions. Displaying the relevant data in appropriate level of abstraction can be a good interface design solution. The most important data is focused when the others are accessible but presented in a higher level of abstraction. Presenting the same data in a different manner when multiple views are used also can give good results. The combination of techniques and styles benefits the analyst' decision-making process.

As samples, we survey the structured diagrams, including the logical pictures, from JURIX papers. We see the need for picture-text cooperation in the joint work of engineers and jurists. A motive is that engineers think structurally, whereas jurists think textually. However, we see no uniform framework for picture-text cooperation in legal visualizations. Therefore, this is a subject for discussion. We hold that a unified visual notation, strict compositional rules and strict visual semantics in law are not easy to achieve. Here, semi-formal representations are stronger, because representing legal meaning is a problem. However, more formal visual notations could contribute toward the creation of logical pictures.

The purpose of the project is to create a three-dimensional online virtual world - in the form of a safe, democratic and legally ruled collaboration platform. 3D virtual worlds are a relatively new expression of online communication and collaboration tools. The most essential aspect - usability - still is in tentative phase. Consequently, conventional usability heuristics are not suitable for 3D virtual worlds. The paper identifies major differences between 3D virtual worlds and other online collaboration and communication tools. Specific user needs are discussed considering the users" real experience, mistakes and problems.

The work is being done within the FP7 VirtualLife project. The purpose of the project is to create a safe, democratic and legally ruled collaboration environment. The novelty of the platform is mainly in the issues of security and trust and in the implementation of an in-world legal framework, which is real world compliant. The rule of law principle is extended to a virtual world. Such an extension advances the level of intelligence of an artifact. The approach accords with a trend in legal informatics “From norms in law to rules in artifact”. In the paper the authors reflect on user needs and learning support in a university virtual campus, a potential scenario. Virtual worlds’ opportunities in enhancing learning are discussed. A new paradigm of the content is characterized as interaction versus information.

The aim of the project is to develop new lidar (laser radar, LIght Detection And Ranging) equipment. Radar and lidar data fusion is a requirement. One work package was devoted to decision support model design and development. The proof of the concept decision support system (DSS) being developed adopts lidar capabilities, facilitates the tasks of the ATC controller in the aerodrome traffic zone (ATZ) and contributes to aircraft surveillance. The DSS is being designed as a framework for the operational implementation of norms. Factors such as separation between aircraft, track, glide path, altitude, etc. are subject to regulation in air traffic control (ATC). Legal sources are different: the rules of the air, airport procedure charts, etc. The scientific contribution is viewed from the standpoint of computational modelling. The risk model considered is a discrete representation of a (linear) deviation from the normative value. The traffic light visualization is used: the red light signifies intolerable, the yellow – tolerable, and the green – acceptable risk. The proposed method is illustrated on the Naples Capodichino airport sample day data.

It is about diagrammatical views which facilitate comprehension of the meaning of legal contents. Complexity reduction is a motive. An issue is the complexity of the entire legal system and the layman's limited ability to understand legal institutions and the millions of documents. A sequence of views in SLV can be compared with a narrative. SLV differs from information visualization and knowledge visualization. SLV relates to a scenario-centered graphical narrative rather than information display or user interfaces. SLV is about the generation (synthesis) of diagrams. The sequence of images depends on the user's goals. Different pathways through the informational space are concerned. With respect to an object's change or non-change, two variations of SLV are identified: dynamic SLV and static SLV. The latter is divided into two: incremental SLV and alternate focuses SLV.
